We present to you a tragedy in one act: TNT has cancelled the William Shakespeare drama Will after just one season.
The axing was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, a day after Will wrapped up its ten-episode freshman season. Laurie Davidson starred as the iconic playwright, back when he was a young aspiring writer just trying to get his plays produced. Olivia DeJonge co-starred as Will’s love interest Alice, with Trainspotting‘s Ewen Bremner playing anti-Catholic lawman Richard Topcliffe.

Rolling Stone's Peter Travers pays tribute to the late, great playwright/actor Sam Shepard: "It was never about him. It was always about the work." Everett Collection
Sam Shepard famously hated endings. As a playwright, he felt "the temptation towards resolution, towards wrapping up the package, seems to me a terrible trap."
He got that right. So Shepard leaves us to deal with his ending, a death at 73 at his home in Kentucky, surrounded by family. Als, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, was the culprit. The obits pay...

Welcome to Career Watch, a vocational checkup of top actors and directors, and those who hope to get there. In this edition we take on Italian-American actor-director John Turturro, who stars in Richard Price and Steve Zaillian’s widely hailed limited series “The Night Of” (HBO).
Bottom Line: For 37 years, versatile New York actor John Turturro has delivered memorable characters who can be incredibly smart (“Quiz Show”) or insanely stupid (bowler Jesus Quintano in “The Big Lebowski”), lovable (“Fading Gigolo”) or menacing (the pool hustler in Martin Scorsese’s “The Color Of Money”). He’s a go-to player for both the Coens and Spike Lee as well as a reliable character actor for Hollywood tentpoles such as “The Transformers.”
Career Peaks: After winning a scholarship to the Yale Drama School and performing Ibsen, Ionesco, and John Patrick Shanley off-Broadway, Turturro got stuck playing violent killers in films like “Five Corners...

Several months ago, a meme was born: The CW dramedy “Riverdale” was dubbed “Hot Archie Who Fucks” (or “Hawf,” for short) by several fans. It was a fun way of describing how the show brought an irreverent, sexually charged edge to a previously rather innocent Archie Comics icon.
Credit for the nickname is believed to go to film and TV critic Charles Bramesco.

Following on the heels of “Hawf,” the NatGeo series “Genius” soon became known as “Hot Einstein Who Fucks” – thanks to its own deliberately sexual take on the world renowned scientist and pop culture icon. (Both the younger and older versions of Einstein, played by Johnny Flynn and Geoffrey Rush, respectively, got some on screen.)

If you have a theater fan in your life who has been extra hyped these days, it’s likely because the 2017 Tony Awards are nearly here.
The Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Theatre (as the Tonys are officially known) recognize the highest honor in U.S. theater — the equivalent of television’s Emmys or the film industry’s Oscars.
With no Hamilton-sized hit this year, the race in the top categories has been pretty wide open and hard to predict — with only Bette Midler’s turn in the revival of Hello, Dolly! a lock for the best actress in a musical prize.

Each season of Broadway brings about a slate of unexpected performances and plenty of unforgettable moments. While the 2016-2017 season didn’t see any new show rise to Hamilton-like popularity -- it’s hard for any TV show, film or stage production to reach that level of pop culture zeitgeist -- there are plenty of standout showcases of what fans have come to know and love about the New York City theater scene.
Perhaps the biggest breakout of the season is Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, the musical adaptation of a section from Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace that earned 12 Tony Award nominations, including nods for Best Musical as well as for its cast (Josh Groban, UnREAL breakout Denée Benton and Lucas Steele). “I always dreamed of playing roles like Natasha,” says Benton, a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, who plays the titular hopelessly romantic ingénue.

After two solo movies that didn’t quite connect with the fans, director James Mangold returns for his follow-up to 2013’s The Wolverine, with Logan taking the basic premise of the “Old Man Logan” storyline for what is likely to be Hugh Jackman’s very last Wolverine movie.
Set years in the future in a timeline in which the future of Days of Future Past never took place and mutants are few and far between, Logan has given up on being any sort of superhero, grown out his beard and is working as limo driver “James Howlett” (Logan’s birthname, in case you didn’t know) in Texas. As we meet him, a street gang makes the mistake of trying to steal his hubcaps and when Logan intervenes and is shot in the chest with a shotgun, he unleashes the claws and goes crazy on the gang.

