S5 a bust so far
itisiabanana19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I used to LOVE this show. This season has been pretty underwhelming so far.

This episode was all over the place with the dramatics.

Hen being unprofessional with Eddie.

Buck being unprofessional with Ravi.

Ravi one minute behaving as if this was his first day, but in the next scene, is calm and seasoned.

Buck jumps from being calm and understanding about things with Chimney & Maddie after talking with Eddie in the previous episode to being so worked up he thinks he has to leave his 118 fam?

Athena abusing her traumatized son (this Jeffrey storyline needs to END yesterday)?

And all the time spent on horrible Claudette? Dramatic and unnecessary waste of screentime.

Taylor's characterization is all over the place and her scenes with Buck don't feel organic.

Eddie's stories have been completely dropped.

I don't know what they think they're doing, but it's not working. I hope they get their act together.

I Love Ravi
donttrustthebees19 October 2021
Ravi has come a long way from being in just a few seconds of jinx and a little bit in treasure hunt, to having an episode that partly centers around him.

I love him stating that he likes being himself, it's great to see a character in this show that isn't negative towards who they are but rather embraces every aspect of it.

I hope to see more from him in the future and that he becomes apart of the main characters in the upcoming second half of season 5. :)

This episode felt so off
agentsofsword1 November 2021
It was so weirdly paced and some of the characters didn't feel like their usual selves. You'd think that Buck going through a hard time that Hen or Eddie would be on his side talking to him the friendships just felt disconnected.

The Grants storyline with May and Harry stood out more to me and Buck diner scene cringed me the hell out. Hope the show gets back on its feet.

Boring episode with unnecessary drama
stillnotyourbusiness19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The arc with Harry hitting someone and then his mother hitting him was horrible. If they're trying to make us dislike Athena they'll achieving it.

Buck's scene about wanting to leave the 118 was overly dramatic and it looked out of a telenovela.

They used (again) Doug's last name to refer to Maddie and it's just unnecessary.

Chimney being mad at Buck for respecting his sister's wishes made no sense.

And then if you add three awkward scenes with the reporter then you top it all. I'm still shocked that Buck was worried because his sister was mia, his brother in law hates him and he's having a hard time with how things changed in the firefam and he once again gets hit with the 'You're making this about yourself'.

The only interesting thing about this was May standing up for herself, I love her. Hen adjusting to Chim's absence without being extremely harsh, Eddie taking it all in stride and Bobby being there for everyone and being the calm vibe everyone needs.

Poorly written overall and they definitely missed a lot of points.

Madney come back right now
brigette-7635721 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A nice filler episode! I enjoyed the eddie/hen and buck/ravi dynamics this ep, they were quite funny. I do miss Madney though and want them back asap. They show definitely doesn't feel the same without them :(.

As much as Taylor Kelly is beautiful, she really has to go. I definitely don't think she's the right person for Buck and their chemistry feels quite forced.

Also it's nice to see May finally standing up for herself! I'm really enjoying her storyline this season and am excited to see where it goes.

Sick of Jeffrey though. It's important for us to see how Harry is going to deal with his trauma but at the same time I wish we never have to hear about Jeffrey again. And Athena better get some help. Not impressed with her actions this ep at all.

thoughts feelings emotions and 9 stars only for ravi
apietrad22 October 2021
9 stars solely for ravi! I absolutely loved seeing him as an active part of the team and I can't wait to see more of this character. Representation matters and I'm definitely hoping we get a ravi and albert team up in the future somehow!!

Also, maddie and chimney please come home!!! It just isn't the same without them.

Andddd just have a few more thoughts on a couple relationships. I'm hoping to see the aftermath of eddie's breakup with ana soon. It seems off that they still haven't mentioned any of it, especially chris's reaction. And while buck and taylor were very sweet in this episode I still don't quite get the appeal..? I don't know, considering the show's hiatus time jump it means they've already been together for over 4 months but they just don't feel like they're supposed to be a main couple. Mostly because they never seemed like a right fit and definitely not what the show has been showing over and over all these years of what buck wants in a relationship- and it makes me wonder if this is intentional. So I guess this whole thing opened my eyes to the nature of eddie's breakup with ana, and the ready-made family of it all... kinda sounds familiar, and it's interesting how he never seems to panic about the other one in question as far as permanently putting it in his will. So if they do go in the direction it looks like they're going, I have to say this show will be one for the history books.

weakest episode of the season so far
cibelekzm19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Idk if this is because fo the pandemic, or if it's because they had to rush writing over Albert's actor recast on another show + JLH maternity leave, but they better start fixing, because this season so far is a mess. But this episode is topping the cake.

