It’s been almost two years since we last reported on Steven C. Miller‘s werewolf movie Year 2,starring Frank Grillo. The filmmaker has offered recent updates on social media, teasing that the long wait for action werewolf carnage is nearly over and that it appears to have a new title: Werewolves.
The premise for Werewolves is described as “a supermoon event caused a latent gene to turn everyone exposed to the moonlight into a werewolf for one night. Millions died—and now, the supermoon is back.”
Katrina Law (“NCIS”) stars alongside Grillo as the brilliant geneticist, Dr. Amy Chen, who goes on a dangerous journey with Grillo’s character to saved loved ones, against a ticking clock.
That setup sounds like The Purge: Anarchy but with werewolves, and we’re so in.

Although "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is probably the most widely beloved of them, a strong argument can be made that "The Last Crusade" is the real best entry in the Indiana Jones franchise. The duplicitous Elsa makes for perhaps the most compelling of Indy's love interests, and the introduction of Sean Connery as Indy's father paves the way for a more introspective look at Indiana as a person. "Temple of Doom" might technically be the only prequel in the series, but it's this third movie that seems most interested in exploring Indy's past.
The result is that this is the most intimate of the "Indiana Jones" movies, the one that cares the most about its main character's emotional journey. It's a choice that's reflected in the cinematography, which favors close-ups over the wider shots of the first two films. Some of the most memorable images of "Raiders" are...

Warning: references to self-harm follow.
"Gen V" is set at a school for superheroes ("Supes") and so naturally features a cast with a wide variety of powers. The most grotesque ability belongs to our lead, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair); she can telekinetically manipulate blood. So far, we've seen Marie wield her power as a weapon and a healing tool (she keeps someone with a sliced neck from bleeding out).
Marie's powers arrived, naturally, during her first period at age 12. Superpowers as a metaphor for puberty is nothing new (see Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man"). However, this is the cruel world of "The Boys" — Marie couldn't control her powers and accidentally killed her parents. Now, she also uses her powers as part of a self-harm ritual; she keeps a pocket knife handy and is shown repeatedly slicing open her hand palms to pull blood out from the wounds.

When Steven Speilberg's ultra-slick pulp film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was released in 1981, it was a massive success. Spielberg, following the template laid out by George Lucas a few years earlier on "Star Wars," made an old-world 1930s adventure serial with modern filmmaking techniques and storytelling tropes, transforming the simple, low-budget glories of the past into the marvels of the present. In many ways, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is a better sequel to "Star Wars" than "The Empire Strikes Back." I can imagine a world wherein "Star Wars," rather than direct sequels, spawned an anthology series wherein each chapter was a modern filmmaker doing their take on the pulp adventures of the past.
But that's not the way Hollywood works, as sequels are a more natural outcropping of a single success. As such, just as "Raiders" was raking in fistfuls of money, Lucas, the film's producer and story writer,...

Coming June 8 to Peacock is “Based on a True Story,” a true-crime comedy thriller about a couple (Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina) who decide that getting involved in a murder will somehow save their marriage. All eight episodes will be released at once. This comical look at true crime is sure to entertain audiences, whether they are fans of the genre or not.
Check out the trailer for “Based on a True Story”:
On June 2, Peacock will premiere the new film “Shooting Stars.” The sports movie tells the story of LeBron James and how his high-school team at Akron’s St. Vincent/St. Mary High School became the No. 1 basketball team in the country. Of all the things to finally cause Indiana Jones — the man who specializes in barely escaping life-or-death situations — to falter, it was a telepathic crystal skull. 2008's "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull" might have made close to $800 million at the box office and received moderately positive reviews, but the film's legacy is undeniable: The fourth Indy film was a low point for the revered saga. Even Steven Spielberg, who's directed every entry in the franchise thus far, claimed he didn't like the story any more than we did and shared fans' incredulity at Indy surviving a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge.
Much of the disappointment likely stemmed from the fact that audiences had waited 19 years for the return of Harrison Ford's globe-traveling archeologist. With a build-up like that, "Crystal Skull" was always at risk of delivering an anti-climactic experience. Still, star Harrison Ford...

