8 out of 10????
elsamirre20 June 2023
I usually don't review shows that I didn't watch to the end. But this one is such a torture! I looked it up to find outhow many more painful episodes would be released and almost puked when I read 50. 50!!!! What the??!

Matter of factly, I coerced myself into watching because the actors speak a very vivid, realistic Korean. As a learner, I wanted to mimic their intonations and it works marvels. Still. The story, gosh!

So many useless characters, scenes, events. It's all a pathetic mess. No tension, no romance, no nothing. I read somewhere that dramas are made for brainless people and that most of them were just like that, both boring and ridiculously over the top. I so disagree. Despite their many flaws, most dramas are excellent, as they will pull your heart out. This one is an epic failure.

So... how is it rated 8??? I must be missing something. Still. I don't care. I can't have any more of this. I just can't.

Dropped it on episode 30
nanakitsch15 July 2023
This series is really addictive. It reminds me of the classic mexican telenovelas of the 90's. Pure conflict everywhere, all wealthy family members living together in one mansion, constant shouting, no privacy at all. Every time someone is talking theres a family member hearing behind the door.

The grandmother and the FL in-laws are soooo irritating. Come on! The leads are 30-ish years old, both successful in their jobs and they can't even think about living the way they would want to in any aspect.

About the kissing scenes: not-a-single-one in 30 episodes. Literally i spent 30 hours of my time in this drama and not a sigle kiss.

So, i dropped it.

First Kiss Finally Episode 37!!!
PalmBeachG28 July 2023
This is the most non-romantic, romantic K-Drama I have ever seen. I stuck with it since always finish something I start. Will update after ending if need to. First, never really fond of shows that deal with father's that don't take responsibility for their children and there is definite much push from everyone around the FL regarding abortion despite the mother's feelings (from the father, her mother, & her brother). Kept watching as I knew there was hope due to the description of getting a "contract" marriage but low and behold, the meddling grandmother in that household was additionally telling the unwed mother to go in that direction, as well as another family member that is married that is threatening to do it because a divorce is pending So much sadness in the beginning. Something makes you want to keep watching to root for the baby because it seems that hardly no one else will other than the mother. The baby's gynecologist steps up to be the contracted husband (but he has reasons of his own for doing this). It takes 37 episodes before the mother gets a kiss from this man (way after the baby is born!). Of course this is when the "real" father "The Real Deal" appears. (The mother never told him in the first place). So how will this turn out?

Final Edit - Came back to change my 7 stars to 6 after watching entire series. Seems I am the only one here that felt bad for the "The Real" father. Jung Eui-jae deserves more praise for the role he played. I tuned in day after day only because of the great job he did. How cruel every single person in the script was to him - you can help but feel empathy for him who really loved his baby. Can you blame him for playing dirty tricks to try and get his child after being deceived for a year - never having been told in the first place that this was his child and only finding out by accident? Sure he made a comment to the FL when they broke up that was cruel at the time but he didn't know she was pregnant and it was a relationship of 5 years - not some fly by night relationship. FL should have told him from day one. So of course I did not like the ending. Can't say much for the script - cruel from day one to the very last episide!! Cruelest drama ever.

What makes a family
alaningle79 November 2023
Oh Yeon-doo (Baek Jin-hee) is a successful teacher who finds she is pregenant after falling out with her boyfriend. Through circumstances she meets and agrees to enter a fake marriage with Gong Tae-ky (Ahn Jae-Hyun) this series stretches over fifty episodes and shows the conflict between and within the families of the two leads. I wish people would realise before they criticise that these type of dramas have shaky sets and often don't have the luxury of various takes to make sure the acting is always spot on. Overall the cast do a sterling job and even though I came to consider quitting it after the first ten episodes I decided to stick with it. It is a sweet story and the ending of each episode leaves you wanting to know what happens next, and this is what a good soap should do.