1- There are plenty characters who are ooc in this episode:

Taylor I don't think I need talk much about this considering how incoherent it was for a character with so few scenes act completely different between said scenes.

Michael: I'm sorry, but Michael ambushing Athena to therapy felt so off character of him to do (very bad move btw, you never do that). I mean they usually sit and talk, so I agree with Bobby here, I have no idea what he was thinking when he did it.

Buck: I feel mixed feeling about this one here, because he has a history of feeling expendable so i'm kinda okay with this part about him feeling like leaving the 118 would solve the problem (for now), but his attitude with Ravi? Training probie so he can replace him??? Like whaat? From where did this come from? Like I understand he is not much himself this ep, but this part made me quite confused.

N/A : I'm not mentioning Athena or Harry on this one, because I never expected them to act like their usual after the kidnapping, they're traumatized and need help, ooc behavior coming from them is understandable and expose their need for proper help.

2 - The emergency-calls build up felt so damn long, it didn't use to be that way, they felt like eternity and took a lot of screen time this episode. It bothered me a lot.

3 - I''m Quoting Bobby here: "Place hasn't been the same without you Chim. You're the heart of this firehouse". Man he wasn't lying, I believe Chim's absence made this episode feel quite worse, because his absence makes all the members tense.

4 - Claudette: The fact they chose to compensate Maddie's leave, by bringing a character who is arrogant and immensely dislike-able is making huge impact on how I feel about every episode having to deal with her presence. Plus they still forcing this absurd "She is too damn good" perspective, when she is literally doing the same work May and Maddie were doing latest season. It's screaming "forced" to me. They should have just kept Josh, May and Sue, it would have been great.

Now for the few things i liked:

1 - Ravi, man he was the most fresh thing of this episode, he is chaotic and eccentric, and I love it, he looks like that piece will not fit, but when put in the right place it makes the entire thing better??? Like in the "Treasure Hunt" episode when he is just like "I'm not with them". The fact he find the team weird made my day LMAO. I love they brought him back, I definitely want to see more of him. If Buck and others were acting like their usual, this would have been way better.

2 - This is probably unpopular but I'm enjoying the Harry and Athena storyline. Ofc i'm not saying it's perfect, but I would be so upset if they just wrapped up like the usually do. This was a problem people always complained about the show: "how the development occurs out of screen most of the time" so I'm glad they're actually showing it this time. I feel like the development always happening off screen is definitely playing a role on how people thinking this Harry and Athena storyline is taking too long, but I think it's a needed storyline (specially after Jeffrey), as I mentioned before, I wouldn't expect them to be okay after the kidnapping for a while. Also I like how this opens space for Bobby to be the support Athena very much needs (out of therapy ofc), something that was an issue on their relationship last season. The biggest problem to me is that they writers are trying to focus on this in every episode while sharing screen-time with other several plots, and this make us feel like there is too much going on, the characters and viewers need a breath.

3 - May and Harry duo: I need more of this sibling dynamic, it's really fresh. Also I like a lot of Bobby and Harry interactions this episode too, i need more of it as well.

4 - May stepping up for herself was quite satisfactory.

ravi and buck my new favorite duo
lucaaaass20 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Here just to say how good it was to see Ravi on my screen.

The episode was good! It was nice to hear Maddie's voice at the end. I hope she's coming back very soon cause I miss her face and I miss Chim and I miss Madney. Almost had an heart attack when Buck said he wanted to transfer but the team immediately reassured him that the 118 is his place and it will be forever. Then he went home to Taylor, where she was waiting for him. This is all I ever wanted for him. Also, this has nothing to do with this ep but where's Karen? I miss her so much. It feels like it's been years since we last saw her.

Anyway, can't wait for the next episode.

Loved this ep. LOVED TAYLOR KELLY EVEN MORE
alexissssss19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really really liked this ep.

Every scene with Taylor in it was so perfect. I love how she's there for Buck, they are perfect for each other but I can't really wait for some angst between them, I'm sure it's gonna happen like around half of season 5b.

Also MEGAN WEST you absolute queen. She was so beautiful, the whole ep. I can't wait to watch the next one, too bad we had to wait 2 weeks.

Ravi my best boy. Buck I want to hug him so bad!

Maddie's call at the end!!!

It was a great episode! Keep it this way!

Wasn't my favorite
kmt03010-476-25686422 October 2021
The pacing of this episode was really weird. Especially in context with the previous episodes. Some things that happened, like Hen and Eddie working great in the previous episode and then not working well together at all the next is just odd. Having Maddie's voicemail say Kendall was so inappropriate. There is no way that she would go by her abusers name. I don't understand this shows obsession with keeping her a Kendall instead of Buckley as she has referred to herself in the past. Please stop doing that.

