Oscar-winning writer-producer Akiva Goldsman and his Weed Road are partnering with Mattel, Inc. and Universal Pictures to develop a live-action theatrical Monsters High film, based on the multimedia franchise of the same name.
We’re told that Goldsman is only producing, not writing, so the assignment remains open for now.
First introduced via a line of dolls in 2010, Monster High centers around a fictional high school attended by the teenage children of famous monsters. These characters, such as Draculaura (daughter of Dracula), Frankie Stein (daughter of Frankenstein’s monster), Clawdeen Wolf (daughter of the Werewolf) and Cleo de Nile (daughter of the Mummy), are designed to reflect the diverse and unique offspring of classic monster figures. Each brings their own personality, style, and background to the Monster High universe, creating a rich tapestry of monster heritage and high school drama.

Jeopardy! sparked the ire of country music fans last Thursday (May 30) when a clue about the song “Life Is a Highway” was credited to the band who covered the track rather than the originators. Many viewers are saying that the show got it wrong. The clue came under the category “Songs in the Key of Life” and read, “In the title of a Rascal Flatts’ song, ‘Life Is’ this type of road.” Current champion Adriana Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, buzzed in with the correct answer, “What is ‘A Highway?” adding $400 to her total. However, some viewers were annoyed the show credited the song to Rascal Flatts instead of Tom Cochrane, the Canadian singer-songwriter and musician best known as the frontman for the rock band Red Rider, who wrote and recorded the original version of the song in 1991. The song became Cochrane’s first major solo hit after...

The Mad Max films by George Miller created a new revolution in cinema and cemented the director’s place as one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers alongside the likes of George Lucas who also pioneered an iconic franchise with Star Wars. One celebrity who played a big part in Miller’s success was Charlize Theron who starred in the pivotal role of Furiosa in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Theron who impressed audiences and critics with her edgy and action-packed performance in the film, was also instrumental in how her character was envisioned and developed from a physical standpoint. It was her inputs regarding the final look of Furiosa and her dismissal of the original ideas for the character that ultimately made the difference.

High-octane action sequences, ultra-stylized character design, which contributed to the creation of a dystopian fashion of its own, stunt-heavy spectacles, and enormous set pieces—these are just a few of the aspects that have made Mad Max a cult classic franchise for the last forty years. However, more than anything else, the appeal of the customized, modded-out vehicles, blazing through the deserted landscape and exemplifying an unmatched vigor, is what gave the franchise its iconic status not only among gearheads but also among general viewers as well. Irrespective of what futuristic tech advancements contemporary movies are able to showcase, there is just something raw, wild, and uber-cool about the fine-tuned mean machines of Mad Max movies – growling and revving up to take on each other – which will never get old.

Anya Taylor-Joy took upon the role of Furiosa in the spin-off and prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, titled Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The film is the fifth overall franchise and focuses on the titular character which was originally played by Charlize Theron. After Charlize Theron’s exceptional performance as Furiosa, all eyes were on Anya Taylor-Joy to see how she would live up to her predecessor.

While both the film and Anya Taylor-Joy received praise from the critics, it looks like the film still has a long way to go to prove itself at the box office. Surprisingly, Furiosa has become the film to have the lowest opening for a Memorial Day movie in over forty years.

When the follow-up to a commercially and financially successful film is announced – whether a sequel, prequel, or spin-off – the usual question arises: why? Why not let the originally planned movie stand alone in peace? Is there a need or even enough story to create another film in the same fictional world? What will this new installment have to offer? The questions are numerous, but in the end, they will disappear if Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga meets the tremendous anticipation of the general public and critics worldwide.

