A few quick words on the premiere of "The Defenders" (2017)
ericrnolan16 November 2017
I certainly wasn't as thrilled with the premiere of Marvel's "The Defenders" (2017) as I thought I'd be. I'd somewhat grudgingly rate it a 7 out of 10.

The show's first episode suffers a bit from an inescapable challenge — how to satisfy the fanbase for each of four superhero characters who have had their own shows. I'd honestly say that this show so far interests me about 50 percent of the time — I love Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but I don't much care about Luke Cage or Iron Fist. Complicating things further is the show's need to logically tie together all of their respective story lines, while arousing interest in a new overall story for this nascent ensemble team. (It … looks a lot like Daredevil's story from both the second season of the Netflix series and the original comics.)

I'm optimistic I'll enjoy it more as I catch the rest of the series. Marvel properties almost always have good writers. And the large cast here (including none other than Sigourney Weaver) is uniformly excellent.

The beginning..

Warning: Spoilers
If you're expecting the show to start with a bang, then you're correct. Not a metaphorical bang, more of an actual bang.. Well two bangs, one including humans and then one including explosives. I thought this was a well executed episode, we were updated as to what all the characters are doing and how they are doing. A few cameos from the different shows were fun to see.

I'm really interested in seeing more of Sigourney Weaver's character, she is such an amazing actress and I truly admire her work. I also like that we got to see Gao almost fearing Alexandra (Weaver) which made me interested in why.

I look forward to watching the rest of the episodes. I give this 8/10 simply because it just setup the rest of the series.

Promising Start for Marvel's Team-up
enterzec19 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of the Marvel Netflix Team-up show is basically telling us where the characters are in present day. This really is Daredevil season 2.5, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist season 1.5 and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. That's exactly what we should have anticipated and some might feel that Defenders therefore started of a bit slow but it's exactly want it should have been. The first fight scene might have been better choreographed then the Iron Fist series but it was barely visible because of the dark environment and was therefore a letdown.

Even though I kind of enjoyed Iron Fist many people had issues with it and its lead Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist. He might not convince you in this episode that he can portray the character but at least he seems to improve somewhat and if that trend continues trough out the series than more people might be happy with his performance. Charlie Cox is amazing as Matt Murdock and has been since the first episode of Daredevil. season 1. In this episode he wasn't involved in any fighting scenes but he got to show of his acting skill in both the courtroom scene and when he's talking to the kid outside of the courtroom, both scenes were acted wonderfully by Cox. All four of the defenders got about the same screen time and both Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage continued their strong performances from their respective series.

A lot of supporting characters from the different series appears and unfortunately Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) still doesn't to it for me, she seems kind of stiff, but at least Defenders isn't going to focus on her character. The first episode had to be a bit slow but that's when the dialogue has to be top-notch for the episode not to suffer and even though it wasn't bad, it wasn't at the level it could have been to make this a great start for Defenders. Overall a solid first episode and it definitely shows a lot of promise for the next seven episode to come.

Score: 6/10 (Solid)

Kinda Messy, Kinda Boring [5.8/10]

Warning: Spoilers
Live Reaction / Review for The Defenders Episode 01: A friend told me to watch this show before watching Daredevil Season 3 so here I am. Foggy without long hair? I cant get used to it. Ok so its the first episode so I guess they introduce all the characters. Good so far. We also get introduced to this woman who is dying and doesn't have much time left. I don't know anything about this character though, she seems to be a crime boss or something. Jessica is an alcoholic and also seems to be pretty reckless. Luke Cage has a relationship with Claire? What?! The episode feels a little bit disjointed but that's to be expected when you have to introduce so many characters. 30 minutes in and I have to say this is boring. Overall its a very mediocre episode but its only the first so I hope episode 2 is good. My rating is 5.8/10.

The Lives of Each Defenders is Brought by a common enemy
pablommorillo18 August 2017
So basically we are seeing our warriors live their lives 1 year after all their problems happened. Times have changed, and many are just doing their jobs and having relations. A direct way to make this realistic. Also, I love having a Comic Movie.. but having a comic Series based on a TEAM of HEROES!? You have to be kidding.

