Buffoonery written all over: wish you had watched paint dry instead it.
samxxxul11 November 2023
This movie is one of the prime examples of enduring oneself in cinematic torture, and I find myself envying those who had the foresight to download this film instead of wasting their time and money at the theater. I wish the critically acclaimed Raju Murugan didn't indulge in pleasuring himself with visual appeal over narrative coherence.

This is solely made for the sake of aesthetic buffoonery. The gags are not organic, and the film feels forced from start to finish.

I would not recommend it to anyone, even those who loves the director's previous work or the fans of actor Karthi. I know Karthi has delighted audience with his creative endeavors churning out some good to passable films. But this film is desperate to be edgy and relevant that both the Director and cast forgot what it means to make a decent cinema.

In closing, this is a film that will make you wish you could get back the time you wasted watching it.

Didn't expect this from Karthi
Aditya_Shankar12 November 2023
I just watched Karthi starrer Japan, and I have to say - "It's boring" - it could've been a good script but it failed as a movie. Wasted opportunity by the director.

First half is an utter waste - felt like walking out of the theatre, and second half was decent, and it actually had a good ending to the story.

GVPK'S music fails to deliver goosebumps. Just a lame loud bass sound doesn't make a good bgm!

Coming to the acting, Karthi has done a good job, but the poor writing cannot be saved by Karthi's nice acting. Then there are these ridiculous fight scenes (especially that one scene after his intro;-)

There are plot twists. Some predictable, and some unpredictable. Still, that doesn't impress. The film has unnecessary violence and the fights happen too late (the hero talks for a while before a fight and we keep waiting for the dialogues to end and the fight to start)

Climax was good. That's all there is to this film.

Pure unadulterated trash
kennethmanoj12 November 2023
I wonder what made anyone involved to even make this movie. The two story lines are so abhorrent and unbearable meandering everywhere but going nowhere. Karthi tries to make an impact but falls flat in his face with every scene being more cringeworthy than the last. The violence scenes seem unnecessary and the characters from his henchmen to the cops don't add any meaning. The worst is the cheap copycat of the GVM cop role whose entire role is to keep chasing the culprit.

The scene where the so called movie about Japan was made kicks in at about five mins. If you can survive and enjoy the movie scene which runs for five mins then please continue with the movie but if you can't just get out and walk away.

Life's too short to waste three hours on this movie.

Worst Movie of Karthi
abhilashrajashekar10 November 2023
Being a big fan of Karthi's movies, it's disappointing to say that if I were to rank them from worst to best, this particular film unfortunately takes the top spot. I had a challenging time with it - the story felt weak, the plot was confusing, and the attempts at humor just didn't work for me. The pacing issues made both halves of the movie drag on, leaving me pretty disappointed.

The core problem was the story itself - it lacked the depth and complexity that I usually appreciate in Karthi's films. The way the plot unfolded felt disjointed, making it hard to stay connected with the characters. The humor fell flat, and at times, it was just plain boring.

Despite Karthi's efforts with a new approach to his character, something didn't click on screen. Whether it's the script or directorial choices, the effort didn't translate well.

Now, while this film might currently hold the "worst" position in my ranking, I still have faith in Karthi's talent. Every artist faces ups and downs, and I'm hopeful that this is just a temporary setback in his career. I look forward to seeing him bounce back with stronger projects. This review isn't a critique of his entire filmography - it's more like a rough patch that I hope he moves past soon.

Worst of Worst and boring
ashokkumarjayabalan2 December 2023
Senseless Narration * Lackluster Story & Very Poor Screenplay * Forgettable Songs * Silly Heroine Track & Investigation Scenes * Half Baked Sub Plots * Weak Characterizations.

* no logic and all characters look like serial drama artist for episodes * Worst body language of karthi and don't know what he is trying to imitate * Even the screenplay is very weakly written. The flow of scenes never makes any proper sense and the scenes never create an interest in the way they are being unfolded on screen. All the subplots are poorly written, especially the heroine track looks very silly and unwanted as she appears only for 10 minutes in the whole film. Even the whole investigation process never engages us.