Love this kdrama
chksbqjh6 July 2023
Just over half way through the series and loving every minute! Of course this show won't appeal to everyone and everyone is entitled to voice their opinions. I just wish some negative critics would express their criticism in a less pompous way though. Of course the storyline has some weaknesses -but that is true for most k-dramas. Personally I find some genres very difficult to watch for a variety of reasons and I either choose not to watch or stop watching fairly soon. I like romantic dramas and comedies and don't see any reason to condemn a show out of hand because of some 'unrealistic' scenes. 50 episodes may well be overlong for some people but in this case it isn't for me. Can't wait for the next episode!

Agree with the other reviewer.
eden1885 July 2023
Agree with the other reviewer's comment, how the rating so high?!?! 7.2/10?? (July 2023).

I have always rated Korean dramas and movies above most of the Hollywood rubbish released recently, but KDramas of late have been really poor - poor script, poor acting, just not the usual standard when I have started (and enjoyed) watching KDramas.

My wife and I have recently re-watched Hwarang again, THAT is one of the best KDrama and binge watched it in a week, we just can't stand these recent ones, the lack of character building, plot has more holes than a sieve and it's so hard to watch the whole series. Has Korea followed the West to churn out any rubbish just for Netflix??

Anyway, 5 mins into episode 6 and I'm off to have a shower, I'm that bored. We'll just have to pick another old KDrama again, Queen for 7 days? Cyan Landing on You? Kingdom? Rooftop Prince?

I'm happy to watch any of those over and over again to get my KDrama fix.

Best kdrama
bxndxm13 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly I didn't believe I would find a a kdrama is good, it's insane how it's so good everything about this is so good, and so much different and unique from other dramas. I could always rematch this like always because I know it's not boring, I love how the endings are always so exciting that I cannot wait to see the new episode. The cast definitely deserves awards and so much more. Incredibly talented and amazing people acting🌸People need to realize that you can't just drop it half way without seeing everything. Also it's so jaw dropping when it's not even done yet, I will be in a coma if this kdrama ends it's my best comfort drama.

How did this pure load of crap get a green light?

Poor casting, Bad acting, one of the worst Kdrama script. Nothing really makes sense. Sometimes I keep watching a show because it's so bad that it's good (read hilarious). Well it's not the case here, you just want to quit which I did at the beginning of episode 7 where the story reaches becomes even more idiotic. Don't lose your time on this one. To reach the 600 characters i'll copy paste the text Poor casting, Bad acting, one of the worst Kdrama script. Nothing really makes sense. Great
sabeehahg28 August 2023
I'm a fan of slow burn dramas and this was definitely it. I love this drama because it has so many twists and turns. The fact that there is 50 episodes is a total joy and I don't know what I'm going to do once this drama ends. Love that there is many scenes with an actual baby and how the couple develops as the story goes. Also loving Ahn Jae Hyun's acting in this. He's showing us his passion in this drama and we are here for it. There were lots of cute moment and oh my gosh moments. It wasn't hyper realistic but not far fetched either. It was just the right amount of drama for me. I'd give this drama a solid 4/5.

Exhausting Tedious etc
ljansen-8768213 September 2023
The series depicts the story of an unmarried pregnant woman and an unmarried man who enter into a false contract which leads them to romance, pregnancy, childbirth, and childrearing.

Suffice to say that despite this having 50 episodes it had absolutely no romance, No Comedy, No dramatic moments or anything memorable! Can't remember if anyone ever kissed despite several relationships within this series. (One or two seemed genuine).

Really bad script writing. Awful costumes (I mean ankle socks for the FL making her look infantile WTH was that about?!). Crap casting (fire the casting agents now!) Really bad acting. Alongside the boring stereotypical hysterical screaming idiotic/bullying females; mother, sister in laws and grandmother. And continues with the tiresome trope of grown up married couples living together under the grandmother's tyrannical rule in the 21st century in extremely pokey bedrooms. I mean please why would wealthy people live like that? Only finished this because I always finish what I started. This did nothing positive for the Korean film and television industry except to highlight how poorly constructed it can be at times. Cannot think of one single actor who was memorable or worthy of the term. In this series.

Some attempt to have a debate on Abortion but really sub par. The only angst and real reason it gets any stars from me was the genuine debate on infertility and IVF, alongside the distress of the couple struggling to conceive.

