Idk if this is because fo the pandemic, or if it's because they had to rush writing over Albert's actor recast on another show + JLH maternity leave, but they better start fixing, because this season so far is a mess. But this episode is topping the cake.
1- There are plenty characters who are ooc in this episode:
Taylor I don't think I need talk much about this considering how incoherent it was for a character with so few scenes act completely different between said scenes.
Michael: I'm sorry, but Michael ambushing Athena to therapy felt so off character of him to do (very bad move btw, you never do that). I mean they usually sit and talk, so I agree with Bobby here, I have no idea what he was thinking when he did it.
Buck: I feel mixed feeling about this one here, because he has a history of feeling expendable so i'm kinda okay with this part about him feeling like leaving the 118 would solve the problem (for now), but his attitude with Ravi? Training probie so he can replace him??? Like whaat? From where did this come from? Like I understand he is not much himself this ep, but this part made me quite confused.
N/A : I'm not mentioning Athena or Harry on this one, because I never expected them to act like their usual after the kidnapping, they're traumatized and need help, ooc behavior coming from them is understandable and expose their need for proper help.
2 - The emergency-calls build up felt so damn long, it didn't use to be that way, they felt like eternity and took a lot of screen time this episode. It bothered me a lot.
3 - I''m Quoting Bobby here: "Place hasn't been the same without you Chim. You're the heart of this firehouse". Man he wasn't lying, I believe Chim's absence made this episode feel quite worse, because his absence makes all the members tense.
4 - Claudette: The fact they chose to compensate Maddie's leave, by bringing a character who is arrogant and immensely dislike-able is making huge impact on how I feel about every episode having to deal with her presence. Plus they still forcing this absurd "She is too damn good" perspective, when she is literally doing the same work May and Maddie were doing latest season. It's screaming "forced" to me. They should have just kept Josh, May and Sue, it would have been great.
Now for the few things i liked:
1 - Ravi, man he was the most fresh thing of this episode, he is chaotic and eccentric, and I love it, he looks like that piece will not fit, but when put in the right place it makes the entire thing better??? Like in the "Treasure Hunt" episode when he is just like "I'm not with them". The fact he find the team weird made my day LMAO. I love they brought him back, I definitely want to see more of him. If Buck and others were acting like their usual, this would have been way better.
2 - This is probably unpopular but I'm enjoying the Harry and Athena storyline. Ofc i'm not saying it's perfect, but I would be so upset if they just wrapped up like the usually do. This was a problem people always complained about the show: "how the development occurs out of screen most of the time" so I'm glad they're actually showing it this time. I feel like the development always happening off screen is definitely playing a role on how people thinking this Harry and Athena storyline is taking too long, but I think it's a needed storyline (specially after Jeffrey), as I mentioned before, I wouldn't expect them to be okay after the kidnapping for a while. Also I like how this opens space for Bobby to be the support Athena very much needs (out of therapy ofc), something that was an issue on their relationship last season. The biggest problem to me is that they writers are trying to focus on this in every episode while sharing screen-time with other several plots, and this make us feel like there is too much going on, the characters and viewers need a breath.
3 - May and Harry duo: I need more of this sibling dynamic, it's really fresh. Also I like a lot of Bobby and Harry interactions this episode too, i need more of it as well.
4 - May stepping up for herself was quite satisfactory.