Long before Tom Cruise snapped his ankle in half jumping from rooftop to rooftop while making "Mission: Impossible — Fallout," Harrison Ford was putting his body on the line for our entertainment.
There's a long history of lead actors getting injured on movie sets while trying to capture something truly amazing for the viewing audience. Silent star Wallace Reid was famously injured in a train stunt gone wrong in 1919's "The Valley of the Giants" to the point where he ended up addicted to his pain management treatment (at that time the options were morphine or to just grin and bear it). That addiction would end up prematurely killing the young cinema star.
The point is Hollywood has a long history of stars putting their physical health on the line for the good of the picture and one notable incident that isn't talked about nearly as much as it should be...

Indiana Jones will soon return in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," another globe-trotting entry in the Indy saga that everyone's not really sure about because of a certain Crystal Skull of Akator. Still, franchise star Harrison Ford isn't worried, and has no hard feelings about "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." In fact, he's having a great time of late, forging a new prestige TV career by starring in the Apple TV+ series "Shrinking" alongside Paramount's popular "1923."
Some 40 odd years after Indiana Jones' 1981 debut, 80-year-old Ford can be found weathering blizzards on horseback and spending 10-hour days in the bitter Montana climate for his Paramount show. As Jacob Dutton, the Hollywood vet has shown a startling willingness to take on the physical demands of playing a rancher spending his twilight years protecting his family. But then, he's always preferred to perform as much of the on-screen action as he can.

HBO’s latest hit series The Last of Us now officially has a soundtrack for its first season, a massive, 66-song compilation of all the music scoring the post-apocalyptic tale. Check it out below.
After working on the original The Last of Us video game, composer Gustavo Santaolalla returns for the HBO series, joined by fellow artist David Fleming. In an upcoming interview with Consequence, Santaolalla describes his approach to the soundtrack, saying, “The process of adapting, it was more in a way like craftwork than actually a new creation, because the themes were there, those things are there, like the characters, it wasn’t about creating a new job, it wasn’t about finding what is interesting. For example, in seeing how Pascal and Bella, they’re different than the actors that played the voices, but at the same time, they keep the soul of the characters intact.”

Since the beginning of the Harry Potter franchise, fans have always wanted more. From the J.K. Rowling books came the movies, the Wizarding World theme park at Universal, Pottermore, and the Fantastic Beasts films. But one thing fans haven’t received? A long-awaited Mauraders prequel. Years ago, a Marvel actor was fan-cast as Harry’s dad, James Potter. But he’s since aged out of the role.
‘Harry Potter’ fans have wanted a Marauders prequel for years
I am open to any and all #HarryPotter content but what I really Want is a #Marauders prequel … let me see James, Sirius, Remus and Peter in school, younger #dumbledore, introduce some new characters, etc.

Since the beginning of the series, Harry Potter fans have subsisted on tidbits from the Marauders’ Era, which follows James Potter (Harry’s father), Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black throughout their time at Hogwarts in the 1970s.

Start revving your engines, because Nitro Stream Racing is coming.
That’s the name of the project currently being developed by Captain.tv. The Vc-backed team is known for creating games that are meant to be played on stream. Nitro, which will let streamers race against their viewers, will feature Captain.tv’s trademark interactivity.
Nitro has another feature that figures to make it a popular choice among streamers: It’s being co-designed, tested, and promoted by some of the biggest names on Twitch and YouTube. Ludwig, Quarter Jade, and NorthernLion are all working with Captain.tv on the project.
Those streamers owe their involvement in Nitro to Loaded. The management firm facilitated the Captain.tv collaboration through its nascent consultancy, Open World.
“We love to see Captain.tv partnering with content creators throughout the game’s lifecycle and starting early in development,” said Loaded VP of Game Developer Partnerships Monica Loya-Clarke.

This review contains spoilers for "The Bad Batch" Season 2, Episode 5 -- "Entombed."
A brand new episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" means a brand new adventure for Clone Force 99 (Dee Bradley Baker). This time, they are between missions and looking to repair their ship. While hunting for parts in the junkyard with Wrecker, Omega (Michelle Ang) finds a star compass. When she takes it back to Cid's, the archeologist, treasure hunter, and pirate Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes) is there and takes an interest.
Convinced the compass is a rare find and will lead to valuable treasure, she's able to persuade the Bad Batch to accompany her to a distant, uncharted planet in the Kaldar Trinary System to seek the treasure. From there, they follow clues that take them to an ancient relic of a civilization that predates the Republic and the Jedi, but it holds a terrible secret they don't fully understand.

