I like Call the Midwife. It's had its ups and downs and was wondering after last season if it wasn't time to stop calling the midwife. BUT this season has been better than many and tonight's episode--had me in tears especially with Fred's situation. He and Violet had me really misty-eyed. Am glad it turned out the way it did; otherwise, I would have lost it. Everyone played their parts perfectly. Loved, loved Violet's two campaign speeches. I wish all campaign speeches were as true and motivational as hers. Only one complaint: there are too many characters and stories in the episodes. Keep focusing in Trixie.

Better, but...

Toothless. That would be my review of the first two episodes from the 13th series of this show.
The format looks tired and it's suffering from the same syndrome that 'Heartbeat' went through back in the day- it's now become far too twee and toothless.
This 3rd outing was better, but again the main reason for this was because they went down one of their two tried and tested storylines - make out a main character is about to die.
It's been done so many times now that you almost imagine a leaderboard on the wall where they check whose turn it is to potentially face the Grim Reaper next.
It's well-written, it's well executed, but wouldn't something new be lovely. Just once.