After a high-profile debut at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has started off its North American box office run with $3.5 million in Thursday previews.
The prequel to Max Max: Fury Road hopes to win Memorial Day weekend with $40 million-$45 million for the four days but will have to battle a subdued moviegoing marketplace. So far, Furiosa is doing comparable business to Fury Road, which earned $3.7 million in previews on its way to a three-day gross of $45.4 million.
The new film sees Anya Taylor-Joy play Imperator Furiosa, a character made famous by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth also stars.
The other big Memorial Day opener is Sony’s The Garfield Movie, which took in a solid $1.9 million, a solid start for a family film.
Garfield is tracking to open in the $30 million to $35 million range thanks to the demand for movies playing to younger kids.

“Who broke the world?” asks graffiti scrawled across the room where Immortan Joe locked up his “wives” in Mad Max: Fury Road. Fury Road and each of its three predecessors argue pretty persuasively that the answer is men like Immortan Joe: power hungry people whose actions lead to war and economic disaster.
But an interesting fan theory poses another culprit, one whose breaking made the world of Mad Max: Max Rockatansky, the heroic road warrior portrayed by Mel Gibson and Tom Hardy. According to this idea, the policeman Max’s mind broke down after the events of the first movie in 1979, and everything that’s happened since exists in his wild imagination.

Jake Gyllenhaal had a show-stopping “Saturday Night Live” monologue for its Season 49 finale, literally breaking out into song with a Boyz II Men spoof of “End of the Road.”
“We’ve come to the end of the road, it’s the last episode. Time to say goodbye, season 49 — you’ll be 50 soon,” the actor sang alongside impromptu bandmates Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, Punkie Johnson and Devon Walker.
Riffing on the Grammy-winning R&b act’s 1993 Motown Records single, the highlight of the bit came with Gyllenhaal’s impassioned bridge where he listed all the hosts Lorne Michaels asked to come host for the Season 49 finale before him.
“They asked Pedro Pascal but he wasn’t around. Zendaya said no ’cause she be out of time. Even asked Gosling to come back again, just hosted three shows ago!” Gyllenhaal, capitalizing off his previously Tony Award-nominated singing chops, belted.

After spectacularly stealing the show with her immaculate portrayal of Agatha Harkness in the fan-favorite WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn is all set to reprise her role in her own soon-to-hit-the-screens action series alongside Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal. That being said, details about the first trailer of this upcoming show have also been revealed recently along with the series’ seemingly final title.
Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision.
Needless to say, Hahn and Plaza most certainly had viewers seated at the edge of their seats when the trailer (yet to go online) showed both of their characters in the most unexpected ways, building up even more anticipation among fans for the same. As for the title which has been changed multiple times previously, for now, it seems to be standing still at Agatha All Along.

One of the most legendary pieces of an iconic role almost going to a different actor is when Tom Selleck was initially offered the lead as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. He famously nailed his audition (which you can watch here) and was offered the part. However, he had just shot the pilot for Magnum P.I. and when that show was picked up, his opportunity to play the whip-wielding archeologist slipped through his fingers. He eventually got to star in his own period adventure movie in 1983, High Road to China, which is a bit of an unseen gem.
Selleck, who’s never had particularly sour grapes over the casting, writes about his shot at playing Indy in detail in his new memoir, “You Never Know:, lavishing praise on Spielberg, Lucas, Ford, and overall proving to be a good sport about the whole affair. Yet, one thing...

The Maestro was one of the creepiest villains Doctor Who has ever had.
On paper, they seem like a ridiculous creature. They went to 1963 to steal all the music from the world, starting with the most influential rock band in history.
Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2 took the Doctor and Ruby to Abbey Road to save the world by inspiring the Beatles while defeating an evil spirit, and it was as scary as it was fun.
The Abbey Road Sequences Lived Up To The Hype
When the Doctor Who Season 1 trailer came out, this was the story I was most excited about, and I was not disappointed one bit.
We didn't get to hear any real Beatles music—that would have probably cost a fortune in licensing fees—so instead, we got that musical number about there always being a twist at the end of the story and some weird pseudo-songs courtesy of the Maestro.