Even critically acclaimed icons have bouts of insecurity. For Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler, Tinta y Tiempo was an album that “almost didn’t happen.” In the past, the Oscar-winning veteran had stepped out in the world and shared bits and pieces of unfinished tunes with fellow artists — something that had been a vital part of his songwriting process. But confined to his home in Spain during the pandemic, he found himself without that nurturing feedback to support him, and many songs remained incomplete. “Two years went by, and I still couldn’t finish them,...

Tusken Raiders have been a fixture of the "Star Wars" universe from the very beginning, as the desert dwellers appear in the opening act of the original 1977 film. Given that we've spent a lot more time on Tatooine as of late -- thanks to shows like "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett" -- that also means we've spent more time getting to know the Tuskens. But what does it take to voice one of these fixtures of Luke Skywalker's home planet? Mostly, it's about not blowing your voice out.

"I have quite the weekend in store for you…" Paramount Movies has unveiled an official trailer for a freaky horror thriller Margaux, the latest bland creation from B-movie action director Steven C. Miller. Yet another new "Artificial Intelligent turns against people" uninspired thriller, especially one that's about a smart home that turns deadly (why this again?). A group of college friends rent a smart house for a weekend of partying. Later, they start to realize that "Margaux", the house's super advanced AI system, has sinister designs for them. The cast features Madison Pettis, Vanessa Morgan, Richard Harmon, Lochlyn Munro, Jedidiah Goodacre, Phoebe Miu, Jordan Buhat, Brittany Mitchell, and Louis Lay. This is another of these "how does this junk keep getting made" kind of movies. It looks so cheesy and forgettable. ›››

4K discs are selling like hotcakes so it’s only natural for studios to give Home Theater fanatics the biggest vintage blockbusters. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s hyper-efficient, no-loitering juggernaut is a return to the joys of serial action thrills, one ‘did you see that?’ bravura sequence after another. Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones is pitted against Paul Freeman’s villainous Belloq, and the might of Jehovah combats the Nazis. Accept the proposition that Adolf Hitler was ‘nuts about the occult’ and everything else will make logical sense. The picture hasn’t dated at all — it overflows with Gee-Whiz excitement that makes Marvel exploits play like weak tea.

The recent Knights of X #1 marks a new chapter in the ongoing saga of Betsy Braddock, the mutant telepath once known as Psylocke of the X-Men and currently serving as Captain Britain. The final issues of Excalibur saw the conquest of Otherworld, Marvel’s version of the realm of faerie magic, at the hands of Merlyn and King Arthur. This cut Otherworld off from Krakoa, effectively isolating Betsy and the rest of the Captain Britain Corps there. Luckily, she’s got some help! Roma, Merlyn’s daughter and a friend to the X-Men from days past, gives Betsy the chance to assemble a team for a proper Arthurian quest to find the artifact known as the Siege Perilous.
There’s just one question newer readers may be wondering…

Steven Spielberg was in a nostalgic mood this week during the opening night of this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival.
Speaking about “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” which celebrates its 40th anniversary in this year and was the opening night selection by TCM to kickoff the 2022 event, Spielberg recalled how the project came together during production on “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
“I pretty much had worked out most of the story and I needed a writer to write with me or, hopefully, write it based on the story,” Spielberg said. Fortunately, star Harrison Ford had arrived on the “Raiders” set in Tunisia with his then-girlfriend, writer Melissa Mathison.
When Spielberg brought up collaborating, however, Mathison wasn’t so sure. “She said, ‘Well, I’m retired from writing. I don’t write anymore. I’m not interested in writing anymore, it’s too hard,” he explained. “I went to Harrison and said,...

