Tasmania-set crime-drama series “Bay of Fires” is to be reignited for a second season.
The show sees a single mother, portrayed by Marta Dusseldorp, forced into a witness protection program that relocates her and her family to a remote location in Tasmania. There they are surrounded by a community of suspicious and criminally-minded individuals.
The second season gives her a glimmer of hope. After months in which time nobody has tried to kill her, the woman finds herself in a position of influence. But she needs to juggle a host of new problems, some of which are of her own making.
The writing team is headed by Andrew Knight and Max Dann, Romina Accurso, Josephine Dee Barrett and Hannah Samuel (“The Pm’s Daughter”).

Guy Pearce has recently wrapped production on “Inside,” an Australian crime thriller and coming of age drama film. The picture is the debut feature of Charles Williams, whose short film “All These Creatures” won the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
The story sees after a young man transferred from juvenile to adult prison, where he is taken under the wing of both Australia’s most despised criminal, and a soon-to-be-a-paroled inmate. A paternal triangle grows between them, suggesting that even the worst of men may have a little bit of good inside them — that will be their eventual undoing.
The cast is headed by Pearce, Cosmo Jarvis and newcomer Vincent Miller. Supporting actors include Toby Wallace, Tara Morice, Chloé Hayden (“Heartbreak High”) and Michael Logo (“Colin From Accounts”).

“’The Deb’ is my type of movie — full of humour, full of heart, and uniquely Australian but with universal themes. It came out of my scholarship program at the non-profit Australian Theatre for Young People, a program that I’m very proud of and has had incredible success. If there was ever a movie I was going to direct, it would be this one,” said the actress. “This project is just so special and original.

Studiocanal will launch rights sales at Cannes on “Kangaroo,” the first Australia-New Zealand production from the local arm of the French film and TV group Canal Plus. The film is inspired by the real-life story of The Kangaroo Sanctuary founder Chris ‘Brolga’ Barns, who has been saving and raising baby kangaroos in Central Australia since 2005.
The narrative is shaped as a heart-warming family comedy about a down-on-his-luck pro surfer who becomes stranded in an Outback town after a car accident. There, he teams up with 11-year-old Indigenous girl. The pair form an unlikely friendship working together to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned baby kangaroos (joeys). The endeavor proves to be life-changing for both.

When screenwriter Roger Monk was offered a gig on the Aquarius Films/Sbs crime caper The Unusual Suspects, he seized the opportunity to channel his favourite film, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
Tonally he saw similarities with Pedro Almodóvar’s Oscar-winning 1988 black comedy-drama about a woman who embarks on a strange journey to try to discover why lover suddenly left her without any explanation.
Set in Sydney’s affluent Eastern suburbs, The Unusual Suspects revolves around the theft of a $10 million necklace from self-made Filipino businesswoman Roxanne Waters’ home during her twins’ birthday party,
The suspects include including socialite Sara Beasley, whose life is crumbling fast, and her long-suffering nanny, Evie De La Rosa, a godmother of sorts for other Filipino domestic workers.
“The show is about female frenemies, disparate characters who come together through circumstance and become friends,” Monk tell If.

The long journey to adapt Australian author Melina Marchetta’s 2006 young adult novel On the Jellicoe Road into a TV series looks like paying off.
Werner Film Productions’ Joanna Werner has teamed up with Germany’s Zdf Enterprises and Wild Sheep Content, the fledgling production outfit formed by Erik Barmack, Netflix’s former head of international originals, on the eight-part series.
Marchetta will write the pilot and is working on development with Samantha Strauss, Sarah Walker and Angela Betzien.
The mystery romance by the Looking for Alibrandi author follows 17-year-old Taylor Markham, who was abandoned by her mother at a roadside deli on the outskirts of Jellicoe when she was 11.
After her mentor and guardian Hannah vanishes she meets a mysterious hermit who provides a clue to her identity. This happens amid a territory war between the boarders at her school, kids from the local town and a group of cadets.