Filmmaker Stefon Bristol’s 2019 debut See You Yesterday (Netflix) demonstrated the filmmaker’s deft ability to blend tones and legibly render a complex time-travel story injected with social consciousness and the Black experience. Bristol and co-screenwriter Felicia Bailey deservedly took home the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay in 2020. Now with his sophomore feature Breathe (distributed by Warner Brothers), the NY-based Spike Lee protege continues his ambitious project of telling Black-cenetered sci-fi stories on an indie film budget.
Beginning with a Black List-approved original screenplay by Doug Simon, Bristol was encouraged by producers to put his own stamp on the material, resulting in the change of setting from post-apocalyptic upstate New York to post-apocalyptic Flatbush. Bristol’s updated vision also attracted the film’s stellar cast, which includes Jennifer Hudson, Milla Jovovich, Qvenzhané Wallis, Sam Worthington, Common and more.

It is fair to say that in its later years, George Miller‘s Mad Max franchise truly has become a saga. The term is used now boldly and often in the marketing for Furiosa, a film which marks the 79-year-old filmmaker’s fifth sojourn into the glories and horrors of the Wasteland. Yet what once was a series of standalone adventures in the life of Max Rockatansky and his post-apocalyptic travails has become something altogether grander thanks to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. For it was in this film that Miller introduced viewers to a new and instantly iconic protagonist, the Master of the War Rig and Scourge of the Citadel, Imperator Furiosa (played unforgettably by Charlize Theron).
By the end of the movie, it was Furiosa’s triumph that stuck with viewers as she ascended to the Citadel’s throne of power, promising a new and hopefully fairer matriarchal...

World War II was still raging in May 1944. The allied invasion of Normandy — aka D-Day — was just around the corner on June 6th. Americans kept the home fires burning and escaped from the global conflict by going to the movies. Two of the biggest films of the year, Leo McCarey’s “Going My Way” and George Cukor’s “Gaslight,” recently celebrated their 80th anniversaries.
Actually, “Going My Way” had a special “Fighting Front” premiere on April 27th: 65 prints were shipped to battle fronts and shown “from Alaska to Italy, and from England to the jungles of Burma.” The sentimental comedy-drama-musical arrived in New York on May 3rd.
And it was just the uplifting film audiences needed. Bing Crosby starred as Father O’Malley, a laid-back young priest who arrives at a debt-ridden New York City church that is run by the older, set-in-his ways Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald). The elder...

George Miller is the master of the modern myth. His sprawling "Mad Max" franchise now includes five feature films, novelizations, a comic book series, and two video games — all helping expand a post-apocalyptic Wasteland loaded with lore, characters, and laws different from our own. "Furiosa" serves as a prequel to "Fury Road," but a continuation of the story started in the first "Mad Max" film from 1979. As an audience, we know where Imperator Furiosa's story ends up, but "Furiosa" will show us how she got there.
One of the hardest things about making a prequel is ensuring that there are still stakes to the story at hand, knowing that what comes after has already been established. Sometimes it works, like with "The Hunger Games: The Battle of Songbirds & Snakes," but more often than not, the delivery is more akin to "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," "Dumb and Dumberer," or depending on who you ask,...

Over the years, the Doctor has met all kinds of legendary cultural and societal figureheads across his Tardis travels: Vincent Van Gogh, Charles Dickens, Rosa Parks, William Shakespeare, and Agatha Christie, to name but a few. But he’s never met the Fab Four – until now. The new series of Doctor Who – the first full series to feature Ncuti Gatwa’s take on the iconic Time Lord, with showrunner Russell T Davies returning to the (galli)fray – will feature an episode titled 'The Devil's Chord', in which the Doctor rock out with The Beatles in Abbey Road. And it’s an idea that’s been a long time coming.
As Davies tells Empire – in a major new joint interview with Gatwa to celebrate the show’s latest regeneration – the notion of doing a Beatles episode has always hit a certain stumbling block. But, that in itself became a source of inspiration.