As Frank Rossi in the Best Picture winner Coda, Troy Kotsur plays a Deaf father maintaining his connection to his hearing daughter (Emelia Jones). The role earned Kotsur not only praise but also a Best Picture Academy Award, becoming the first Deaf actor to earn the accolade. But before that, Kotsur made a different type of history, long, long, ago in a galaxy far, far away. In an interview from January 2020 with The Daily Moth, Kotsur shares his experience working on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and helping to develop the sign language used by the Tuskens.
Kotsur’s work appears in “The Gunslinger,” chapter five of The Mandalorian. The episode finds the titular character (Pedro Pascal) reluctantly agreeing to help young bounty hunter Toro Calican (Jake Cannavale) capture Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). While tracking Shand across the deserts of Tatooine, the pair arrives in Tusken-controlled territory. Where Calican suggests...

“Uncharted” is finally hitting the big screen.
After years of starts, stops, dead ends and speedbumps, the movie adaptation of the beloved PlayStation video games (published by Naughty Dog) is here. Tom Holland stars as young adventurer Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg as the more-seasoned pro Victor “Sully” Sullivan. It’s a rip-snorting, globe-trotting adventure with oversized action set pieces and a lot of genuine humor. And the man in charge of bringing all of that together is filmmaker Ruben Fleischer.
Fleischer has directed big films before, like “Venom” and the two “Zombieland” films, and he had to use all of his knowledge and experience on this one. (And he came on late too!) TheWrap spoke to Fleischer about what he wanted to maintain from the video game, what the potential pitfalls of video game adaptations can be, and whether he’s already thinking about a sequel.

Since the very first movie premiered in 1977, “Star Wars” has been a franchise with a clearly identifiable aesthetic: rusty armor, billowing capes and a retro vibe firmly entrenched in ’70s science fiction. Later iterations of the franchise would update or play with that look to varying extents, but “The Book of Boba Fett” miniseries on Disney Plus is a full-fledged resurgence of the original trilogy’s magic, thanks to the work of costume designer Shawna Trpcic.
A hardcore “Star Wars” fan, Trpcic first joined the franchise during season 2 of “The Mandalorian.”
In preparation for diving into the show’s spinoff “The Book of Boba Fett,” she studied the original making-of books that George Lucas created during production of the first movie, which provided templates for the original designers like production illustrator Ralph McQuarrie and costume designer John Mollo to follow. Then, she started working to create costumes that looked and...

Just when you thought you had gotten the last of the Tatooine sand out of your carpet, we’re back for “The Book of Boba Fett,” chapter two. The second episode of the Disney+ “Star Wars” series, titled “The Tribes of Tatooine,” inches the present day story forward while spending even more time exploring the mysterious bounty hunter’s past following his escape from the Sarlacc (in admittedly rousing fashion). We got some answers, we got some questions, and we got a whole lot of weird Tusken Raider noises. And probably the first drug freak-out scene in a “Star Wars” story? Let’s dive in!
Malice in the Palace Lucasfilm/Disney+
The episode opens with Fennec (Ming-Na Wen) walking one of the ninja assassins back to Jabba’s palace. Boba (Temuera Morrison) asks who sent him. The droid 8D8 (voiced by Matt Berry), who is supposed to be a torture...

The career of director Steven Spielberg has practically defined modern blockbusters, but he’s also been able to craft more personal films as well. Let’s rank Spielberg’s entire filmography from worst to best in a new photo gallery of his 32 theatrical features.
Spielberg’s reputation as a master entertainer came with the release of “Jaws,” his 1975 shark attack thriller. Made when he was just 29 years old, the film set box office records and made the summer safe for blockbusters again. Such following films as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977), “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (1982) cemented Spielberg’s ability to create spectacular amusements that brought audiences to their feet.

The National Film & Sci-Fi Museum opened its doors this August and I finally got around to visiting this weekend. The museum is located in Milton Keynes, right in the town centre. I still can’t believe the town where I was born and live is the home of the national anything. Let alone something I have an interest in!
It is good to see both a use of a space that was otherwise going to ruin and a new business venture coming to life during the pandemic. Before going into detail I can safely say the museum is well worth the price of admission. Being ‘film & sci-fi’ makes it much more encompassing of what is on display. I would be the first person to admit there are parts of sci-fi I just have no time for, so this was of benefit to me. Currently there are a lot of franchises...

