Matt Damon is once again stirring the pot when it comes to sharing his opinions on sexual harassment and abuse in Hollywood. The “Downsizing” actor joined Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers for a video interview and expressed his belief that the punishment should fit the crime when it comes to sexual misconduct allegations, meaning not all men should be punished the same if the type of misconduct is different.

“I do believe that there’s a spectrum of behavior,” Damon says. “And we’re going to have to figure — you know, there’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right? Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right?”

Heads up: This recap covers the events of Tuesday’s American Horror Story: Cult. If you haven’t watched and/or don’t want to be spoiled, make like Kai’s parents and disappear for a bit.
I have to admit that I was a little taken aback by this week’s Cult. In (most) previous seasons, Ahs has slumped towards the finish line, eventually slowing to a lifeless crawl — but Cult has been gaining momentum in its final weeks, and Tuesday’s episode was no exception.

Confession: There are times when I've been loyally in Luc Besson's corner – the visual splendor of Subway (1985), The Big Blue (1988) and La Femme Nikita (1990) established him as a master of what the French call Cinéma du Look. And 1994's The Professional – with Jean Reno teaching the assassin's game to a very young Natalie Portman – went deeper, blending style with a nurturing sense of humanity. Plus, there's a lot to be said in favor of both his sci-fi extravaganza The Fifth Element (1997) and last year's next-level ScarJo-evolution whatsit Lucy.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In a recent article, box office analyst Tom Brueggemann writes that Rotten Tomatoes has ruined film criticism. Now it’s your turn to weigh in: How do you feel about Rotten Tomatoes and other aggregation sites? Do they hurt or help the state of modern film criticism?
Alissa Wilkinson (@alissamarie), Vox
Yes, aggregation sites can be frustrating, because they keep people from actually reading criticism and understanding the nuances of a critique; not all of my opinions on movies can be reduced to fresh or rotten, and even if the ones that clearly fit one category or the other really need five minutes of reading to understand why.

This Christmas, Denzel Washington’s third directorial feature, “Fences,” will be released in theaters. The Oscar-buzzing film stars Washington as a former professional baseball player who created tension in his family when he denies his teenage son’s dream of playing college football.
The heartfelt drama also boasts an impressive score composed by Marcelo Zarvos that brings the film to life. The full 16-song soundtrack was released by Paramount Pictures and you can listen to it here.

“Silence” isn’t in theaters until Christmas Day, but you can now stream the score to Martin Scorsese’s latest film. Kim Allen Kluge & Kathryn Kluge have hardly composed a conventional soundtrack, however, melding birdsong and other ambient noise into the kind of textural soundscape that blends into the background. Listen here.

Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson star in the religious drama as a trio of Jesuit priests who travel from Portugal to Japan to spread the good word — not that everyone is ready to hear it. Scorsese has wanted to make the film, an adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel of the same name, for nearly 30 years; it was previously adapted by Masahiro Shinoda in 1971. Here’s the tracklist:

It seems sacrilegious to say so, but the finest exchange in Gilmore Girls‘ triumphant revival isn’t a bit of supersonic, pop culture-reference-laden, upbeat banter between Lorelai and Rory — at least, not in the first episode, “Winter.”
Yeah, yeah — I know: That thought is as surprising as the existence of a kale salad on the menu at Luke’s. Don’t worry. There are plenty of smart, touching, funny, eminently...

I guess it goes without saying that getting a flat tire in the middle of the night on an isolated road definitely can't be good.
Though the unfortunate Commander Reza ended up worse off than the random motorists in NCIS Season 14 Episode 8, which featured a couple red herrings, plus three extremely nosy Bishop brothers.
So, a show of hands: who predicted the identity of Bishop's boyfriend before the Big Reveal at the end?
Confession time here: I have four siblings. However, not a one of them are anywhere near as nosy (bordering on obsessive stalking) as Bishop's brothers, for which I am very grateful. That's not to say that people like that don't exist, or are even unrealistic, or anything.
Viewers have pointed out previously Bishop's rather, shall we say, gossip-mongering tendencies. Her brothers definitely shared the trait, relentlessly badgering her coworkers in an attempt to discover the identity of her boyfriend.