There’s a moment in “Road House,” at a low point for Jake Gyllenhaal’s haunted ex-UFC fighter turned bouncer Dalton, where he’s been slapped around by crazed mob enforcer (Conor McGregor) and is ready to give up and leave. McGregor watches him go with a bloodthirsty grin (plus a lot of actual blood) on his face and says, “There’s something wrong with you. Me too.”
It’s a threat, a nod of respect, and a bit of a thesis for how the film’s action works. There’s something wrong (in the best way) with everyone in “Road House,” from the stars to the stunt team to director Doug Limon and cinematographer Henry Braham, who designed his own handheld gimbal that looks like a robotic arm and responds like a Steadicam’s stabilizers but is able to be thrown around a speedboat (presumably along with the...

Ever since the blockchain was introduced to the public, there has been significant interest in movies that discuss the subject. Over the last few years, the entertainment sector has produced several films and documentaries about blockchain-based assets like cryptocurrencies and their effect on the global economy.
It’s understandable why people want to learn more about cryptocurrencies, considering that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and similar assets have revolutionized how people pay and invest. This category of assets has witnessed an explosion in popularity, and both beginner and seasoned investors have shown interest in adding them to their portfolios.
Filmmakers couldn’t miss the opportunity to deliver content that meets people’s interests, so they took the plunge and created shows that discuss the potential and implications of blockchain-based assets. While some of them show the reasons behind the rapid growth of Bitcoin price Usd, others discuss the stories behind the creation of famous cryptocurrencies.

When director George Miller needed to fill the role of Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road, he turned to actor Hugh Keays-Byrne, who had previously played the villainous Toecutter in the original Mad Max. Sadly, Keays-Byrne passed away in 2020, before Miller could get the prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga into production – so in this movie, which is set to reach theatres on May 24, the role of Immortan Joe is being played by Lachy Hulme. Hulme’s casting in the role was confirmed by Empire, and they also scored a great quote from Hulme about the scope of the film. He told them Furiosa is “David Lean, but with motorbikes instead of camels. When you see 4,000 custom-made motorbikes come over a hill, you shit your pants.“
Hulme pulls double duty in the Furiosa, as he also plays a character called Rizzdale Pell, who is “one of the gang members...

Over the course of their time in The Beatles, Paul McCartney’s bandmates grew increasingly frustrated with him. To them, McCartney’s perfectionism and insistence on controlling many aspects of the recording process was highly annoying. McCartney himself admitted that he could be a bit bossy to his bandmates. Still, he claimed that he tried to take a step back on Abbey Road but his bandmates didn’t want him to.
Paul McCartney said his bandmates wanted him to exert control over ‘Abbey Road’
Though it was not the last album the band released, the final time The Beatles got into the studio together was to record Abbey Road. The band fought bitterly while recording the White Album and Let It Be. As a result, McCartney vowed to be less overbearing with his bandmates on the latest album.

There are some key differences between the Dalton of Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 cult classic Road House and the Dalton of Doug Liman’s equally boisterous remake. To start, the stoic bouncer’s first name is now Elwood instead of John. He rolls into town — the Florida Keys, not Kansas City — on a Greyhound bus instead of in a new car. This Dalton walks everywhere, wearing down the soles of his cigar brown combat boots with each mile. His swagger is enhanced by a mellow kindness — at one point, a character compares him to Mr. Rogers (with a violent edge, of course).
What hasn’t changed all that much are Dalton’s motivations and his notoriety. When we meet the infamous man, played here with compelling restraint by Jake Gyllenhaal, his face is shrouded by his black hoodie. He saunters into an underground fight club with a menacing determination. The camera trails him,...

Update, 9:16Pm: Several sources have informed Deadline tonight that it was actually Conor McGregor’s manager who became dehydrated and passed out in the Paramount Theatre after the SXSW premiere of Amazon MGM’s Road House. That explains why McGregor was so upset in the moment as we witnessed.
McGregor ultimately found his way to the Road House afterparty, complete with honky tonk blues band, at Austin, TX’s Fair Market venue.

