I Haven't seen the movies, but I still love this episode

This episode is amazing from it's premise of two musicals happening in two locations, to it's ending 3 minutes which are just really well done. The way the story is told is also unique, as we get plenty of humor from the fact two characters are giving different perspectives on what happened, overall a great episode of the show, and I hope we see more episodes of Gene making his own musical, with Courtney helping him of course, as they are a good team.

WoW! What an EXCELLENT Start of a season!
icelandknight24 April 2021
The school wants to put on a musical, Gene has had his heart of performing: "Die Hard the Musical", but they choose another one, proposed by Geneðs ex girlfriend's father. Of course Louise has a dastardly plan to help her brother make HIS dream come true; make some money; and revenge against Gene's ex girlfriend, who's father is a musician, which is an unfair advantage, when its supposed to be the kids that organize the musicals. With conflicting loyalties, not all goes according to plan... Excellent start of Season 5. Musical lovers will not be disappointed. (ps. I was in many school musicals as a kid. This may mean a slight bias. Hansel & Gretel (White Bird), Oliver! (3 bit parts: Workhouse Boy, Den Boy, & Knife Grinder), Pinocchio (Mr. Fox), Jesus Christ Superstar (Pontius Pilate)).

One of My Favorites!

This episode gets a rare 10/10 stars from me.

The song writers have definitely outdone themselves and must have had a great time putting this all together! The songs have the "play on words" instances that remind me of popular musicals. The lyrics "I'm Hans Gruber! Consider yourself Grubed!" made me laugh out loud. Well it's not Sondheim, but... One of my favorite things about the show in general is that in way too many cartoons or shows any kid who is the least bit "different" or quirky is made the object of ridicule and has few friends. The Belcher kids may be peculiar in their own way but they're rarely made fun of for it and have friends, although Louise would probably not admit it. Great show!

Overrated Musical/Season Premiere Episode?
landrumzachary9 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Considering how highly reviewed this episode is out of the whole series, this is probably going to be a bit of a controversial review. Please keep in mind that this review is 100% my opinion and I am not hating on anyone who has a different opinion from me. With that disclaimer out of the way, people seem to love this episode, but I do not understand why. In this episode, AKA the Season 5 premiere, we see Gene and Courtney (from the episode "The Unbearable Like-Likeness of Gene") fighting with each other via competing musicals. Gene's play is 'Die Hard: The Musical' and Courtney's play is 'Working Girl: The Musical.' Gene came up with the idea first, but Courtney steals Gene's idea and her father manipulates the staff of the school to overshadow Gene by making empty promises. Don't get me wrong. This episode is enjoyable and I really love the ending, but the road leading up to the ending really isn't that exciting because it feels kind of petty and is pretty boring. The ending where Gene and Courtney combine their two plays is very enjoyable and the definite highlight of the episode, it only makes up for SOME of the boring parts of the episode, in my opinion. It's definitely not a bad episode. It wouldn't make a worst episodes list (not by a long shot), but it wouldn't make a best episodes list, either. Overall, it's kind of a boring episode with an enjoyable ending. And I personally feel like the episode might be a tad bit overrated.
