Disturbing but lacking heart and poorly made.

The internet has seen the rise of the american rougarou or michigan dogman with plenty of podcast witness testimonies as well as self published books offering a wealth of compelling and not so compelling qualitative data for researchers to chew over.

Sadly, for Breedlove, this is a poor example. Considering the vigor and enthusiasm by which he began his cryto-doc career, the film shows a decided lack of effort.

That said it is disturbing but i''m not sure if it's disturbing for the right reasons. A mishandling of a young woman's death proves difficult to digest and lacks respect for both the implied victim and her family.

Breedlove needs to up his game. Trailing along behind the wider discourse devising morsels of adolecent horror isn't where this subject is at or reflective of where his career should be.

The rougarou is now potentially established as an actual being with further citings contentiously reported elsewhere in the UK, middle , eastern and southern Europe as well as the middle east and Latin America. The subject has a significant cottage industry presence which needs examining and the lore and history it's generated needs extracting, analysis and a wider telling.

If the animal exists then media disocurse needs to move away from sensationalist horror towards a different, more accomodating position. In short, stop posturing in shock and ore, grow up and do the public and the natural enviornment a service.

Evidence Please

Lots of stories, most of them very convincing but where's the video evidence?

Nowadays when everyone has a camera in their pocket and ghost and cryptid videos are a dime a dozen this documentary presents exactly NO video evidence! I paid for this on streaming and fully expected some sort of photographic evidence. It was a no-brainer to me - a full length doc on dogmen or "American Werewolves" has GOT to have some new, heretofore never seen video evidence! Wrong! Color me disappointed.

Small Town Monsters

Small Town Monsters (On the Trail of UFOs: Night Visitors, Skinwalker: The Howl of the Rougarou, MOMO: The Missouri Monster) are back with a new documentary, American Werewolves, in which Seth Breedlove asks, "Do real werewolves exist? And what are dogmen?"

With nearly a dozen eyewitness accounts, the film allows these people the opportunity to share their encounters directly to us, the audience. From brief run-ins on rural country lanes to horrifying, face-to-face confrontations and the discovery of the shredded remains of a werewolf victim, each has a frightening story to share.

Every year, dozens of encounters with upright canids are reported in America. Better known as dogmen, some think it's an unidentified species of animal, while others believe that this creature is something supernatural.

Thousands of people go missing in the United States each year and this film posits the hypothesis that a real werewolf -- or dogman -- may be behind it, including a woman abducted in Ohio and a man hiking in Alaska mutilated beyond what any predator would do.

I was really excited to learn that dogmen tend to sow outside Native American burial grounds as I live right next to the second-largest east of the Mississippi.

That said, I'm a big fan of everything that Small Town Monsters puts out and this release is no exception. Their films are always well made, have unique points of view and tell a great story. Often, they stand head and shoulders above basic cable offerings about the same subjects.

Campfire Stories

This is probably the weakest doc Seth and his team has put out. Nothing but campfire stories that shows no kinda proof. I remember someone asking Seth about is there had any proof or evidence shown in the doc and he said yes. Been a huge fan since his Mothman doc but lately the production value is gone down.

Fake and Staged

First thing first: The IMDb genre is only horror, they do not listed this as documentary. So isn't, right ? It is either a fake documentary or staged. Why? Elementary, my dear Watson... One can start watching this and the supers and titles (explaining the "dog-man" events) are only an excuse to try to find a foundation for this "spooky camp fire tales". The so called experts are unbelievable, most of all the emo/blonde/teen... Ludacris 100% Then the witnesses: The guy with a beard is over explanatory so, he's scripted. Then the lady, you can see she's reading out of frame. The crying guy is a joke, when the "anonymous" witness appeared I stopped it and walked away. Scripted lies on camera for dumb people.

Interesting and reasonably convincing interviews, but not a shred of proof.

Where are the cameras with motion detectors in the woods, where are the hair samples, where is the study of bite/scratch marks?

No pictures, no video, no shots fired upon these supposed creatures by anyone (hunters aplenty) no one at any time gets anything to back up the stories.

Sure there are some large areas of woodland that have been untouched for many years and no doubt there are some undiscovered creatures out there somewhere, but werewolves! I don't think so!

The documentary is pretty well done, the interviewees appear to believe their stories, however the conspiracy that the powers that be stifle the news of the sightings due to loss of revenue is ridiculous, the revenue for the chance to see a creature such as this is a huge bonus for a community.

Later on the documentary seems almost satirical or 'Blair witch' found footage.

Decide for yourselves.