The year is 2029, and the mutant formerly known as the Wolverine isn’t quite as invincible as he used to be. After being alive for almost 200 years, he’s finally starting to show his age. He’s haunted by something from his past (you’ll have to see the previous movies to find out what, or re-visit them to remember), and he hurts people in his dreams. He’s rotting from the inside out, he needs reading glasses, and his healing powers can’t keep up. He’s saved the world like eight times over, but he’s now a glorified Las Vegas Uber driver who cares more about his limo than he does his life. He may be the one guy on Earth who can’t drink himself to death, but that certainly hasn’t stopped him from trying. He’s pretty much a Johnny Cash song with adamantium claws.

The 22nd Critics’ Choice Award is less than a month away. We may be enjoying the shiny new TV season, and while it may seem all fun and new, critics are all to ready to begin awarding some honors. The Broadcast Television Journalists Association have officially announced, via Entertainment Weekly, the TV nominees.
Leading the pack with six nominations is The People v. O.J. Simpson, not a huge surprise given its subject matter and solid execution. Also of note are the sheer number of nominations that HBO has under its belt this year — 22 in total. Noticeably absent are this year’s Netflix Marvel shows. Despite being great TV, it still seems like critics are unwilling to give comic book adaptations their fair shake come awards season.
Oh well. Better luck next year, I suppose? The film nominations will be announced on December 1, 2016.

William Shakespeare, in “Henry IV, Part II,” wrote, “Uneasy lies a head that wears the crown.” Oft misquoted as “Heavy is the head that wears the crown” (or a similar variation), a combination of these interpretations should serve to briefly sum up Netflix’s new, weighty period drama, “The Crown.” A heavy, devout evaluation of a woman who ascended to a complex position of power and an office in turmoil after years of controversy, the new drama is dripping with enough import to make viewers overlook an absence of levity and an abundance of familiarity in exchange for such magnificent prestige.

Both established child actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes were on the cusp of worldwide stardom when they were cast in the titular roles of director Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet about star-crossed lovers from opposing and volatile families.

The 2016 Golden Globe Awards were held last night; it was a long one but thanks to host Ricky Gervais, it was anything but boring. The Revenant took home Best Picture – Drama, Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. Some might hope that Leos’ Oscar chances are a lock now, but let’s remember that for some strange reason he didn’t win for Wolf of Wall Street. The Academy has already closed voting for Oscar nominations, so this award show has no claim to much.
The Martian won Best Picture – Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy for Matt Damon, while the Best Actress honors went to Brie Larson for Room and Jennifer Lawrence for Joy. And our favorite actress, Kate Winslet, won for her supporting role in Steve Jobs. Also, Sylvester Stallone won for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Creed; his last...

The Revenant, The Martian, Sylvester Stallone, Leonardo diCaprio and Mr Robot win big at the Golden Globe awards. Here are the winners...
Might it just be Leonardo diCaprio's year, finally, at the Academy Awards? He and his latest movie, The Revenant, took a big step towards the Oscar stage by taking home the big prizes at the Golden Globe awards overnight. DiCaprio took home the best actor gong (for a drama), whilst The Revenant seized Best Motion Picture, Drama, beating out the early Oscar favourite, Spotlight.
Alejandro G Inarritu won Best Director for The Revenant, too.
Elsewhere? The Martian won big too, with Matt Damon earning the best actor prize in a musical or comedy, with the film itself winning Best Motion Picture (musical, or comedy). Sylvester Stallone nabbed Best Supporting Actor for his work in Creed, with Kate Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress for Steve Jobs.

Golden Globes: Michael Fassbender. 2016 Golden Globes winners, as they're announced The Golden Globes will be hosted once again by Ricky Gervais, who stirred up quite a to-do a few years ago with his three few-holds-barred, back-to-back gigs (2010–2012). At the time, Gervais roasted the rich and famous (and not so-famous) ceremony attendees (and several non-attendees), implying, at times without naming names, that Hollywood Scientologists (Tom Cruise and John Travolta) were gay, that Jodie Foster was a lesbian (a juvenile, cringeworthy joke about Foster's box office flop The Beaver, starring Mel Gibson), that Madonna was hardly like her song “Like a Virgin” (for which he got a rebuke), and so on. Expect more of same this year for the entertainment of those who can only wish they were rich and famous and getting drunk at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills this evening. Who's going to win? The Golden Globes ceremony...

