Resolving the challenges that were established in season 2 part 1 of "Resident Alien", this set of episodes saw Harry Vanderspeigle continue his comedic quest to return to his native alien planet. Part 2 thus rounded off a superb, hilarious, and memorable season 2 of "Resident Alien", and they even gave it a wonderful twist at the end, promising more extraterrestrial madness in future.
Directors Kabir Akhtar, Warren P. Sonoda, Brennan Shroff, and Robert Duncan McNeill did outstanding work in part 2. Writing episodes 9 to 16 for this part were Cherry Chevapravatdumrong, Christian Taylor, Zach Cannon, Nastaran Dibai, Jenna Lamia, Sarah Beckett, Emily Eslami, Jeffrey Nieves, and Chris Sheridan who addressed pending mysteries admirably and did not compromise on comedy.
Amazing work all round by the stunts, VFX, editing, and sound effects teams. Noah Sorota's musical scoring continued to delight. Ana M. Amortegui and Stephen Jackson did superb work on cinematography for part 2. Michael Joy's production design was praiseworthy. Notable work on set decoration and art direction. Christine Thomson did great work on costumes for part 2. Practical effects and hair-makeup were praiseworthy.
Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle amped the comedic value of this series. I loved every scene in which he featured, including episodes 9-16 in part 2 of the show. His awkwardness and dark humour continued to engage and regale.
Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees was great. She brought heart to this series. Her father Dan Twelvetrees, played by Gary Farmer, was quite good. Ben Hawthorne (the town mayor), played by Levi Fiehler, was great. He was so naturally funny. Kate Hawthorne (the mayor's wife) as Meredith Garretson was amazing. Max Hawthorne (the annoying but aware kid), played by Judah Prehn, was noteworthy.
D'Arcy Bloom (the barkeep), played by Alice Wetterlund, was superb. Judy Cooper, played by Jenna Lamia, was quite good. Corey Reynolds as Sheriff Mike Thompson was flawless. Elizabeth Bowen as Deputy Liv Baker was astounding. Sahar (Max's friend and the voice of reason), played by Gracelyn Awad Rinke, was memorable. Bobby Smallwood (the alien baby transformed), played by Kesler Talbot, was good. Peter Bach, played by Terry O'Quinn, was a pleasant surprise - he brought great value to this season.
Detective Lena Torres, played by Nicola Correia-Damude, was good. Ellen Cho (the nurse), played by Diana Bang, was amazing. General Eleanor Wright, played by the one and only Linda Hamilton, was great. David Logan, played by Alex Barima, was noteworthy. Elliott, played by Justin Rain, was quite good. Ethan Stone, played by Michael Cassidy, was intriguing. Joseph (the hybrid grey alien), played by Enver Gjokaj, was quite good.
Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, as himself, was an ecstatic surprise. His appearance in the penultimate episode was bonkers-great.
All cast and crew did amazing work in part 2 of "Resident Alien" now streaming via Amazon Prime VOD.
I already reviewed season 2 part 1, so I'm going to keep this one simple and to-the-point. The suspense throughout season 2 was consistent and part 2 did not fail to entertain. Every character contributed something special that added to the craziness which "Resident Alien" has come to be known for.
The Galvan-Powell Group was the villainous hub from which strange goings-on unravelled in part 2, particularly around Goliath. That alien baby was still at large and proved to be as funny as it was creepy. Everything about the mystery-artist Goliath (played by David Bianchi) was superb, including that twist involving Harry. I also loved the various emotions they packed into this season, especially episode 15.
Mistaken identities, veiled threats, murders, deceptions, the meaning of friendship, dangers of the alien-invasion kind, and comedies galore kept part 2 going strong. I enjoyed all eight episodes, and am genuinely looking forward to the invasion of season 3 "Resident Alien". They found a way to add more mysteries, conspiracies, suspense, and plot-twists to work with in the coming season.
Also, when is the official merchandise for this show going to be announced? They better not forget that adorably deadly baby alien - cutesy sounds, crazy growls, and all.
