sub par movie sub par acting with a hint of abortion propaganda
natcalgary22 June 2020
Usually i enjoy Canadian horror movies but too much propaganda was pushed this time. Some disturbing scenes with bad acting couples with sketchy editing and a slow character build that meant nothing at the end.

DEATH IS NOT A JOKE
nogodnomasters30 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Two couples go to a cabin in the woods, cue spinner....and we get death by fortune cookie. Okay the cabin is really a home and their fortune cookies, hand written in Chinese are very grim. No phone reception, the car has been disabled, and miles from the nearest whatever, I think you know the set up.

In this case the story has a unique angle to it as this is not your typical fortune cookie gone bad movie. The problem with the film was primarily the characters. They were far too serious. Most horror films have an occasional light or dark comedy moment to break things up, this one did not. I found the characters to be annoying. At almost 2 hours, the film spends time to build character, but doesn't do it effectively.

There were a few things that were unusual. For instance, when they confirm they have a problem and catch it on camera, they are fairly calm about it. When the first person dies, they just bury that individual in the back yard like they are still living in Chicago. Seriously? I would of had Carl in a Trekkie shirt say, "Dammit Jim. I'm a doctor, not a grave digger!"

The film is different in scope, but is far too long and lacks entertainment value.

Canadian indie chore
Leofwine_draca30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
FORTUNE COOKIE PROPHECIES is another slow and uneventful indie horror film from Canada. The story has two couples holing up in a cabin in the woods, where they spend their time opening fortune cookies and discovering some macabre twists that fate has in store for them. There's a little mystery and some murderous scenes, but this is mainly a talky character drama which is never very interesting. The greyed out look makes it doubly depressing to sit through.

Like Final Destination meets the "Chinese Restaurant" Seinfeld episode.
johnnyhightest28 March 2016
So far, this is playing like a combination of Final Destination and the Chinese Restaurant episode of Seinfeld (James Hong, the maitre d' from the Seinfeld episode, is in this movie!)

Tragedy befalls a group who dined at a Chinese restaurant (incidentally, four of them are opening their own Chinese restaurant) when the fortunes in the fortune cookies they get have a devastating effect on their lives.

It's fairly watchable, with stylized camera effects and mild gore, only I'm watching it on FUSE so there's a lot of commercial breaks.

Funny thing is, it's been an hour and there's no sign whatsoever of the movie featured in the trailer or movie summary!

Very odd.

Really? Abortion Ghost? are you sure you want to make a film about that?
philnwv21 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Words cannot express how unbelievably awful this film was from the ridiculous Pro Life crap: Question 'Why did the ghost steal our tent? Answer:'because it want to experience what an aborted foetus does when left to die in the elements'

To every further poor attempt to lean on films like the grudge/ the ring and Shutter. There is nothing positive i can say about this film apart from its running length as it could have been longer

So So So bad...... if only this Film had been aborted I think it would have been better for all concerned. I am a lover of Horror but this was embarrassment to the genre

Another fantastic selection from Amazon Prime Video
editing_budgie14 October 2019
Ouch, I made it 3 minutes into this p.o.s. before bailing. I can usually get 10 minutes into an Amazon acquisition before my eye-rolling makes it hard to keep watching.

This set a new speed record. Also IMDB, when a horror movie is this bad it has to be Canadian, so putting the country of origin is redundant.

The anti-abortion/pro-life crowd might like it...
gand723 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
But only for the messaging. The movie in general is a drawn-out, plodding waste of time and effort. The production value is all well and good, but just couldn't find much else to like.

The acting is drab and the enemy is ridiculous. She shambles around as slowly as the story moves along. The main character, who is vociforisouly pro-life, is the good guy, along with his pregnant wife, of course, and their friends who chose to have an abortion are the hot-head and the ignoramus.

As I said above, it has a very strong bias towards pro-life messaging. It's not obvious in the beginning but you're being hit over the head with it soon enough, and I hate having religious/political/social agendas thrown in my face. Just avoid.

3 stars generous

Warning: Spoilers
Beautiful scenery, decent acting. Thats about the only good i can say. The part that really bugged me is when they feel the baby kicking and guy says how hard he can feel it. Her stomach is flat as anything. No baby bump whatsoever. Preaching about abortion and couldnt really care less about any of the characters. Felt slow and lame. Not scary at all. I didnt get the movie. So slow couldnt even pay attention. Music lame. After she gives birth and they kill baby everything fine. They dont even seem sad for all their pro life preaching.

Pro no choice propaganda
shaunephillips2811 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What is it with these agenda movies trying to badly disguise their message?

The first issue comes in the form of hitting us over the head with its Chinese theme. Instead of it naturally feeling like it's part of the movie, they really push it on us right away. One person speaks Chinese, one practices Chinese medicine or something, one of them is Chinese and they're about to eat Chinese at the lake house. I mean, jeez, come on.

Then starts the propaganda. I didn't even know the movie was a anti pro choice movie at first, but it didn't take long to put two and two together. Besides that, the acting is bad, the plot is bad and well, it's just bad.