And please this is the third Kdrama I have watched where the pregnant FL never ever LOOKS pregnant at four or five months; boobs still small and tummy flat as a pancake! Still wearing tight jeans and tucked in shirts. Come on the entire series what about being pregnant, lets see that baby tummy rise.

Laughed once once once in the entire 50 episodes.

Do Not Waste Your Time Watching This Rubbish!

See how the others live
DUSOY-9629926 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The storyline deals with various things most people in the West take for granted. Cheating on a girlfriend that you already know hates cheaters is a definite no no. Then telling her to go and have an abortion when she tried to reconcile even with his Cheating on her is a definite no no, regardless of whether he was indirectly informed. The pain inflicted on the FL by the society, especially her own immediate family, who see single parenting as the greatest sin on earth is intense. Then deal with the pain of the ML, the extent he has to go to in order to avoid arranged marriage and be accepted by his step father's family even though he was adopted well over 2 decades. The other side characters, like the older step brother with infertility problems and the successful step sister who puts career before marriage are mostly issues of no concern in the western world. I believe the poor rating is by people looking for Holywood style drama, this isn't one. Some characters are a bit over the top reason for the 9 but overall the story is all about society dealing with single parenting and how someone can still find love and support despite their shortcomings.

Hoping this isn't the real deal
geewhiz4626 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am on ep 5 and struggling.

The ML's is from a rich family dominated by a horrendous grandmother who, for some reason, does not want him to inherit the family business. The ML doesn't want it anyway - he doesn't want to get married and wants to live his own life. His only support is his mother who is deeply unhappy living in the same house as the horrible granny - her husband doesn't seem to be of any support to her and when the ML defies granny (who has informed him that he will be married to a woman of her choice within a month) it creates a crisis during which the ML's mom demands a divorce.

Meanwhile - the FL has been cheated on and dumped by her boyfriend who is in love with the woman that granny wants the ML to marry.

She is pregnant by him and doesn't know what to do.

She has many coincidental contacts with the ML. She is the breadwinner for the family - despite there being three other perfectly fit adults that could contribute.

I find the comedic moments very childish and unfunny and they sit oddly against a story of abortion. The plot drags on interminably with pointless conversations and incidents.

It makes me wonder if all rich Asian families are so horrible - treating their children like commodities who aren't entitled to a life of their own.

I sincerely hope not.

The FL overacts on occasion and doesn't seem to have a very expressive face. The ML is ok - he just isn't given much to work with. The FL's mother and the would be brides mother are equally hateful and annoying - but the queen of hatred is the granny.

If you like slow uneventful dramas then I guess you might tolerate this one. I couldn't.

The start was intriguing but OMG.. It drags and drags
deepikatraveller10 November 2023
The show could have been made into a crisp 10-20 episodes. It meander all over the place with ridiculous plot twists.

My life has been one of plot twists and normally, I enjoy twists and turns, but this show borders on absurdity with irritating and immature plot twists. Acting abilities of the female lead- 🙄 With 30+ year olds, having serious mommy hangups....

I am an Asian and I am confident that the era this drama aims to cover is so over the top and so not credible.

Why did I watch 35 episodes? I was simply amazed that it was so poorly scripted and wanted to see where it would go. Alas 35 episodes is all ican deal with. And 35 hours of my life wasted.

Excruciating to watch
caroldilse28 August 2023
I did not realize I would be watching a protracted soap opera when I started this Kdrama. Fifty episodes are WAY too many! Although I found the first few episodes intriguing, the subsequent installments became more and more melodramatic. In fact, the quality of the writing deteriorated so profoundly that I felt I would have to be a masochist to watch every episode.

The lead actress looks so pathetic most of the time it's difficult to watch. And it's difficult to imagine that the lead actor is actually maintaining a medical practice with all his absenteeism. Plus, the villains are completely despicable, with very little nuance to their performances.

Last, but not least, the soundtrack is overheated to the point it is reminiscent of the dramatic accompaniments of silent movies. Ugh!