Confession: When I'm on airplanes, I like to settle into the over-oxygenated air and get weepy over mediocre sports underdog movies. Not the good ones that make anybody with a soul cry, but movies in which square-jawed white coaches teach Southern towns about the evils of racism, or the lesser of two Steve Prefontaine biopics, or the fifth- through tenth-best Kevin Costner jock jams. Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 08-17-2016
DC Comics has been killing it with sales lately, and for good reason! The Rebirth has been a success with almost every series delivering well-written and illustrated stories. Whatever editorial direction Geoff Johns put the company on, it’s worked! The characters feel fresh and new again, while still keeping true to the status quo set up in the New 52 Universe. Could the books do a slightly better job at feeling more “interconnected” (No that doesn’t mean crossover!)? Sure! But regardless, each individual series feels very well put together and on a focused plot. So without further delay, check out the hot books from this week’s DC Comics Rebirth line up!

Uh oh. Spider-Man: Homecoming is in danger of becoming the next Spider-Man 3. That movie, the end of the Tobey Maguire take on Marvel’s web-slinger, had the issue of being inelegantly overpacked with villains. The Sandman, Venom, and the Green Goblin — a bit much. And that was only three villains! Now Homecoming has more. Upcoming Sony-Disney team-up Spider-Man: Homecoming has signed on yet another villain. The latest addition to the Tom Holland Spidey’s rogue gallery: Phineas Mason the Tinkerer. … Who? Confession: I had no idea who this dude was. Wikipedia tells me he’s a supervillain with “an almost superhuman gift of genius in engineering, able to invent sophisticated gadgets from nothing more than spare parts left over from ordinary household appliances.” Wait, engineering is a superpower now? Tinkerer is a pretty deep cut. Even Marvel.com says, “Very little is known about the criminal known as the Tinkerer.

Malaa might have gotten off to a slow start in 2016, but the “anonymous” DJ/producer artist project has just turned out an Ep sure to bring G house back to the forefront of electronic music fans’ awareness. The Illicit Ep consists of four menacing tracks that have arrived by way of Tchami’s Confession imprint.
To be fair, the first song of the Ep is more of a monologue than an actual track. A pitched-down voice tells the listener, “This is Malaa music. You can listen to this shit at the club and go rob a bank afterwards.”
After that, though, the remaining tracks of the Ep successfully expand the stylistic range of G house without abandoning its trademark grit. “Diamonds” (which was debuted last week) counterbalances its testosterone-laden vocal samples with bright steel drum samples while “Frequency 75” uses even more eclectic production elements and “Danger” utilizes wobbles that liken...

Yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling, which overruled a Texas abortion law that would shut down all but a handful of clinics across the state, was the most significant decision on abortion the court has made in the last 20 years. While abortion is a constant hot topic in terms of governmental policy, it is rarely addressed on our televisions, outside of CNN or Fox News. And when it is addressed, TV shows have a tendency to shy away from honestly portraying how real women deal with unwanted pregnancies.

Mysterious French producer Malaa has dropped a new track this week titled “Diamonds,” revealing the first single from his forthcoming Illicit Ep. The masked producer has been gaining steam lately, linking up with fellow French dance music artists DJ Snake, Tchami and Mercer for their Pardon My French tour this year, with his new single serving as his third release via Tchami’s Confession label.
“Diamonds” is another example of Malaa’s characteristic bass heavy G-house style, featuring rolling basslines, repeated rap samples and an underground friendly production. The new track opens with a steady club beat surrounded by cavernous atmosphere, creating a tense mood. The masked DJ layers the bass saturated drops with a high pitched percussive lead, creating a sinister tone throughout.

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters, and brings with it a predictable level of -- in film -- catastrophic events. The demolishment of iconic monuments has become so old hat that Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson quips, "they like to get the landmarks," in the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer. The unfortunate result of the overuse of grand-scale destruction in film is that both we, the audience, and seemingly the filmmakers themselves have become numb to the intended impact. So much so that director Bryan Singer demonstrated just how tone-deaf both he and the studio had become when they featured Magneto destroying the remains of the Auschwitz concentration camps in X-Men: Apocalypse. It's one thing to drown London bridge for the umpteenth time in a film, but there are certain places that stand sacred. We preserve and honor them because they hold within them the memories that are meant to teach us to be and do better.
