Not quite as funny or clever as it should be... But she is so hot
Tromafreak1 March 2011
While I love the idea of "the first ever B-movie sitcom". I was at first a little let down by this lackluster attempt at entertainment. Mainly because I thought the original Chainsaw Sally was really good. But mostly because it just didn't seem like they put much thought into this. The guy that now plays Sally's brother, Ruby... seriously. What happened there? I couldn't tell if he was meant to be funny or not. The original was more like a gay man-child, who was actually kinda funny. The new one is just this pointless little guy, who's just dumb.

And the little chick that played Sally's friend, Poe. Even worse. Anything that comes out of her mouth is completely unentertaining. Which is obviously not her fault. Although her acting most certainly was. Now, I'm the absolute last person to complain about acting. But let's not forget the difference between funny-bad and dull-bad. I speak ill of this show only because I expected so much. Then again, there's always Sally...

Alright, enough hate. The truth is, Sally more than makes up for any and all shortcomings.

Brought to you by Jimmyo Burill, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Debbie Rochon and the Troma team! The Chainsaw Sally Show is nothing more than a 3 hour sequel to Chainsw Sally, broken up into 11 episodes. A concept which I hope catches on within the world of B-Horror. The DVD even has a laugh track option, making it feel like a real sitcom. Sally hasn't changed at all. She still thinks that killing and torturing simply because someone irritates her, is OK. Then again, if you had sat through The (original) Texas Chainsaw Massacre as much as she has, well, maybe slaughtering people would seem totally rational. Sally means well. Really she does.

It's all to make the world a better place. Think about it like this. If you buy some mint girlscout cookies, and you end up with peanut butter, all of a sudden, cold-blooded murder doesn't sound quite so cold-blooded, does it? Personally, I love peanut butter. But that's just me. I know how I would feel if I ordered peanut butter and got mint. Betrayed. When I was only trying to be nice to begin with!

Enough about cookies. Sally comes up with plenty of excuses to stalk n' stab away her frustrations. And there's also an episode featuring legendary B-movie beauty, Nicola Fiore, of Terror At Blood Fart Lake fame. In an episode which is by far my favorite, Miss Fiore plays a jogger who gets under Sally's skin by parking her car in a handicapped space. What follows is nothing short of amazing.

It sure was good of Troma to release this in such a nice package, with extras, plenty or trailers, and plenty of other random goodies. The most worthwhile Troma release i quite a while. So, please don't take my criticism from earlier as a warning that you shouldn't buy this. Because you totally should. It just ain't perfect. Then again, there's always Sally...

picks in on the success of the original flick

The original flick was made in 2004. It wasn't as good as expected but somehow it became a bit of cult. If you missed the flick just don't worry. This picks up easily even as you don't know the characters. The difference are some actors playing characters who were played by others in the flick. But there's more gore in it and even here and there a jugg to see.

Still, it's low budget. The sound isn't that good at all over the series and the editing failed on the part of continuity of the characters. But each episode clocking in around 20 minutes it's fun to see. They don't stand alone, you really have to follow them (a bit like Death Valley).

A lot of extras on the DVD like a short flick about, sigh, Chainsaw Sally and a very short about her doing her killings in a cellar. Also a few Troma trailers and a booby show...

Chainsaw Sally is fantastic!!

Can't say how much I loved this show. I've watched the DVD of series 1 countless times already, so much so that I went and bought everything I could find online, including the earlier film and even a musical.

Check out the Chainsaw Sally website for plenty of cast info, DVD releases and photos etc.

Troma have finally picked up on the show, having decided to re-release season 1 with lots of new extras. Can not wait until Series 2 is released. It's being shot as I write.

Clever story lines, sharp direction, lots of laughs, lots of in-jokes and plenty of references to keep horror fans on their toes... silly, shocking, sexy and jammed full with originality.

Way to go JimmyO and April, Chainsaw Sally rocks!!

entertainment for all it's worth

The show is based off the original Chainsaw sally movie, though you don't necessarily have to have seen the film in order to enjoy the show. The Show entertains from beginning to end, lots of gore, gags, and hapless victims, who in one way or another have upset Sallys sense of morale or ethics, and sometimes those rules are what are the funniest things about the show. It's full of cameos, and it's overall very well written and acted. From the original film to this, it's evident that JimmyO has grown as a director, and April as an actress. Ruby is now played by Azman Toy and he does a brilliant job of it. Definitely worth checking out!

Chainsaw Sally Show - potential comic horror classic
regdyer-752-58959823 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Out of the hundreds of horror genre related DVDs released every year there occasionally emerges a memorable character who stands out and will last the test of time. In 2004, the name of Chainsaw Sally qualified to be listed alongside Toxic Avenger. Sally played with gusto by April Monique Burril now reappears on DVD in the newly released CHAINSAW SALLY SHOW SEASON ONE directed by her husband JimmyO Burril. I suspect that this DVD is destined to be regarded as a comic horror classic. Indeed, I cannot envisage any other actress apart from April playing the role of Sally.

Sally by day is a mousey, demure, orderly, bespectacled librarian who is transformed into a devilish, maniacal avenger when her strict code of behavior is broken by others. The transformation is visually emphasized by the dramatic and contrasting change in attire and appearance.

The story is is divided into eleven episodes on a feature packed two disc DVD set about a crazy, zany vigilante named Sally who attempts to make her locality a better place by eliminating those people who she perceives as interrupting her vision of an orderly society. "Rules are rules" says Sally. Anyone breaching the rules will have to face the unpleasant consequences of their actions. Parking in handicapped parking spot to putting the wrong filling into cookies can trigger off the wrath of Sally. Standards of behavior are enforced by her unconventional means. Sally certainly has a low tolerance threshold of code breaching. Retribution is usually swift and effective with no scope for argument from the person destined to be on the receiving end - only a jogger played by Nichola Fiore dares to face up to Sally. Once the wicked smile flashes across Sally's face then you can be certain that another victim is going to be added to the growing list of people who are going to have an unpleasant encounter with Sally. In addition, to the trademark chainsaw, Sally demonstrates that she is adept and versatile in her imaginative use of a range of other implements and materials to make her point as she proceeds on her maniacal missions. Sally has definitely not graduated from charm school.

As each episode is viewed, viewers will be left with a smile on their faces and looking forward to the next episode. As there are a lot of episodes (nearly four hours worth)that means there will be a lot of smiling! I am already looking forward to the DVD release of Chainsaw Sally Show Season Two and the flashing of the words 'It's Sally Time' on the screen once again.

The edition of the DVD set that I viewed contains two discs which included the following features in addition to the eleven episodes which average approx 20 mins each: Bonus film titled 'Grindhog Day', two behind the scenes featurettes, slide show, previews of Season Two, theme music video plus an introduction by Lloyd Kaufman (Toxic Avenger creator). Truly a value for money package of entertainment.
