Immortality Review
A_Different_Drummer11 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
... is possibly one of the greatest lines of dialog of all time.

Offered up in this episode of one of the greatest series of all time.

Easily (this penned in 2015) the best work JJ has done so far.

Manages to keep viewers interested in two dimensions at once.

Never saw that before.

The alternate Olive is actually more empathetic than the main character. That is daring. Kudos to the writers. And to Anna Torv for pulling it off.

In fact even Walternate actually seems a more capable person than the regular cast member. Astonishing.

Wondersful episode.

Beetles and Pregnancy
claudio_carvalho15 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In the parallel universe, the Fringe Division investigates a case where a man was eaten from inside out by an extinct beetle. Meanwhile Broyles is considered missing and Lincoln is the head of the division. Olivia welcomes her boyfriend Frank that has just returned from Texas and wants to propose her. When a second man is also eaten by the insects, the Fringe Division identifies the scientist Dr. Armand Silva that was researching the cure for avian flu using this insect. Lincoln and Olivia goes to his address and split. Lincoln is locked in a refrigerating chamber while Olivia is brought to his laboratory, where she drinks water. Dr. Silva explains that only human beings are capable to host the beetle and a new cycle has just began. Olivia concludes that she has been infected by the insect and despairs.

"Immortality" is another important episode of "Fringe", this time in the parallel universe. Olivia, Lincoln and Charlie compose a great Fringe Division and every viewer is certainly looking forward to see what will happen when they learn the fate of Colonel Broyles. The evil Walternate is happy now that he believes will return to his universe and activate the Doomsday Machine. My vote is eight.

Precious bug is my friend, light horror, conventional story, refreshing format, surprising character development
igoatabase12 February 2011
I'm invincible ! You know you've seen way too much movies when you can't help quoting GoldenEye and are able to list at least 10 productions featuring bugs, Starship Troopers being your very first reference. Immortality was in the same vein as the good old The X-Files episodes starring creeping crawling creatures and other less than human beings. Do your part, squash a bug ! What's wrong with you people ? Before watching this installment I felt like drinking a refreshing glass of water but now I think I'll wait at least 24 hours before doing so. Indeed some disgusting scenes were featured and the last should definitely appeal Zerg players. Still they could have made things even more disturbing and scary. Do they censor their gore creativity on purpose ? How disappointing ! I hate when a show is shy on horror elements when there's the potential to frighten the audience. A naked woman trapped in a giant spider web ? A man mutating into a mantis ? I'm no teacher's pet but I have learned my lesson and consider Fringe should take things to the upper level. The writing was just too conventional and only the surprising format made it more interesting. However there's no doubt that the character development was unexpected and unlike before you'll have to wait for the very last minute to comprehend what the writers had staged for us. It's not a lot but it's our life. The mere viewers we are can only be entertained but when it comes to Fringe I expect much more ! And as a good bug is a dead bug I think it's time for your devoted servitor to sign out.

Alternate Charlie meets Bug Lady
XweAponX11 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This "over there" Fringe Division Case deals with some of the things that are different "over there" - There are no more sheep. Therefore, a certain insect can no longer Breed - So there are no longer any more of these insects. Until Today.

It also deals with Fauxlivia's feelings for Peter. But she is still with "Frank" - Who asks Fauxlivia to marry him. This may be what she wants, but is it what Fate is going to mete out to her?

She Meets Frank in the Docking Station on the Empire State Building as he floats in via Dirigible. Meanwhile, in the Dock Restaurant, a Doctor Armand Silva (Alon Aboutboul) is having a casual discussion about the Weather with another man - When Dr. Silva exchanges water glasses with the man, the man soon goes into the bathroom sick - And Beetles start eating their way out of his body. as Silva Collects them.

Fringe is called in, they bring the Beetle to Bug Lady Mona Foster (Julie McNiven) who has a crush on Charlie Francis - She shows them that this particular beetle only lives in Sheep. Since the Sheep are all dead, how are these Beetles showing up in people?

Frank even joins in the search. Alt-Astrid suggests "asking the public" so this is what they do - They get Called by Silva's ex-Lab Partner, who identifies Silva as the guy who knows all about these critters.

Silva, who is "harvesting" the bug from the unfortunate fellow at the Empire Dock - And runs a test on it, which fails and Silva starts kicking his equipment while muttering censored curses.

Meanwhile, Frank is trying to keep it secret from Fauxlivia that he is going to propose - But he blabs to Fauxlivia's New Fringe Division Boss - Agent Lincoln Lee. Who tells her immediately. All is Fair in the Fringe Division Love and War department, as we know that Lee has been pursuing Fauxlivia for as long as they have been Partners. So, we know he is not really maliciously trying to bog it up between her and Frank. but he is mucking it up nevertheless.

Silva tries again, with a new victim in a Pie shop. Who is again shown with streams of Beetles from his neck, and Silva Below, catching them with glee in a glass tray.

Fringe Div finds out where Silva could be running a Lab, because he needs a cold storage room with Liquid H. But Silva locks Lee in Cold Storage, and imprisons Fauxlivia after she accidentally falls through a broken catwalk.

Silva is shown giving Fauxlivia a glass of Water - Is he infecting Fauxlivia with Bugs? She does start getting sick, and this is what everyone thinks - Frank has a poison that can kill the bugs if in fact she has them. Lee freezes the lock in the cold storage room and is able to get out and call in the Fringe Div Calvary.

Meanwhile Silva makes Lee and Francis believe that Fauxlivia is infected and that he will help them stop the infection, if they help him with "one last experiment"

But Nothing is as it Seems, and that is the case here. Fauxlivia IS sick, but not with Beetles - She is sick with something else, that usually manifests in the morning!

This must have been a kick in the arse to Frank, but what is Fauxlivia going to do, tell him Classified Fringe Division Secrets that she was in fact on the other side? At the end of the day, Fauxlivia is just like Our Olivia and will do the right thing. But in Franks case, she can't.

And of course, Alternate Brandon, aka "Brandonate" - Has a specific idea on exactly how to exploit this new development for The Red Verse' benefit. Se he sets it in motion - With Walternate's blessing.

Fauxlivia's Little Bundle
Hitchcoc9 November 2023
Once again there are two strains at work here. The most global is a guy who is using beetles to produce an important substance, but he needs human hosts. He is the classic mad scientist who tried and failed and is afraid of his legacy. Fauxlivia gets pulled in by her Fringe affiliation and soon believe she has been infected by these critters. I won't throw a spoiler into things but suddenly she has a serious connection to our world and Peter is going to have to make a monumental decision in the very near future. The episode is manipulative and yet the series needed a new boost to get things more intense. Mr. Secretary is back in the game after feeling failure.
