Amateur Mystery

Warning: Spoilers
"The Watchers" tells the story of several people, who, over the course of a few days, disappear. All of them had in common a strange scar and sudden pain caused by it. When the case seems to be increasingly connected with an incident of brutal murder some time before the occurings, time's about to run out for a young woman, carrying the sign as well.

I'm generally not the biggest fan of supernatural elements in films and there are quite a few things I find difficult about this one as well but generally I have to say that some thought was put into the plot and the paranormal elements don't disturb the mystery element of the movie too much. Unfortunately, it is therefore lacking financial background and experience. Often it looks more or less like a better highschool project, which can destroy the mood sometimes. While I appreciate that producers didn't include tries to create own special effects with low budget, especially the scenes with the dark force appear a bit amateurish.

All in all this film is story-wise not worse than many highbudget mystery-shockers. However, it looks kind of cheap and the lack of experience prevents the plot to have a stronger impact and appear more horrible.

Amateurish indie horror

Warning: Spoilers
THE WATCHERS is your usual amateurish indie horror flick featuring a mainly female cast imperilled by an unknown maniac. It starts off with an off-screen massacre and proceeds down the usual stalk-and-slash avenue, barely registering on the viewer's interest throughout. The plot reminded me of SCREAM a little but there the similarities end. This is very slow and very talky, with bad production values and direction; a worthless feature, in fact.