If you have time to waste, please watch it.
shihrosh11 November 2023
Probably one of the worst movies in Karthi's career. No idea why he accepted such a movie. And no idea how the director narrated the story to the main cast and convinced the producer to make such a movie. No story, no comedy, no action, zero entertainment. Movie started off with a fight between a husband and wife followed by a robbery scene. Then comes the hero introduction. Probably one of the worst hero introduction you can ever think of. Then the story gives a feeling of an introduction to a good cops film. But continues without any proper direction. No proper villain character and no proper cast. Importantly, no idea about the film location, Cops travel to Andhra then Kerala and then again to Tamilnadu and all these within two days by road. There is no scope for heroine. She comes for few scenes and suddenly disappeared. KS Ravikumar comes for 3 or 4 scenes, but don't know what character does he play in the movie. Time to mother sentiment, just to convince the family audience, which is the biggest minus for the film. Please watch it if you have enough money and time to waste...

abihari-0209512 November 2023
Before you guys spending money on this movie, Karthi was going with the flow then suddenly I don't know why he chooses this movie worst screenplay worst storyline and acting was kind of unnatural Karthi tried a new body language and slang but it gets annoying in a while.

GV Prakash music was ok other actors like fillers to this movie not an impactful characters.

The movie mixed with variety of sentiment and entertainment but it doesn't helps us to get in with the flow if you 're a expecting something big like Kaidhi or Theeran this is not the right movie overall not worth it for money I spent.

Japan = Boring
sathyaaero11 November 2023
Cops in search of a culprit named 'Japan' for robbing a jewellery shop.

Unexpected film from Actor Karthi (played as a lead 'Japan') and director Raju Murugan. Unexpected in the sense 'disappointed'.

The main reason was the poor screenplay. The film started, travelled and ended in a complete boring way. Not even attractive in a single scene. None of the technical aspects supported this film. The composition and a few frames of this film worked from a cinematography aspect. Even the title card didn't perfectly made and the tag animation of Karthi's 25 (The 25th film of the actor who performed the 'Japan' character)too had poor graphics. The cast performed really well.

Nothing positive to say about this film. Really disappointing!! This film would have been better if the importance of Japan's character gave to the screenplay. Only the Japan character, Karthi's performance, his costume design and make up shines.

Don't watch this movie.
meghaashankar12 December 2023
This is by far the worst movie I've watched in my entire life. I cannot believe that an actor like Karthi would choose to make a movie like this. It does not even fall into the category of 'so bad that it's good'. This movie is horrible at every aspect and must be avoided at all costs.

There is no progression to the story, nothing to look forward to. There's loud background music at every step of the way and too many unnecessary sub plots. Watching the movie honestly felt like a punishment. I couldn't even sit through the entire duration of the movie. My humble request to everyone would be to watch any movie other than this.

I was so disappointed by the movie that I had to write a review on it (also happens to be my first IMDb review).

I fell asleep, yes, it was that boring
isaacsundaralingam11 November 2023
Raju Murugan's latest heist comedy 'Japan' is an incoherent mess. Right from the get go, this movie tries to set itself apart from every other Tamil movie by banking on its obnoxious outfit. Unfortunately, something different doesn't always guarantee something good. Especially not when the "different" is aimless and devoid of any entertainment value.

Japan flops hard on all metrics but the box office (or at least not as of yet) since it tries to be everything but is good at nothing; the mystery, the action, the comedy and most comically the social commentary. The only thing it does right is to cure any and all cases of insomnia cos man, I slept through at least 30 minutes of the movie like it was nobody's business.

An Underwhelming Experience: The Movie Japan disappointed
arinsai5 December 2023
As an avid moviegoer, I was excited to watch "The Movie Japan" with high hopes for a captivating cinematic experience. However, I left the theater feeling thoroughly disappointed and underwhelmed by what unfolded on the screen.

