Samantha Weinstein, a Canadian actress since childhood who played high school student Heather in the 2013 remake of Carrie, has died. She was 28.
Weinstein died May 14 at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto after a battle with ovarian cancer. James Crammond, her agent at Noble Caplan Abrams in Toronto, said Weinstein worked up until May 4, doing an animation voice session.
“A trouper to the end. We all miss her terribly,” Crammond told The Hollywood Reporter.
A photo was posted on Weinstein’s Instagram page with the caption: “After two and a half years of cancer treatment, and a lifetime of jet-setting around the world, voicing a plethora of cartoon animals, making music, and knowing more about life than most people ever will, she is off on her next adventure.”

New Delhi, April 11 (Ians) While analysing offers of malicious apps on Google Play for sale on the Darknet, experts have discovered that malicious mobile apps and store developer accounts are being sold for up to $20,000, a new report showed on Tuesday.
Every year a wide range of malicious apps are deleted on Google Play only after victims have been infected. Cybercriminals gather on the Darknet — to buy and sell Google Play malicious apps, and additionally functions to upgrade and even advertise their creations, according to the cybersecurity firm Kaspersky.
“On Darknet, we found messages from cybercriminals complaining how it is now much harder for them to upload their malicious apps to official stores. However, this also means that they will now come up with much more sophisticated circumvention schemes, so users should stay alert and carefully check which apps they are downloading,” said Alisa Kulishenko, security expert at Kaspersky.

I love Jonathan Frakes! He’s best know for his role on Star Trek: The Next Generation, but I also enjoyed his time as the host of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.
Today we have a great clip to share with you from a German television series called How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast), which came to Netflix this past May. Frakes plays himself in an episode titled, “Life’s Not Fair, Get Used to It.”
In this episode, he's hosting a show called X-Factor: The Unfathomable, which is much like Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, and in it he’s explaining how the Darknet works and in the process he goes on a tangent where he hilariously curses robots, dropping the F-Bomb in the process.
This is a fun and different kind of light that we get to see Frakes in and I dig it. Enjoy the video!

Start looking for higher ground, because the pilot episode for the potential new Tremors series is digging closer to the surface. Following the announcement in June that Syfy had ordered a pilot episode of a new Tremors series from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Television, it's now been revealed that Vincenzo Natali is lined up to direct.
Deadline reports the news about Natali's involvement, revealing that the filmmaker behind Cube, Splice, and Haunter has been "tapped to direct" the Tremors pilot episode starring Kevin Bacon, who will reprise his role as handyman-turned-hero Valentine “Val” McKee.
In addition to feature films, Natali has an impressive list of TV directorial credits to his name, having worked behind the camera on Darknet, Hemlock Grove, The Returned, Hannibal, Wayward Pines, Westworld, The Strain, and American Gods.

Some of the biggest days on the calendar are viewed through a dark lens in the new horror anthology Holidays. Featuring a plethora of intriguing characters, one of the film’s standouts is Andrew Bowen’s performance as Reggie: an unconventional serial killer looking for his next victim on New Year’s Eve. Following Holidays’ world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival (and VOD debut) and ahead of its April 22nd theatrical release, we caught up with Bowen for our latest Q&A feature.
Andrew, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, and congratulations on your excellent work in Holidays. What attracted you to this film and the role of Reggie in the “New Year’s Eve” segment?

This April’s VOD offerings are a strong and eclectic bunch, including one of my favorite films out of the 2015 SXSW Film Festival, The Invitation, which arrives on digital platforms April 8th.
For you Norman Reedus fans out there, IFC releases the road thriller Sky, in which he plays a supporting role, on April 15th. The latest horror anthology, Holidays, makes its VOD bow on the same day, courtesy of Vertical Entertainment and Xyz Films, and if you dig Edgar Allan Poe adaptations, then you have The Tell-Tale Heart to look forward to on April 5th.
Other notable VOD titles for April 2016 include The Girl in the Photographs, Pandemic, The Forest, and 13 Cameras.

