A great strategic multiplayer game
D-Gal27 September 2016
World of Tanks is full of epic tank battles, furious skirmishes, and high-octane excitement. To ensure the highest rate of survival, one must play strategically by themselves or with a platoon to upgrade their tanks with equipment, consumables, skills and perks; playing with some friends in a platoon to ambush the enemies as a pack gives you the greatest chances of victory, depending on your battle strategy.

All tiered tanks (Tier I through Tier X) were incredibly well done when it comes to all aspects. Every tank from all tiers, countries and tank classes are different, all have their pros and cons, and though some tanks look similar, they are all individuals.

Deciding which tanks suit your play-style best while upgrading them for more efficient game-play is critical for absolute success in World of Tanks.

Light tanks are the eyes and ears of the team. You must use your superior maneuverability to spot the enemy, radio back to your team, and duck back quickly under cover before your opponents even know what happened. Always remember to keep moving! Your armor is very weak, so your tank cannot take many hits and survive.

Medium tanks are incredibly varied in their armor, speed, and firepower. Tailor your strategy to individual tank models and you'll find yourself taking on different roles from scouting, support or even front line attacks. Two is always better than one. Pair with another medium tank to take on heavies with double the effectiveness.

Heavy tanks are heavily armored and loaded with powerful guns, as a heavy tank you're a force to be reckoned with, and are generally feared on the battlefield. Though extremely powerful in comparison to the smaller tanks on the field, your tank may not be the fastest when it comes to maneuverability and fire rate, so never let your guard down. You may also be targeted first due to your potential effectiveness to your team, so stay vigilant always.

Tank Destroyers are well-equipped machines that are designed specifically for penetrating enemy armor from long distances, while remaining unseen. Find a good hiding spot, switch to sniper mode, and eliminate easy targets from across the map. These tanks are mostly hull-locked, so a good hiding place is critical, and an exit strategy is recommended for when you're in danger.

Artillery have thin armor, but possess immense firepower. With the ability to hit targets anywhere on the map from nearly any location, even under cover, artillery tanks can turn the tide of battle in the blink of an eye. But, think before you shoot! You might have the biggest gun on the team, but it can take awhile to reload so choose your targets wisely. Firing at the wrong time can also expose you, leaving you vulnerable for the imminent incoming barrage of shells.

Wargaming were very smart when it came to World of Tanks; they released it as a free game to download so that anybody who has an online account can play for free. Because this game has the potential to be addictive, they knew they'd make more revenue releasing as a free game considering that if you want the best of the best when it comes to tanks, equipment and rewards, you have to pay real money to access those which a lot of people do.

An online game only, and an excellent game to play with friends who also like strategic game-play. 8/10

Great competitive game.
Analog_Devotee4 August 2021
I've pumped a lot of hours into this game over the years and I personally think it's a good one. The competitive gameplay is awesome, engaging and rewarding. Despite what other reviewers will have you believe, I haven't spent a dime on this game since release, and I still fail to see how I'd "have to."

I'm not denying that microtransactions can get out of control in certain games (hello, GTA V) but I wouldn't consider this game one that falls under that category. It's literally a free game. Spend money if you want, or don't. It's not going to differ your experience by much...

Free game, but you will have to pay to play.
the_real_smile28 July 2020
A review of WOT from a player who has played it for 10 years. 1. Psychics and graphics The game looks stunning, the graphics are great and there is some real calculation of the thickness of armor en angle of impact. In the game you only see an enemy tank after it's spotted.

2. Game play You drive around in a tank that's parked in your garage and shoot the enemies. You can repair damages and heal injured crew. You have to buy ammo, what can be regular, or premium ammo with is expensive and only for premium paying players. With the lower tanks, say you play a tier 2 tank, there are always higher (stronger) tier tank present, so you want a higher and higher tank otherwise you will mostly be beaten.

2. Earnings There are 10 tiers of tank. Each tier the tank costs more, and is more expensive to repair after getting damaged in a round., all costs more. For a free player it's impossible to get higher then tier 8 because the earning from winning a battle is too low to effort a high tier tank and damaging a tier 10 easily costs you 25.000. There are 2 ways to circumvent this, the first being to pay to play and the second is to buy premium tanks. Almost everything in the game is set up to get as much money out of your pocket as possible.