This week’s question: What’s your favorite dance sequence on TV ever?
Alan Sepinwall (@sepinwall), Rolling Stone
Look, there are surely more emotionally moving options than the one I’ve chosen. Mac’s interpretive dance about his sexuality from the last “It’s Always Sunny” finale was among the most remarkable and unexpected moments of recent TV. The year before, “Better Things” wonderfully concluded its season with Sam, her mom, and two of her daughters recreating the video from Christine and the Queens’ “Tilted” as a birthday present for Max. Anyone who votes for Sasha’s “Istanbul/Constantinople” dance from “Bunheads” here is absolutely right to do so — a great piece of choreography that was also revelatory about a character designed to be tough to love. Lille, France — Lingo Pictures Productions and Endemol Shine’s new Australian limited series “Lambs of God,” based on the Australian novel of the same name by Marele Day, world premieres on Wednesday, March 27 in the main International Competition at this year’s Series Mania festival.
The series follows three devout nuns, the last sisters of the Order of St. Agnes, who live in extreme isolation on an island off the coast of Ireland. They spend their days practicing ancient rituals, tending their sheep, knitting and telling their own versions of classic fairy tales in a routine that seems unchanged by the centuries of slow collapse affecting the monastery around them.
Their world is thrown of balance when an attractive young priest from the mainland stumbles through the brambles into their home, and the sisters are caught up in a conflict between passion and their beliefs.

“Light as a Feather” is Hulu’s teen horror adventure with a mystery as engrossing as it is grotesque, and just creepy enough to scratch that Halloween itch without keeping you up at night. When popular high-school-clique leader Olivia (Peyton List) invites new girl Violet (Haley Ramm) to hang out with them at the cemetery on Halloween, Violet insists they play the party game Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board. Before attempting to lift or “levitate” each girl, she is told an elaborate story about how she’ll die. When one girl ends up perishing exactly as predicted, the rest are left scrambling to figure out who or what they’re up against before they also end up dead.

The Crown’s Harriet Walter and Mr Selfridge’s Frances O’Connor are set to star in The End, a family drama for Sky and Australia’s Foxtel. It is produced by The King’s Speech and Top of the Lake indie See-Saw.
The show, which will air in 2019, is about three generations of a family with separate but intersecting obsessions – trying to figure out how to die with dignity, live with none and make it count.
O’Connor plays Dr Kate Brennan, an Australian-based specialist in palliative care. Euthanasia is a hot-button topic in Kate’s field of work and she is passionate in her opposition. On the other side of the world, Kate’s mother Edie Henley, played by Walter, feels just as strongly about her right to die. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales..
The fifth edition of the Disney, Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean franchise easily topped the Aussie box office last weekend although the debut was well below the previous installment.
Directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and shot in Queensland after an injection of $21.6 million in funding from the federal government plus state government incentives, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales captured $5.9 million on 292 locations, according to ComScore.
That.s 41 per cent below the $9.9 million debut of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2011. The latter finished up earning $27.2 million, which may be out of reach of the new film.
Pirates 5 scored an estimated $US77 million over the four-day Memorial Day holiday in the Us and $208 million internationally for a global total of $285 million, so the studio may be hard-pressed to recoup the reported $230 million budget.

Now that we know the next mainline movie starring our favorite mutants is officially titled X-Men: Dark Phoenix and will grace cinemas next year, it comes as no surprise that Fox has already gotten the ball rolling when it comes to casting.
While it’s fully expected that some familiar actors will be returning, each entry in the franchise has introduced a healthy amount of newcomers, and the latest information to come down the grapevine supports that trend continuing. With that, young talent such as Alexa Swinton (Billions), Rarmian Newtown (The Family, Dance Academy) and Paul Mescal have each auditioned for the roles of Marie, Shane and Sam, respectively.
Now, those roles seemingly sound innocuous and could each be code names, but many are speculating that Marie is, in fact, Rogue given that’s her real first name. Personally, I think this isn’t far-fetched in the slightest, and I’ll tell you why.

Ebonnie Masini and Rian McLean in 'Round the Twist' (1989), Australian Children's Television Foundation
Australian children.s TV may have recently picked up an Emmy Kids award for the Abcme animation Doodles, but otherwise kids. TV in this country is in a dire state.
Free-to-air TV networks have to commission certain amounts of children.s programs each year. But in recent years there.s been a dismaying lack of new live action shows, or recognisably Australian content. Instead, local children.s TV has become dominated by animation with little sense of place.
This is a shame, because Australia.s most fondly remembered children.s TV shows are live action productions such as Mortified, Playschool, Blue Water High, and Round the Twist. When asked in a 2015 survey to name their favourite childhood TV characters, most people chose Round the Twist siblings Linda and Bronson, followed by Mortified.s Taylor Fry.

Xenia Goodwin shooting at the Opera House.
Xenia Goodwin made her acting debut in ABC series.Dance Academy, which ran from 2010-2013. Three years after the show wrapped, Goodwin returned to the role of Tara Webster for a Dance Academy feature shot in Sydney and New York in the middle of last year. She talks to If about reuniting with old friends and commiting to a career as an actor.

How old were you when you started the show?
I was just turning 15. I was quite young, and determined to be a ballet dancer at the time. I.d left school and I was doing that vocationally.
