The Directors Guild of America has announced the winners of the DGA Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in film, television, and commercials for 2011. The DGA's are often considered the best predictor of who will win the Academy Award for Best Director. The nominations were a bit of a shocker because Steven Spielberg was left off the list for his work on "War Horse."
No director not at least nominated for a DGA Award has gone on to win the Best Director Oscar, and only a handful of past DGA winners have failed to win one. Master of Ceremonies Kelsey Grammer, joked about tedious awards shows saying, "Last year's awards were so long, the directors cut is two hours shorter."
We've got the list of winners for you right here. Who do you think will take the Best Director Oscar this year? Are you surprised by the winners? Do you think...

This weekend everyone is a winner! So many awards. And SAG continues the trend tonight (we'll be live blogging right here). Can clapping for 30 days straight give you carpal tunnel?
Let's start with the biggie, the DGA Awards. Last year's winner Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) passed the baton, in the shape of that golden eagle plaque, to this year's winner Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist). Tom Hooper got ambitious post awards flurry as is busy on Les Miserable. Hazanavicius will chase The Artist with another film inspired by Old Hollywood. He's going to remake The Search (1948) which The Film Experience readers will know as Montgomery Clift's debut. (All we can say is good luck finding another Monty. That's an irreplaceable star in Hollywood's firmament.) Given that The Search is a post World War II drama about an American soldier and a child who survived Auschwitz, maybe Hazanavicius won't be...

Los Angeles -- The Directors Guild of America Awards are the latest Hollywood film honors to go silent.
Hollywood's top filmmakers group presented its feature-film honor Saturday to Michel Hazanavicius for his silent film "The Artist," giving him the inside track for the best-director prize at the Academy Awards.
"I really love directors. I really have respect for directors. So this is really very moving and touching for me," said Hazanavicius, whose black-and-white silent charmer has cleaned up at earlier Hollywood honors and could emerge as the best-picture favorite at the Feb. 26 Oscars.
The Directors Guild honors are one of the most-accurate forecasts for who might go on to take home an Oscar. Only six times in the 63-year history of the guild awards has the winner failed to win the Oscar for best director. And more often than not, whichever film earns the directing Oscar also wins best picture.

Tonight the Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced their 2012 winners for Outstanding Directorial Achievement and the path has been paved as Michel Hazanavicius won the award for Best Director for The Artist. This is an award that only six times since the DGA Awards began in 1948 has the winner not gone on to win the corresponding Academy Award. This, of course, also would suggest The Artist is just as strong a front-runner for Best Picture as it is for Director as films such as Hugo and The Descendants can only step out of the way. Elsewhere, in the documentary category, one thing I'm sure will have people talking is the win for James Marsh for Project Nim, a documentary that was not nominated for the 2012 Oscars. I also find it interesting to see Patty Jenkins win for her work on the pilot episode of AMC's "The Killing" as she was...

Right on the indignation of the Forbes List of the Highest Paid Film Actors, comes the fresh hell of the TV Guide Highest Paid TV Actors List. Just like the Forbes list, it's chock-a-block full of middling talent/great talent who have settled for mediocrity. You can read more over at The Hollywood Reporter, but here are a few of the staggering figures to punch the highlights outta your hair:
The highest paid actor in television is this goober, right here. I like him more than some, but he's still a goober. $700,000 per episode of "Two And A Half Men." Mariska Hargitay earns $350,000 an episode of "Law & Order: Sports Utility Vehicle." I hear she's pretty confident in her sexuality. Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor-Allen and Keifer "I Used To Make $400,000/episode as Jack Bauer" Sutherland will each be pulling in $125,000 an episode on their new shows. And, finally, Simon "Blight...