There’s a fun looking horror anthology film coming out soon called Holidays. The movie is described as a “uniquely dark” film that puts an “original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time. The film challenges our folklore, traditions and assumptions, making Holidays a celebration of the horror on those same special days’ year after year.”
There’s a lot of great talent that came together to create this movie. The directors involved with the project are Kevin Smith (Tusk), Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), Scott Stewart (Dark Skies), Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim), Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact), Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and Anthony Scott Burns (Darknet).

William Shatner, Krampus, and zombie elves come together in A Christmas Horror Story, a festive and frightening holiday horror anthology that makes its world premiere tonight at the 2015 Fantasia International Film Festival.
There’s trouble at the North Pole at the outset of A Christmas Horror Story. We’re introduced to a weary and bloodied Santa Claus in the reindeer stable before backtracking 12 hours and stepping into the town limits of Bailey Downs—the same place where werewolves roamed in Ginger Snaps.
It’s Christmas Eve and radio DJ Dan (William Shatner) is cozied up behind the mike at the studio, ringing in his beloved holiday with spiked eggnog and tinsel-themed tunes. Elsewhere in town, three teenagers sneak into the basement of a school where a grisly murder-by-crucifixion happened one year previously. Also out and about are two families—one that encounters mystical evil in the forest and another that runs across the vengeful Krampus.

Filmmaker Vincenzo Natali made a name for himself among genre fans with his debut feature Cube, making the transition from years of storyboard work on shows such as Beetlejuice and The Adventures of Tintin. Earlier this year, however, Natali made a move away from theatrical content, as his first feature since 2009′s Splice, titled Haunter, saw a release to On-Demand platforms concurrently with a limited run on the big screen. Now Natali has made a more concrete shift, with the tv series Darknet. Working with producer Steve Hoban, best known for Ginger Snaps, the first episode of the series has been released online ahead of the show’s premiere in January, and can be seen below.

Cube and Splice director Vincenzo Natali wants to give you a Halloween treat. Natali has been one of the driving forces behind Darknet - a sort of hybrid television and web series - and the first episode of the series (directed by Natali himself) is now available online for free viewing. The prototype season of Darknet consists of six episodes that weave together bite-sized servings of urban horror. These episodes will appear exclusively in Canada on Super Channel, and segments will be made available to fans at the Super Channel and Darknet websites. Darknet offers snippets of people's lives being interrupted by vivid instances of unexpected violence or shocking strangeness. Shot in a visceral style that cranks up the creep factor, viewers become part of...

From Blood and Donuts and Ginger Snaps to Splice and, his latest, Haunter, producer Steve Hoban has been a staple in the Canadian horror scene since the mid Nineties.
He’s now working again with director Vincenzo Natali on a new experimental web series called Darknet that should be making its way onto television here in the States in the near future. For now, as of 12:01am this morning, fans can watch the first installment over at Darknetfiles.com. And, believe me, it’s worth checking out. Consisting of interweaving storylines and connected characters in different instances of urban horror, the first episode runs about 25 minutes and features some really solid, well-crafted moments. Just before the debut, Hoban was kind of enough to speak with us for a few minutes to talk about the series.

Directed by Vincenzo Natali ("Splice"), the pilot below is for "Darknet," an intriguing new horror anthology series that will air on Canada's Super Channel and on the website darknetfiles.com. Described as being made up of "snippets of people's lives being interrupted by vivid instances of unexpected violence or shocking strangeness," "Darknet" recalls browsing on a web site full of strange, sinister material, the episode below consisting of interwoven short horror stories. It also brings to mind "V/H/S" in its bringing in of different directors, in this case Natali's "Splice" producer Steve Hoban (making his directorial debut in the second episode), Brett Sullivan ("Orphan Black"), Rodrigo Gudiño ("The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh") and newcomers Anthony Scott Burns and Jeremy Ball. Natali, Pascal Trottier, Doug Taylor ("Splice"), James Kee, Randall Cole ("388 Arletta Ave") and Sarah Larsen are the writers. The first season of "Darknet" will begin airing on.