3. Cheating There is a fair amount of cheating mods available and many, many players use them. There is a 0,0004% change of being caught, but there are cheats for a monthly rent that never get detected.

4. AI There are a number of artificial intelligence tanks playing in a game, so some players cannot get a score that is too high, or too low.

5. player support There is now way you can complain to a ban or if you miss a payment your account is directly suspended definitely. Well you can put in a ticket, but nothing happens with that.

Conclusion This game can be addictive and everything, really everything revolves about you putting money in the game otherwise you can't get that fancy tank or even play because you cannot repair your tank or buy ammo. My advice, stay far, far away of this so called free game, because it is far from free, if you want to play. want a fairer game, try Warthunder

With its broken balance caused by greed, the most shameless pay-to-win game ever, there is only frustration for 99% of the players who doesn't keep throwing money
utku_kamil_ozen27 September 2017
We all know that there is no such thing as a genuine free-to-play game. But World of Tanks takes PAY-TO-WIN concept to such shameless levels that it should be illegal. It doesn't only screw its non-paying gamers but it also betrays the paying customers too. Imagine you paid 100 dollars to a tank and in 2 months that tank becomes obsolete because they release another tank which is way Superior than yours and meant to compete at the same tier.

And there are many other sinister things going on with this game, I cannot possibly fit them in a single review with a 1000-word limit. The buyout system in game is set to gold, which means spending real money, and it is designed to trick you to spend real money on stuff that you don't really want to buy with real money. This trick works when you have some gold in your account that you purchased with real money with other use in your mind.

As I said, there are way too many things to cover. I won't go through all of them, but if you don't take my word for it, take a look at the videos on World of Tanks' Youtube channel, read the comments. This is a warning to all of you people out there. Do not spend any money nor time for this game. Because the game is complicated, it might take you a lot of time and money before you finally realize how broken it is and how it's designed to make money in an almost criminal way. This game got worse over time because of the company's greed. It has such a broken balance in gameplay to the point of being not fun any more even when you don't think about money.

If you are a mindless, spoiled brat with your father's credit card you might find this game somewhat fun for a short time. Because there will be no challenge for you in the game. For the rest of the players, that corresponds to a 99%, there is only frustration for you after you go through your initial excitement with the game.

This is easily the most boring, and easily the worst game I've ever played
TheDancingTuber1611 April 2023
World of Tanks is one of the worst games I've ever played. It may be a bit odd on how it's the worst considering my odd taste in games, but this travesty of a game fails so badly at being good.

First, its marketing is very misleading to the actual experience itself. It presents itself as a fast paced action shooter experience, but instead it's a slow boring game that has a serious power creep issue.

My second reason is the before mentioned power creep, and all of that can be blamed on the horrible matchmaking the game has. The matchmaking worked back in 2010, but 2023 doesn't accept matchmaking like this anymore. A tier 6 can get into a game with a tier 2, is that telling you anything?

This horrid excuse of a game is also extremely pay to win. It's so pay to win, it's ridiculous! You can get these special shells that cost gold, and the only way to get gold consistently is to pay for a premium subscription. You also get all of these overpowered tanks that easily overpower the tanks you get when playing normally.

I made a video playing this horrible game for the first time and that was fine right? Nope! The video was 2 hours long, and all of that time was beating the tutorial... With the cherry on top being the fact that the game doesn't tell you half the stuff it's supposed to. Apparently there was a second part to the tutorial that you can unintentionally skip, that second part once completed gives you about 1000 gold. So you miss an extreme reward because the game refuses to tell you anything! All to make kids get mommy's credit card so they can increase sales. Speaking of that, did you know that in order to change your username, you need to pay 2500 gold? You heard that right! They somehow made a game that's more grind built and paid to win than the entirety of Clash of Clans! And that's some dangerous levels of greed!

Avoid this game at all costs, it's really bad and doesn't deserve anything it has received.

Yikes. Even though the game is free, I couldn't of been more bored playing this. First off, no. I refuse to spend more than a hour on a multiplayer-only video game with absolutely no story. Second, no. I don't have an obsession with tanks, so I don't care what new tanks I unlock. Third, no. It's just plain boring. But to each their own, as this is my dad's favorite game for some reason.