One of the major letdowns of the film was its lackluster storytelling. The plot felt disjointed and confusing, lacking a clear direction or purpose. The narrative meandered aimlessly, leaving me disconnected and unable to fully invest in the characters or their journey. It felt as though the filmmakers attempted to cram too many subplots and ideas into one film, resulting in a cluttered and unsatisfying viewing experience.

Furthermore, the character development was sorely lacking. The main characters felt one-dimensional and shallow, leaving me uninterested in their fates or motivations. I struggled to connect with them on an emotional level and found it difficult to care about their struggles or triumphs. The script failed to provide them with meaningful arcs or moments of growth, making their actions and decisions feel arbitrary and contrived.

The pacing of the film was also problematic. It felt sluggish and dragged on, making the already confusing storyline feel even more tiresome. Moments that should have been exciting or impactful were dulled by the lackluster direction and pacing, resulting in a stagnant and unengaging viewing experience. I found myself constantly checking my watch, waiting for the film to finally pick up its pace or deliver a compelling moment that never quite arrived.

Moreover, the cinematography and visual effects were lackluster. There was a noticeable absence of creativity or innovation in the camerawork and visual choices. The film failed to make use of its settings and locations to create visually stunning or immersive scenes. The special effects, when present, felt poorly executed and unconvincing, further diminishing any potential for visual spectacle.

Lastly, the soundtrack was forgettable and failed to leave an impression. It neither enhanced nor added depth to the scenes, feeling like an afterthought rather than a deliberate creative choice. The lack of a memorable and impactful score further contributed to the overall underwhelming nature of the film.

In conclusion, "The Movie Japan" failed to live up to its potential. With its convoluted plot, underdeveloped characters, sluggish pacing, and lackluster visuals, the film fell short of creating a compelling and enjoyable cinematic experience. It left me feeling disappointed and disconnected, unable to fully engage with its narrative or characters. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this film, as it lacks the substance and craftsmanship required to leave a lasting impression on its audience.

You may hape a no of perspectipes but the mopie is actually good, with a sentiment scene, action scene and eperything that you would expect in a moVie so my opinion is that please watch the mopie you will really like the moVie if you watch it i belieVe . Actor karthi's way of choosing the story was really nice the climax scene was really good to down you and make you bow dowm to whole moVie but to be frank anu emmanuel's acting is really not good.but still its there. Its pery happy to see youtubers like irfan then rithick piews father are special moments in that mopie mainly the coimbatore slang and the tuticurin slang has been talken there which added aditional pros to the mopie and the roles of the police was also good.

It will be Disgusting film
rrraja-5203115 December 2023
Karthi's 25th film is a disaster There are no amusing elements, and it seems as though someone spat up something bizarre. Inauthentic movie sequences like violence, drama, and pseudoscience scenes are what people dislike. An entire three-hour waste. If the director's name had been attached to this movie, people would have stopped watching it. No actor should give this filmmaker a chance since he mishandled the stunning city of Japan. This is the most intense movie after many days. There is nothing to enjoy this movie even in one scene. If you think the moviegoer is stupid, then understand that the loss is due to you, the director and the actor.

Don't Get Your Hopes Up
best-review10 November 2023
Yo, peeps, let's break down this flick real quick. The plot? Not the most thrilling ride, ya feel? The storytelling is a'ight, and some scenes got that good pen game, while others just straight-up snooze-worthy.

Now, Japan's character? A mix, fam. Sometimes, it's all entertaining and got you smirkin', but other times, it's just flat-out annoying. The director's hustle is decent, nothing mind-blowing. Karthi brings the heat with a solid performance, no cap. Anu Emanuel? Sorry, but she's kinda putting us to sleep. Sunil does his thing like always, so mad props to him.

Now, peep this: the locations, sets, and fits are on point-props to the crew for that. Cinematography? Straight fire. Background music? It bumps. Should you check it? Nah, but if you catch it, keep them expectations in check, you feel me?