The world premiere of Danis Goulet’s first feature, “Night Raiders,” in Berlin generated positive reviews and led to a U.S. sale to Samuel Goldwyn. But to the Toronto-based, Cree-Métis filmmaker it all felt a little abstract.
“I haven’t seen an audience reaction, so Toronto feels like the premiere,” she told Variety during a break from directing the Netflix thriller “Ivy,” which shot around Toronto this summer.
“Bringing ‘Raiders’ home is important because it talks about what’s happened here, in Canada, on this land,” added Goulet, referring to Canada’s residential school system — which operated from the 1870s to the 1990s and tore 150,000 Indigenous children from their families and cultures — and the discoveries this spring of unmarked graves of children at the sites of former schools.
Set in 2043 in a divided post-civil-war North America, “Raiders” follows a Cree woman (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers) who returns from the forest to...

At the past two Toronto festivals, features from a new wave of Indigenous filmmakers — notably Jeff Barnaby’s “Blood Quantum,” Tracey Deer’s “Beans,” Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers’ “The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open” (co-directed with Kathleen Hepburn) —found acclaim and went on to connect with buyers and audiences beyond the borders of Canada.
Poised for similar traction, this year’s Toronto slate spotlights the past, present and future of Indigenous filmmaking across the festival’s public, industry and events programming. And just outside the festival frame, the Indigenous screen community is cued for non-stop action.
The Canadian government’s 2021 budget, unveiled in April, allocated $40.1 million over three years for the Indigenous Screen Office (Iso) to support screen-based content made by First Nations, Inuit and Métis creators — the largest investment in Indigenous screen sector since the launch of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (Aptn) in 1999. Karen Allen struck gold with her first major starring role in a studio film. Just 28 years old when she was cast in Steven Spielberg’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Allen wasn’t wholly unfamiliar with big-ticket fame — she’d made her debut in “Animal House” when she was 26 — but her role as Marion Ravenwood in the franchise-starting Indiana Jones film was still something new. Forty years since the making of the film, Allen remains a steadfast champion of the steely Marion, an enduring member of the (still-going!) franchise, and an insightful performer who keenly remembers the choices she made that turned Marion Ravenwood into the anti-“damsel in distress.”
On Wednesday, Allen will appear at a special event honoring the film’s 40th anniversary, held to benefit two local western Massachusetts arts organizations close to her heart: the Norman Rockwell Museum and the Berkshire International Film Festival. Has it really been 40 years already?...

Ever since launching his career in 2002 with the independent action-horror thriller, Dog Soldiers—a bracing, fresh werewolves-vs.-soldiers exercise—the writer and director Neil Marshall has been devoted to genre filmmaking. His second film, The Descent, is a generally acknowledged modern horror classic, and since then he’s branched out to post-apocalyptic action, historical thrillers and high fantasy before returning again to horror.
His sixth and latest film, The Reckoning, stars Charlotte Kirk (who co-wrote the script) as a young woman who is accused of witchcraft in northern England in 1665 after losing her husband to the Great Plague. With its period setting and story of unjust persecution and hysteria directed against women in particular, The Reckoning (which just premiered on Shudder) channels some of the old Hammer Studios vibe, as well as that of iconic British films on the same topic like Witchfinder General.

Exclusive: We have learned that Bruce Willis and John Travolta are starring together again for the first time in 27 years in the Chuck Russell-directed action pic Paradise City. Production starts this Monday in Maui, Hawaii.
Willis plays renegade bounty hunter, Ryan Swan, who must carve his way through the Hawaiian crime world to wreak vengeance on the kingpin, played by Travolta, who murdered his father. I’m told the project is billed as being similar to Miami Vice but with bounty hunters instead of cops. Thai actress and model Praya Lundberg has landed the lead female role.
Though Paradise City technically reps the fourth time that Willis and Travolta are billed on a movie together, they only worked onscreen in the 1994 Oscar-winning $214M-grossing Quentin Tarantino movie Pulp Fiction respectively as boxer Butch Coolidge and mob guy Vincent Vega. Check out their scene below from that pic. Prior to that...

