Less than 3 minutes in and they have already mentioned a Firefly's and Buffy's reference.

I love it.

Great self-referencing Firefly laugh for fans

Warning: Spoilers
Right from the start you know this is a fun episode as Castle bursts through the door wearing his Halloween costume: A space cowboy outfit that his daughter chides him for wearing as A) there are no cows in space; B) He wore the same outfit five years ago; and C) It's time for him to move on. Great self-referencing Firefly laugh for fans. And then there is the mystery: who put a stake through the body of a wannabe vampire fan; A fan who altered his teeth into fangs. And the clues may be in the pages of a comic book the victim was working on. The suspect they first pick up, Morlock (Robert Arbogast) suffers from a type of porphyria also know as Vampire Disease. To complicate matters a second victim is found, this one dressed as a werewolf. And as the crew is attempting to solve the murders, they are also preparing for one of Castle's legendary Halloween parties. A good mystery to solve with a great tongue-in-cheek subplots.

Happy Halloween

This is an interesting Halloween episode, exploring both real-life and fantasy aspects of the vampire phenomenon, including cosplay folks who think they're the real thing. It makes a good premise for a murder mystery, with nice clues provided in the storytelling.

A stronger guest cast, with perhaps cameos from either the comic book or movie field, would have helped make the segment even more interesting.

I see from previous posts here that fans react as Nathan Fillion devotees -okay, but his in-jokes are hardly the key to the success of "Castle" -try good writing and a solid cast around Mr. Castle.
