I'm liking this show more and more. I guess (and hope) it will became more and more intricate and interesting!

And I love seeing different kind of moms. And how they interact with their children.

The Tension Continues!
gab-147121 November 2020
In "Serious Mothering," themes the show is trying to display is coming to life in this season's second episode. One of the main themes is bravery. Ziggy going back to school after the accusation, Ed standing up to his wife about a relationship that ended fifteen years prior, Madeleine confronting Renata about a birthday party, etc. These characters show exemplary acts of bravery in this episode. The tension is unreal during this episode. I had to double check to see that no act of murder was secretly committed behind everyone's backs. This episode proved that the pilot was no fluke. I am truly immersed in everyone's lives now. People often compare Madeleine to Witherspoon's character in Election, but all grown up. She is the busy bee who needs to be at the center of attention. Her loyalty to her friends is unwavering, but some people do not like her kind of craziness. Just ask Bonnie or the guy directing traffic. Here, she stands up to Renata after she discovers Ziggy has been denied an invitation to Annabella's birthday party. She calls it unfair and protests the party, and she won't even allow her own Chloe to attend. In terms of Celeste, we see how deep the domestic abuse runs. It is one of those simmering, slow burns that terrifies you and makes you feel for Celeste. The tension is unreal just watching Perry pack his suitcase. Then you see how this domestic abuse turns into throes of passion. This is a reminder that domestic abuse comes in all shapes and forms. Will her suggestions of therapy help? In the last episode, Adam Scott's Ed was just a supportive husband with nothing much to lean on. This episode is a whole different story. He tells his wife to stop harping on a relationship that ended a long time ago and questions her love. He also stands up to Nathan which creates even more tensions between the families. Jane is still a mystery. It is clear she is running away from something but exactly who or what is she running away from? Ziggy asks about his father. Jane shunts those questions aside. Overall, this is another fantastic episode. The performances remain the highlight of the series. Witherspoon and Kidman are wowing me with their works. Did someone say Emmy Awards? Despite the rising amount of tensions, director Vallee does interject some moments of levity. Once again, I like how this is a story about everyday lives within a family, not really about the murder. Although, I am fascinated about the case. Also, the editing of this series has been nothing short of excellent. And I love the California landscape views! My Grade: A-

Nicole Kidman shines
safenoe12 December 2020
Nicole Kidman steals this episode, as a wife in particular, devoted to making her marriage work in person or online with her husband. This episode evokes a feeling and undercurrent of the Monterey Mommies, intercut with the murder at the School's trivia night.

It happens that Madeline's house is the one used in Diagnosis Murder.

I tend to them like little pets

As much as I resent melodramatic trivialities in our everyday lives, intrigues and petty grudges, I can not help but absolutely enjoy each line of dialog in this incredibly witty script. What for me in reality is a shallow complication of human interactions, here I embrace as a guilty pleasure. It comes of very natural, I do however believe that it wouldn't have been possible with a less skillful cast. The awkward mediocrity of some of the "witnesses," I think, proves my point.

The editing in this episode is superb. It didn't make such a strong impression in the pilot, but here, and especially the sound montage, it really got to me. I believe it is in those wonderfully crafted scenes, where no dialog and no conventional camera angles are present, that the medium really comes to life in all it's potential.

I am looking forward to how the story will unfold. Regardless - this is another of those TV shows, that are, in their essence, an experience themselves.

Some of the best parts of the episode happened in smaller, quieter moments.

Ed's transformation from mild-mannered spouse into a deliberate, stand-up guy not willing to be run over by his dominant wife was well worth the wait and brilliantly played by Adam Scott in all his hirsute glory.

Petty, little feuds

Another episode of a tensed, funny and suspenseful series. God, I am enjoying this. BLL is slowly beginning to uncover its themes- I think the show heavily deals with the themes of parenting and the lives of parents behind the parenting veil.

10 minutes into this episode and you get a very tensed moment almost to the point of being uncomfortable-the series has you hooked. With vivid characters especially Witherspoon in this episode, keep you chained throughout-you don't blink, you don't look at the time- all you are interested in are the lives of three mothers. The feuds each character has and how they intensify with minor details is awesome. How can a show about moms of 1st graders be interesting ?

Big Little Lies proves it can be.

The show really blossoms in it's second episode. You can't help but get drawn into the lives of the characters in the show. The background score, the location and the production value really adds to the charm, and did I forget to mention the wonderful job done by the actors, Reese Witherspoon shines throughout the episode, and Shailene Woodley impresses with her measured display of emotions. Nicole Kidman comes to her own in this episode as we peek further into her life.

Mothers and Mothers....
AvionPrince1622 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Im a little bit more disappointed in this episode because the investigations are slowing down like really slow . Im just a little bit sad that they didnt get more mysteries and the fact that episode is more a show with some little dramas ( kids who fight each other , mothers get angry ). With a Nicole Kidman hungry for sex : lets be honest she is really pretty pretty and the scenes where she gets naked was nice but its really not enough to make the episode interesting . And also we saw that she get sexually violent with her husband during their argue .

And we have that talk of that young girl about sex and to take the pills to avoid a new problem . So yeah it get a little bit slower, less mysteries ,small dramas . So i know that what we saw now will make more elements to think about later but for now our interest is kind of stopped and get to know each of one of them.