I did really like Ravi in this episode. I think he's a great character. And there were parts of the episode that I enjoyed but several parts that I didn't. This was not a well written episode in my opinion.

Filler episode but ..
bingoplayer-5262721 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Clearly a filler episode but it's good to see Ravi and May's character development. It's nice to see Buck mentoring Ravi. Buck wanted Ravi to be worthy of his job. Ravi needs to learn in the toughest way cause he was out of focus but later on he earned Buck's approval. May stood up for herself against Claudette who was rude without reason.

This is my first time to write a review and signed on because I couldn't stand most of the reviews here saying Eddie Diaz carried the episode. Are you guys serious right now? When did Eddie Diaz stood out? He is by far the weakest actor among the major characters. The poor guy can't act and that's a fact. He's a HAM ACTOR that only relies on his face. Even in his own Begins episode, Buck's reaction clawing the mud stole the thunder from him. It's okay to idolize your favorite actor but claiming he carried the episode and for some the show, you are delusional! I'm not hating on the actor. I am clearly stating facts.

And the hate on Taylor Kelly is unnecessary. I don't understand the hate. Buck likes Taylor. Taylor likes Buck so what's your problem? No relationships are perfect but they're doing better. These Ryan and Buddie fans are the worst fans ever hating and claiming for unnecessary things.

I also read a review about being sick of Athena and Harry's storyline, first of all, Angela is the star of the show. Her character has done so many things and it's time to focus her character mothering her kid who went through a trauma just like her.

This is not the best episode but it's not the worst. The episode won't claimed the top spot on the demo ratings game if it's the worst. Don't believe anything these Ryan and Buddie fans says on their reviews.

Too Much Going On
CopyNinjaK19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My main complaint with this season is that there is simply too much going on. We don't get any solid resolutions to the arcs our characters have been going through and it makes the show feel off. I don't mind the pacing feeling different because I feel like that is on purpose-the mains are all going through a lot and the pacing helps put the audience in a similar headspace, feeling off-kilter. But the decision to sacrifice screen time that should be dedicated to showing the audience resolutions or important context information is hurting this season. It's shown really well in this episode why that's not working.

Buck tells us that he feels like everyone is acting off and that Chimney told everyone goodbye except him, but we were never shown that. The implications isn't as important as showing us. Especially when those off-screen moments are the cause of Buck's mini arc in this episode cumulating in his plan to transfer from the 118. Without showing us why he feels like he has to leave, that decision feels like it came out of nowhere. The storylines should have been staggered more and spread out if it's going to cause an overload of information that ends up having to cut out important for context scenes. The audience isn't privy to the whole season and having to wait long periods in between episodes means we need more context.

solid

Warning: Spoilers
I liked this episode the most it started out with buck & taylor and her telling him what he needed to hear bc sometimes it isn't all about you and he was kind of projecting his feelings onto them. The scene where they reassure him is nice and an adult conversation. Claudette makes me so mad I want her to leave May alone but my girl is a queen and handled it immediately tho Claudette is still being a jerk to her. Buck being mean to ravi was sad but some of what he said is true. I like ravi not much to say. Hen being mean-ish to eddie was great but kinda unprofessional. Athena and Harry... at first I didn't mind he got slapped sometimes u need a slap when u say something terrible and i didn't know what he was gonna say but that she's a bad mother doesn't deserve that bc he had some truth to what he was saying imo. I'm glad Michael is trying to get he into therapy tho I was getting kind of concerned abt her. The scene didn't have that much eddie which i like (-1 star for no Christopher tho) and most of the rescue scenes were realistic which is nice unlike a bus going through a nine story window. Ending with Taylor making Buck dinner bc she knew he was having a tough time was so cute as well.

BUCKRAVI >>>>>>>>> BUDDIE
rossanacuore21 October 2021
YOUUUUU GUYSSSSS

The buzz I got just by watching them in this episode is insane. Definitely, my boy Ravi has a crush on Buck, the way he was checking him out In that last scene was .... ughhhh. They cute, cute, cute.

It's time for the show to give us bisexual representation. Buck, Ravi and Taylor are right there, no one looks at them and thinks "straight"

The episode was good, bucktaylor remains hot and cute as usual.

I miss Madney and Karen, though.

Confusing episode
arq-1022022 October 2021
Not a fan of this episode, felt like i missed something between episode 4 and 5. Don't care about any stories that go on at the dispatch center. Harry's arc needs to wrap up quick don't care about it anymore. Every side character does not need a story arc, and certain characters just need to leave.

Think WRITERS need to watch the show before writing a episode.

I did like the way to show was filmed, just not the writing.