Compelling witness testimonies

I don't really believe in most paranormal/cryptid/alien stuff, but I've always been fascinated with that feeling of dread or that chill running down your back when something triggers the internal primal fear. A few of the witnesses in this documentary have such detailed stories told in such a vivid and convincing way, that you can't help wondering. I think that's why this brand of documentary has so much potential, it's like a horror movie but you don't have that safety net of knowing it's fiction. The doc is cut together in an 80s themes with oldschool SciFi fonts and synth music, very "now" in the vein of Stranger Things. But it works. It's even made in 4:3 (or maybe 5:4) ratio rather than 16:9 to give that 80s TV feel. Maybe that's a stylistic choice I think it could have avoided as almost half my TV real estate is not being used when I watch. Short version: very effective documentary, well edited, good choices in witness testimonies, maybe a bit long. Definitely worth a watch if you're the kind of skeptic who leans towards "maybe".

Not a Bear

This is another documentary by Seth Breedlove on American werewolves. In this film he interviews a lot of convincing people who can't look straight into the camera and tell their story. The stories sound convincing in their unverifiable details. It mentions many people who have gone missing in the Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky by not by name which again would make the story easy to check. There are no pictures of these werewolves just recreations. There is a picture of a lone perfect track. You would think someone would set up some motion cameras. Then they toss in a supernatural element of Indian burials. They make an attempt at some multiverse string theory stuff as best could be explained in Kentucky. I feel asleep.

Believe it ... or not

No pun intended - and I can tell you from the start: I do not believe it (them). That being said, I do believe that some of the people who talk here (some even hide their identity - I reckon they are aware of people probably making fun of them, if they knew who they are) actually believe they saw a werewolf ... or more. I guess the whole thing is mildly entertaining - but you really have to suspend your disbelief to say the least.

Not sure I can give you a reason to watch this - let's just say if you like to hear people talk and not have any evidence to back anything of that up ... well you could do worse. We do get to see werewolves - I reckon they used some prosthetics, but I did not look who made those effects/suits ... I really couldn't care less. It was a nice ending to the whole Howling watching I did in the last few days ...

Giant Bi-Pedal Doggos

I just finished watching this documentary and I will say two things-it was really well done and the witnesses seemed legit. Something is definitely going on we just don't know or understand it. If you are a fan of STM or just Werewolves in general this is something you want to see.

To many sightings from reasonable people to not believe these things exist..amazing how easy it is to program society not to believe things are real when they are.

A documentary so satisfying that I howled at the moon myself!

I thoroughly enjoyed this! I'm not sure how to praise it without writing a novel. There's so much to say.

Just to sit and listen to the witnesses who encountered the "dogman" was a treat. I believe them. Their stories made me feel uneasy and on-edge for the rest of the night. It's obvious that these are regular, genuine people with no reason to lie. Their accounts are decades old, yet you can still sense the terror in their voices. It was chilling.

They definitely encountered SOMETHING. In my state we have the Jersey Devil in our Pine Barrens region not far away from me so I grew up hearing similar tales around mysterious beasts in the woods. The dogman isn't far off.

These things must have some basis in reality. It's likely there are horrific animals out there that we can't see or haven't seen yet. This documentary suggests that the dogman *could* be paranormal in nature; a product of the Indian burial grounds.

Personally, I reject this notion. No, as with most situations, there is a scientific answer here... somewhere. Dogmen, like Bigfoot, can possibly exist without the benefit of ghosts.

And boy, let's talk about the style of this piece! It uses an 80's VHS aesthetic with a great synth soundtrack which was perfect.

In keeping with this theme, for dramatic effect they used a bad, campy werewolf costume and it was awesome! I wouldn't have it any other way. The lighting they used makes it crazy scary as the scenes synced with eyewitness testimony. They elicited more raw emotion with probably 150.00 than a Hollywood studio would with thousands spent in CGI.

There is no reason why American Werewolves doesn't deserve a perfect score. I'm going to watch it again soon!

Not bad

Just like most of the other Cryptid shows, I've watched this one is far different compared to MonsterQuest and a few others, but doesn't beat them.

I think what separates this compared to the others is the fact that it's just one full episode 1h and 36m.

It has a very unique style of art, which made more interesting and entertaining, it reminded me of the old 90s show animal X.

Remember when I said, it doesn't beat MonsterQuest, with all the good stuff aside, it's not a perfect show, and does have issues like the fact that they mentioned about a girl getting devoured by the creature, the father seemed very genuine in his tears, but I think that's terrible part of that is that he didn't have the authorities simplifying, or helping the family with their loss.

Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the show and I do recommend it.