Exclusive: Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. rights to Night Raiders, a dystopian sci-fi feature executive produced by Oscar winner Taika Waititi.
The debut feature of writer/director Danis Goulet is set in 2043, exploring a future in which a military occupation controls disenfranchised cities in post-war North America. In this world, where children are considered property of the regime which trains them to fight, a desperate Cree woman joins an underground band of vigilantes and infiltrates a State children’s academy, so that she can get her daughter back. A parable about the experience of the Indigenous peoples of North America, Night Riders is billed as “a female-driven sci-fi drama about resilience, courage and love.”
Night Raiders stars Elle-Maija Tailfeathers (Blood Quantum), Brooklyn Letexier-Hart (Burden of Truth), Alex Tarrant (800 Words), Amanda Plummer, Gail Maurice (The Twilight Zone) and Violet Nelson (The Twilight Zone...

The glitz and glamour of the casino are universally appealing. Many famous casino movies are still household names even in 2021, but they weren’t all made in Hollywood.
Asia has its own exciting casino scene, with entire cities dedicated to gambling tourism. With fate and fortune being such important concepts in Asian beliefs, it’s no surprise that there are many places across the continent built to test one’s luck. The eternal struggle to win big has been captured time and again in Eastern cinema, so let’s have a look at the most fabulous Asian films portraying Lady Luck.
God of Gamblers
Our list starts with an absolute Hong Kong classic. This movie came out during the boom of Hong Kong action films featuring gambling themes. Superstars Chow Yun-Fat and Andy Lau acted out the complex plot as heroes unforgiving to those who seek to cheat to get ahead.

When it comes to Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched list, there are a few things that you can usually find there no matter when you take a look at the chart. The first is obviously anything involving Adam Sandler in any capacity, the second is whatever high-profile original project has been recently released by the streamer, and for some reason, the third is wholly mediocre B-tier action movies.
For instance, Bruce Willis’ recent output has brought us one stinker after another, but his films typically perform well on the streaming service when they arrive. Marauders was in the Top 10 for a while, and although viewers probably instantly regretted their decision to check out Hard Kill, it still managed to attract a lot of eyeballs on Netflix. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper has been another big hit recently, but there’s also another actioner that’s dominating the charts right now and...

It’s been years since Bruce Willis cared about masking his boredom with the movies he’s nowadays cast in, but in spite of this, another of his mediocre recent efforts is maintaining a position in Netflix’s Top 10 list this week.
Marauders is a 2016 action thriller where a gang of bank robbers pull off a series of heists that each end in a specific fatality, with Willis playing the head of the banking conglomerate in whose branches each robbery took place. His presence is largely peripheral to the main story, it being almost an hour into the proceedings before his disconnected scenes actually link up with the core plot, but his utter lack of interest is clear in every moment he’s on screen. It might even be that he wasn’t given a full script, but just showed up on the days that he was scheduled to perform...

Wolverine #6 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Viktor Bogdanovic | Colourist: Matthew Wilson | Letters: Cory Petit
Right away I found it very annoying this didn’t pick up immediately with the rainbow bridge reveal of last issue. That all probably happened in a different comic. Wolverine #6 is after all part 3 of a 22 part story taking place over how many series? Despite all this baggage the issue works both as part of a larger story and more importantly as a Wolverine story. To top all that off I actually found it very accessible having not read any other X of Swords tie-ins. The issue follows to stories. The first of which is Wolverine and his quest for Muramasa. The second thread follows War and Pestilence of Four Horsemen of Apocolypse fame as they reaquiant themselves and introduce the readers to new villain Solem. Of the two I actually prefered the second non Wolverine centric story elements.

The first week of December saw a lot of people watching holiday films at home. Makes sense; ’tis the season, even in this dreadful year. There’s also little in the way of new titles as competition — and the one major film to debut, timed to the awards season, failed to gain traction.
“Mank,” David Fincher’s Netflix biopic of screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, is considered a leading Oscar contender but debuted to very little initial response. Available on Friday, it showed up at #10 Saturday (the first day it could chart), and has not reappeared since. The black-and-white film starring Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried didn’t gain the attention of other high-profile originals like “Da 5 Bloods,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and “Hillbilly Elegy,” all of which debuted at first or second. Bumping “Mank” from 10th place was the 2000 Adam Sandler comedy “Little Nicky.”

