This was a fierce first cast with a lot of well known personalities that people love and can relate to. Valentina's judging was constructive and direct which made it digestible. A touch of the Mexican slang and knowledge was missing from the project as a whole. The nodes to chicano culture and other Latin American countries was great to see in the first Latinamerican Drag Race. However, the application of this format to that country got sometimes lost in the many Spanish references and the Mexico adaptation felt missing. A host that had a career built in Mexico or more direct referential challenges would balance this better. Nonetheless, we saw awesome looks with cultural references from queen like Matraka, Serena, Pixie and the others. Some gone to soon like Margaret and Pixie, but some not soon enough. Great first set of guest judges. Can't wait to see many more known celebrities and fierce queens of various talents from all across Mexico.

If the Look Be Mild, the Judges Go Wild
owen-watts9 October 2023
The first of a glut of three new international drag shows recorded at the same gigantic studios in Columbia - Mexico debuts a nice chunky stage, an absolutely cavernous werk room with loads of mirrors and a newly remixed soundtrack. The unique elements include two hosts, an unmasked Valentina and the great Lolita Banana (a personal favourite contestant of mine from the evergreen Drag Race France) and a glut of talented and not-so-talented Mexican queens. The two hosts work well together and have good chemistry, but their permanent co-judge Óscar Madrazo doesn't make much of an impression. There's also a few too many episodes and a strong sense of padding (compilation episodes, multiple double shantays/sashays). I've also never been a fan of crying "rigged" at Drag Race, it's usually just folk who wanted someone else to win, but there genuinely feels like a case for it here which is a serious shame.

Amazing queens

I have fallen in love with this season & the queens. For me by far the best international season out there. The queens are very talented & very polished. Production is top notch & lives up to the U. S. version. The first lip sync of the season wasn't great but lip syncs after that have all been great. Not only does this season make me smile & be joyful but it has its moments of emotional stories attached to it. It's a total package for me & I can't wait for season 2!

Also, Valentina is an amazing host & beautiful as ever! Nothing against Lolita Banana but Valentina could've hosted this alone.

Great season, with room for improvement

Warning: Spoilers
This is a good season. Once the first few queens were eliminated, the talent on the runway, the lip syncs, and the content overall got way better. Of course, online haters will ALWAYS spew their toxic comments. In my opinion, the first season of DR Mexico surpassed many premiere seasons of other franchises (better than Italia 1 and Down Under).

Here are some key things people tend to complain about: 1. The Hosts: yes, Valentina is amazing, but you can tell she isn't familiar with all the nuances of the Mexican culture since she grew up in the US. Lolita may need some polishing, but she compliments Valentina well and she was raised in Mexico.

2. The lip syncs: not every lip sync calls for the splits, twirls, backflips, and acrobatic performances. The majority of the lip syncs were quite entertaining, no need to overdo the performances.

3. The Challenges: most of them were fun! Some need to be revised (the villain episode). But, let's hope they improve in season 2.

4. The "favoritism": Dear god, the delusion of some people online. Were there some judgment calls that surprised me, yes. But every single win Cristian ever gets is criticized and invalidated simply because they wish another queen won, regardless of actual merit.

Great start to something Amazing

The entire cast was lovely. I enjoyed everyone.

I loved the hosts and they complimented each other so well ( I'm looking at you Valentina stans).

For those who look down on Lolita, it's sad that you've allowed your blindness to not see the royalty and heart which graced your screens.

It's amazing to see 2 people get along with each other and get things done. I love Valentina and Lolita through it all.

The lipsync started off rough but became better as the season progressed so I'm happy bout that.

Some of the winning placements was questionable bout I wouldn't have picked any other winner.

The top 4 felt CORRECT.

I loved the overall positivity of the season and it's one I've watched about 3 times since it concluded. Good job can't wait for season 2.

What a shame, needs a lit of improvement

Warning: Spoilers
As a huge fan of RuPaul's Drag Race I feel very disappointed of this season. It was Mexico's opportunity to show our charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent as well as our culture to the world and failed.

There are a lot of mistakes, starting with the cast. Half of the girls weren't ready for this reality show and don't get me started with the judges. I love Valentina but sometimes she couldn't express what she wanted appropriately and Lolita Banana was so extra and dramatic; in conclusion they didn't have chemistry and their comments and critics weren't good nor funny. Oscar Madrazo was simply awful, a terrible choice.

In addition, the judges had a clear favoritism for Cristian Peralta. I mean, she's good but she shouldn't have won all those episodes, it became annoying because Regina and Matraka did better in a lot of those. Also the production was not the best, the camera angles were really unflattering for the queens and their looks and the challenges were terrible choices too.

And finally and the most disappointing thing is that Drag Race Mexico is a big bad copy of season 1 of Drag Race España, they even copied situations that were organic in Spain, so Mexico's version looks super acted and 0% natural.

I really hope they fix all this for the next season so it's at an international level.