Episode 1

Warning: Spoilers
Count me as one of the millions excited for the show. When time finally came around to watch it I wasn't quite let down, but I expected a bit more. Seeing Jessica Jones' snark for the first time in years was great, and seeing the destruction of Luke Cage.

But the stories felt weak. We better get a good reason why they are all connected and have to come together, not just another random villain.

Sigourney Weaver's character is not sucking me in at all. It feels like a rehash of the same thing we got on the 4 individual shows.

H de Herói
foxbrvar3 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Os Defensores (2017)

Series

1st Season

Episode One - H de Herói

Just like the series from the MCU's WandaVision onwards, I'm going to watch the Netflix Defenders saga out of order, I believe it will allow me to understand everything calmly, anything I'll read the comments.

The camera panned so much in this episode that I finished this episode feeling dizzy.

One question, at the moment Iron Fist is talking to himself, was it supposed to look like a back of the head that is clearly not the actor's?

Or is that the back of his head?

Well, it's very different, the hair color and the hair itself, but I could be wrong.

As I already wrote, I haven't watched anything from this saga, I just know that the most hated series is Iron Fist and the most loved is Daredevil, I believe I'll watch it based on the number of episodes.

It was an interesting episode, I believe that everyone who loves each other's series was rewarded with secondary characters from their respective series, but I believe that they won't appear much.

Previous Series: Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)

Episode one of the first season of the Miniseries Os Defensores watched on May 3, 2024.

Rating: 9/10.

Awkward
Leofwine_draca2 February 2022
This was quite awkwardly handled with the show attempting to be a sequel to no less than four hit Netflix series. So we get a lot of character work with guys who aren't interacting at this point, plus the slow introduction of a new mega villain. Let's see how this pans out.

Okay - 6
herthajasper28 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
+ fun character interaction (especially Jessica Jones and DD) + some cinematography + character themes transferred well + little story arcs seem intriguing

+/- on the fence about Alexandra and the "plan" +/- weird transactions between character scenes seem gimmicky

  • opening fight scene - "The Hand" still bland - CGI on the "incident"

Snoozefest
greenwhich18 August 2017
I am not even going to bother with the series after that. I literally just fast forwarded the entire episode, because it was that boring, you are watching paint dry. There was no reason for them to even be on TV. This is not a comic book, it's a pretentious social study.

Comic books don't have other lives, outside of how to avoid their disguises being caught out, or their relationships finding them out. A comic book doesn't stop too create its pretentious dialogues of their happy day jobs, and relationships. They aren't a superhero, just TV's idiots, playing dress up with their super strength, basically all of these idiots have that ability. All that means is CGI employed for why they are so exceptional, punching through walls while bleeding their hearts out of why they are so strong as its cripples, junkies, traumatized, or handicapped.

A comic sets its comic as a story of its hero and its villains. There really isn't anything else, apart from the chase, and its action. It doesn't stop to dive into another prospective, it's a flick book.

There was no reason for any defenders to be here, what are they defending us against? Nothing but their ego's.

Banshee, Spartacus, Into the Badlands, Blood Drive, today's comics. I will say Marvel's Agent's of Shield does it well enough for its younger audience, doesn't stop, it's cheesy but enjoyable, and the recent robot theme was exceptional. These other shows, not a clue at all, outside of the pretentious reasoning offered, boring screen time watching paint dry while mining for any actual comic content. That flick book comparison. Even the Punisher's 2 episodes of action fell short of the other 8 of utter freaking drivel. American Gods is a novel, but its content had an interesting comparable comic story. Not shouting the zombie theme and its social study of why any zombies aren't a threat.

Netflix just aren't comics at all... Just an ego better not subscribed

A nearly unwatchable mess
LaLaLandSucks18 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is just so cringy, derivative, and poorly done. The beginning fight scene was over stylized and unwatchable due to how many cuts the editor constantly made second after second. The narrative was as rushed as the typical introduction to the characters in Suicide Squad with weird music choices to unnatural dialogue. The part where I just decided to turn off the episode was when Rosario Dawson says "shall we get that coffee?" Cringe, then the sex scene rapidly edited with cheesy slow music, cringe even more. I am not even going to bother to watch the rest as I can already see this show being crap due to the producers being so clueless of what they're doing.