After saying he would not be attending the premiere of Road House out of protest, Doug Liman is in fact at the SXSW screening of his latest film, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
In January, Liman wrote an open letter voicing his displeasure that Amazon MGM would not be releasing the film in theaters, despite what he said were positive test screenings. He wrote at the time, “Amazon asked me and the film community to trust them and their public statements about supporting cinemas, and then they turned around and are using Road House to sell plumbing fixtures.”
In protest, he wrote that he would boycott the SXSW premiere. But on Friday evening, he was seated in the audience for the film’s debut.

Actors often talk about how freeing it is to play characters that live in the moment — a sentiment that “Poor Things” screenwriter Tony McNamara understands. In writing the character of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a woman who has an infant’s brain implanted in her body, McNamara says he was working with a blank slate.
“The fingerprints of childhood and society weren’t on her as a character,” McNamara tells Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “I’m writing someone who just greets experience in a really open, adventurous, optimistic [way]: ‘I wonder what it is. And I don’t have any preconceptions about how I should feel about it, how I should judge it. Anything. I’m just in a constant state of self-creation.’
“There is a kind of wish fulfillment in the movie,” he adds. “Like, What would my experience be if I could let go of all this stuff I carry around?...

Conor McGregor is an extremely loved and respected Mma fighter. While some may know him for his upcoming appearance in Jake Gyllenhall’s film, Road House, he has made a name for himself while fighting in the UFC, being a Featherweight and Lightweight Champion.
It is because of how loved and successful he is, that fans are distraught at the recently revealed lineup for the UFC 300.

While Dana White announced that McGregor will not be fighting until November this year, fans were hoping to persuade him through their support for the former champ. This, unfortunately, did not end up being the case as the fighters for the Main Event have been announced and McGregor’s name being missing is not a good sign.

After The Beatles broke up, John Lennon frequently spoke critically about the work he made with the band. He said he didn’t consider himself a fan of The Beatles and complained about his bandmates. He had harbored negative feelings about the band while they were still together. According to longtime Beatles producer George Martin, Lennon was visibly fed up while recording one of the band’s final albums.
John Lennon had problems with the final album The Beatles recorded
While Let It Be was the last album The Beatles released, they recorded it before Abbey Road. They recorded it in 1969, the same year Lennon announced he was leaving the band. According to Martin, Lennon’s fatigue with the group came through while recording Abbey Road.
“John got disenchanted with record production. He didn’t really approve of what I’d done or was doing,” Martin said in The Beatles Anthology.

It’s finally happened – another legend has achieved Egot status, with Elton John being only the 19th person to attain the much-desired acronym at this evening’s Emmy Awards. Now, I know what some of you are asking yourselves right now – what does Egot mean? It’s the acronym from the toppermost of the poppermost in the entertainment industry, meaning the person who attains Egot status has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. It was infamously coined by Miami Vice star Phillip Michael Thomas, who, as Emmy Host Anthony Anderson pointed out in his introduction this evening, never won any of the four awards (the closest he got was a Golden Globe nomination). The acronym became more widespread after getting name-checked on 30 Rock. Sadly, John was recovering from a knee operation, so he wasn’t there to accept the award in person.

Throughout their time as a group, The Beatles received praise for the way they pushed musical boundaries with their songs and albums. This has earned them a permanent place in the musical canon. As they were releasing songs, though, it occasionally brought them ridicule. While listening to a new Beatles song, a friend responded with disbelief. He thought it sounded like a joke.
Paul McCartney said friends couldn’t believe the sound of one Beatles song
In 1965, The Beatles released Rubber Soul. The album marked a shift for the band into more introspective, mature songs. When the band played one of the album’s songs, “Michelle,” for a friend, though, he responded with confusion.