Years after Ricky Gervais roasted Mel Gibson at an earlier Globes show the pair hugged on stage when the Australian introduced footage from Mad Max: Fury Road.
Prior to introducing Gibson, Gervais, tongue firmly in his cheek, referred to previous bad blood between the pair. “I’m sure it’s embarrassing for both of us and I blame NBC for this terrible situation.”
After the embrace Gibson turned to the comedian and said: “I love seeing Ricky once every three years because it reminds me to get a colonoscopy.”
A subsequent exchange was bleeped out.
The Martian was named best musical or comedy. Ridley Scott accepted the award and said “Screw you” as music began to play while he thanked a long list of collaborators.
Scott rounded off by saying: “Finally I know my [late] brother Tony would have been here tonight for sure and I know many of you knew him and loved him. I love you...

And so it goes, Alejandro González Iñárritu's "The Revenant" derails Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight" from dominating award season by winning the most trophies at the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards! Besides taking home the Best Picture Drama trophy, Leonardo DiCaprio also won the Best Actor Drama trophy while Iñárritu received the Best Director award.
The Golden Globes, given by the Hollywood Foreign Press, bestowed "The Martian" as the Best Picture Comedy of the year because it's really funny! According to host Ricky Gervais, "The Martian" was a lot funnier than "Pixels." True that! Matt Damon also won Best Actor Comedy for "The Martian."
Jennifer Lawrence took home the Best Actress Comedy trophy for "Joy" beating her bestie Amy Schumer for "Trainwreck." Brie Larson won the Best Actress Drama award for "Room."
In the supporting acting categories, Kate Winslet won actress for "Steve Jobs" while Sylvester Stallone received the actor trophy.

Winning a Golden Globe doesn't have the same cachet as getting an Oscar or an Emmy, but the awards ceremony itself is often more entertaining, for one big reason: It's unpredictable. The stars are boozed-up, the atmosphere's informal, and the outcomes are … well, sometimes pretty bizarre. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a small organization, and keeps both its membership and its voting practices shrouded in mystery. It's often hard to make sense of its choices, because shadowy cabals would rather not explain themselves.

The 73rd annual Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning. On the movie side, "Carol" cleaned up, garnering the most nominations (five), while "The Big Short," "The Revenant," and "Steve Jobs" each earned four. Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Lawrence, who got no love in yesterday's SAG award nominations, were nominated, while Toms Hardy and Hanks were shut out again. And while Mark Ruffalo didn't nominated for "Spotlight," he did get one for "Infinitely Polar Bear," a movie few people had even heard of. "American Crime," "Fargo," "Mr. Robot," "Outlander," "Transparent," and "Wolf Hall" had the most individual show nominations, with three each. The major networks were nearly shut out entirely (with the exception of Fox's "Empire" and ABC's "American Crime"), with Netflix (eight), HBO (seven), Starz (six), Amazon (five), and FX (five) leading the nominations. NBC didn't get any, which means Lady Gaga officially got more Golden Globe nominations this year than all of NBC.

This year's nominations for the Golden Globes in January have been announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Despite all the slamming the organisation and awards get in the media, they are still the most anticipated awards for film and television outside those two industry's two major ceremonies (Oscars, Emmys).
Leading the film pack this year is "Carol" with five nominations; followed by "Steve Jobs," "The Big Short" and "The Revenant" with four nominations each. Some surprises were in store - Mark Ruffalo nominated for his own "Infinitely Polar Bear" rather than his acclaimed turn in "Spotlight," numerous nods for Starz's popular "Outlander" and welcome nods for Eva Green and Rachel Bloom.
Notable snubs completely shut out include no acting nods for "Spotlight," no Johnny Depp for "Black Mass" or Tom Hardy for "The Revenant," and no recognition for "House of Cards," "Homeland," or "The Affair". Also, and amusingly so,...

The nominations for the 73rd Annual Golden Globes have just been announced, and unlike yesterday’s Screen Actors Guild announcement, there wasn’t really anything in the way of surprises to be found. Todd Haynes’ gorgeous and well-acted drama Carol led the way with five nominations, including Best Picture – Drama, Best Director, two nods for Best Actress – Drama (Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara), and Best Original Score. The Big Short, The Revenant, and Steve Jobs followed with four nominations apiece.
What’s rather interesting to note about these nominations is that no film managed to hit every major spot on the list. The expected winner of Best Picture – Drama, Spotlight, also nabbed nominations in Best Director and Best Screenplay, but failed to get a single acting nod. As mentioned, Carol got in for Best Picture – Drama, as well as for Director and Acting, but failed to nab a Screenplay nod,...

Brought to us by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), some of the nominees are predictable (love for "Spotlight," "Carol") and surprising (Al Pacino in "Danny Collins," or Mark Ruffalo for "Infinitely Polar Bear).
The 73rd Golden Globe Awards will be televised live on NBC on January 10, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at 5:00Pm Pst.