I have high hopes for the rest of the season, just not sure if i will get it.

One of the Worst So Far
AnimatedCritic22 October 2021
I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of this episode. My main issue with this episode is how Buck acted so out of character for him. He was a kind and responsible person, but then acted like a control freak to Ravi, who has potential, but doesn't really hook me. I still think that May's conflict is extremely petty, and just a very weak side story. One thing I did like was the conflict between Athena's family, with Harry's trauma, and Jeffery still haunting the entire family. I feel like that was well done, and the emergencies were also pretty good as well. One big miss opportunity in these past two episodes is Eddie not wanting to start a family. It could've been really good conflict, but then we got May's plotline.

Overall, it was a mediocre episode that I would call one of the worst of the show.

Eddie Diaz could save every bad episode.
writerinthedark19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Between Taylor telling Buck not everything is about him and then changing her mind and telling everything it is, in fact, about him and all the unnecessary drama they seem to be dragging along all this season im just confused. The highlight of the episode was Ravi. Getting to know more about him was so cool and I really hope we get a lot more of him. Eddie Diaz you are always the highlight of every episode, i hope they give you more screentime. Anyways. It was a very meh episode.

This episode felt off in every way possible... all characters were acting weird, doing things they would never do. Taylor needs to go, she doesn't bring anything good to this show, her relationship with Buck is getting even more toxic, she doesn't know him at all. It's time for the writers to understand this is a first responders show, her reporting the news brings 0 to the show. The absence of Maddie (we only heard her voice) and Chim are not it, they need to come back asap!

as expected for a filler episode, but still confusing
YouGotTimeForASinner19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Felt like a rushed filler episode. Could tell some scenes were cut. Was good to see the team tackle multiple calls again, and enjoyed the welcoming of ravi and him finding his feet, but seems kinda backwards that buck, after all this time, would be questioning his position in the team. Especially after eddies pep talk in the previous episode? Was the point to show Taylor made him doubtful?

I can't tell what the writers are going for but man, the juxtaposition in how the last episode left off, with eddie reassuring buck that whilst he loves Maddie and chimney they need to find their own feet, to taylor trying to relate in a situation that's very different. Ordinarily her analogy has a good message, however falls flat considering for once, this is somewhat to do with buck considering it's his family. The right move was to encourage him to work it out it with his team? Considering misscommunication led him to insecurity and feeling like the solution was to leave?

And then what, that was reversed by taylor at the end, albeit very strangely. The leaps give the viewer whiplash and it's really hard to know where bucks head is at. I get it, if it's all leading to buck realising taylor is not the partner he wants and needs but if not, kinda confusing development wise considering bucks whole motivation for 5 seasons has been being in the 118.

And why is eddie acting weird? He seemed normal to the viewer throughout the episode so is the suggestion by taylor that it's not about buck right or wrong? It's not like we saw anything else to believe something is going on with him? But we SHOULD BE. So much has happened with him and hopefully they explore that properly. But still confusing how prior to Buck saying eddie is avoiding him, he seemed to be being supportive to buck and was there for him in a time of need? So out of character for buck to feel like he's then getting radio silence.

I did like the switching of partners creating some tension, and if done properly that has some major potential as a plotline, so hopefully they explore that properly too, because that's a big thing we haven't seen in several seasons and wouldn't be resolved in one shift. It can't be ignored how quickly the dynamics are screwed by one core member leaving. Eddie and Hen were fine last episode, a solid team, but incompatible this episode? Again....whiplash. I would like eddie or buck to acknowledge how they feel not being paired since they've been joined at the hip for years?

Having chimney change is voicemail to hurt buck is also just...super immature and lame. I liked that they'd developed over the years, they are brothers now...hopefully this grudge doesn't last for long because it's absurd when we know what chimney kept from buck for Maddie's sake. Sigh.

Really hard to predict where the season is going, and not in an exciting, anticipating way. More like, this may end up worse than the literal train crash we've seen on the show 😬

Worst episode of a mediocre season
Eminira19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Season 5 is already all over the place, pacing is weird, characterization is inconsistent, Storytelling is not good. But THIS episode just made me lose interest. Seriously who wrote this?? Are you trying to overhaul Taylor's character at the last minute because she is way too OOC in this episode. Also can't you get someone who can act? Megan's acting is always awkward or robotic, sometimes not genuine, can't tell what emotions she is trying to portrait most of the time. AND she brings nothing to the show, zero chemistry with Buck.

One star is for Ravi, he's the only highlight for me. Another star is for Eddie, even with the little screen time he's given, he carried the episode as always. Hope chimney and Maddie is coming back soon, or this show is going downhill fast.