Dan Abrams is eager to turn a burgeoning interest in bourbon and whiskey into a new line of business.
The entrepreneur and legal journalist’s Abrams Media has acquired the spirts review site t8ke.review and will use it to launch Whiskey Raiders, a new online resource that Abrams says will appeal to both whiskey aficionados and novices. The site aggregates individual reviews from various whiskey sites and uses a proprietary algorithm to assign a score for each product, with an aim to making choosing a bottle that much easier. Abrams expects to launch an e-commerce component as part of the venture.
“This serves as a nice starting point for people,” says Abrams, in an interview. “It’s not the end point. The in-depth reviews are really important, and we are going to be promoting these other sites on our site, urging people to go read the reviews. But...

As this past week was the first week of December, Netflix got things rolling with the usual glut of new titles. It’s easy to miss everything that went up on the streaming giant over the past seven days, so we’ve compiled a handy recap of every single movie and TV show that dropped from Monday, November 30th to Sunday, December 6th. In total, that’s 58 new additions.
The 1st obviously delivered the bulk of the haul, serving up a ton of fresh films to keep you entertained as we begin the festive season. Among the highlights was the original Jurassic Park and one of its sequels and if you missed them at the beginning of the week, you can also catch the likes of romcom 50 First Dates, animated film Monster House and the one and only E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. As for TV shows, all of Stargate was likewise added the same day.

Out of Hollywood’s three former professional wrestlers that decided to step away from the squared circle and focus on the silver screen, Dave Bautista is arguably the best actor, as well as the most interesting in terms of the roles he chooses.
Dwayne Johnson might be the biggest and highest-paid star in Hollywood with charisma for days, but he’s become averse to taking any sort of risks, and can be found almost exclusively in big budget blockbusters where he plays variations of the same character over and over again.
John Cena, meanwhile, is an underrated comic talent, but he too is happy to split his time between action-orientated fare like Fast & Furious 9 and The Suicide Squad and standard studio comedies such as Playing with Fire and Blockers without testing himself in more dramatic territory. Of course, Bautista is still part of the most popular franchise on...

Dave Bautista might be a reasonably big name in Hollywood these days with a plum role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Drax under his belt along with appearances in big budget blockbusters Spectre and Blade Runner 2049, but having made the decision to transition from the squared circle to the silver screen when he was already in his 40s, the former WWE star had to start from the bottom and work his way up.
Bautista’s first two leading roles came in bargain basement actioners Wrong Side of Town and House of the Rising Sun, before he showed up to lend support in The Scorpion King 3: Redemption and RZA’s kung-fu B-movie The Man with the Iron Fists. Despite proving himself as a surprisingly capable dramatic actor, though, through a range of challenging roles that showed he wasn’t just a musclebound meathead,...

The season two premiere of The Mandalorian, "The Marshal," seems to hold the answer to how Boba Fett survived his supposed death. During the episode, Mando arrives on Tattoine under the impression that there's another Mandalorian he can ask for help in returning The Child to the Jedi. Instead, he finds an imposter named Cobb Vanth, who wears the armor as a way to protect his town, and the two eventually team up with the Tusken Raiders to defeat the Krayt Dragon. It's after the defeat of the Krayt Dragon that we see a lone figure, played by Temuera Morrison, watching as Mando heads off in search of a real Mandalorian. When Morrison first turned around, we couldn't help but think that he had to be playing Boba Fett, but how did Fett survive certain death during Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi? For that, we're looking...

Discounting Deadpool 2‘s X-Force, which was played entirely for laughs, with the exception of the spinoffs, Fox’s X-Men franchise focused almost entirely on the core team for two decades until the series reached a disappointing conclusion when The New Mutants finally hit theaters this summer and landed with a thud.
The various sequels and reboots all centered on Charles Xavier’s group of gifted youngsters, who always tended to battle against either an opposing faction recruited by Magneto or shady government forces looking to eradicate or weaponize them. With the X-Men soon being rebooted once more and absorbed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though, one of the main priorities for Kevin Feige and co. will be making sure that their approach sets itself as far apart as possible from the characters we’ve already seen thirteen times before.
