After months of a scandalous trial with ex-wife Amber Heard that almost ruined his entire career, Johnny Depp is slowly getting back on track — the actor has been recently working on his directorial feature Modí, and last year marked his appearance in Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry, Depp’s first acting work since the trial ended.
Despite having received an honorary premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, the film caused a lot of controversy and rumors — but now most of them have seemingly been confirmed by the director herself.
According to Maïwenn, who got to direct Jeanne du Barry while also having one of the leading roles there, working with the world’s most famous actor isn’t that much of a delight.

Los Angeles, April 16 (Ians) Hollywood star Johnny Depp, who won the legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard, has undergone a radical mid-life transformation, as he approaches his 61st birthday.
Earlier this year, the actor cut a distinctly bohemian figure. In February, in Turin, Italy, where he is directing his new film ‘Modi’, about the artiste Modigliani – he was pictured wearing a rasta beanie, a camo Jacket complete with a Che Guevara patch, reports Daily Mail UK.
Back then his hair was so long that it spilled below shoulder length. He has since had a very respectable make over. The pictures, obtained by Daily Mail UK, show him arriving on Monday night (Central European Time) at the small UK movie premiere of ‘Jeanne Du Barry’.
He appears to have lost a considerable amount of weight. He wore a slim-fitting Dior suit and had his hair trimmed short.

Jerry Bruckheimer is officially dashing the hopes of many Pirates of the Caribbean fans by revealing that the next film in the franchise will be a reboot. While this was expected for some time, Bruckheimer has always played coy over whether or not Johnny Depp would return as Captain Jack Sparrow until now. When discussing his new film, The League of Ungentlemanly Warfare with ComicBook.com, he revealed the franchise is being rebooted.
But why?
According to Bruckheimer, much of it comes down to scheduling, with him noting how hard it is to do sequels to huge hits with big stars, as you have to wait on a performer’s availability. “You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you.

It’s a busy year for the Red Sea Souk, the market arm of the Red Sea Film Festival dedicated to discovering new Arab and African talent. The same could have been said of every year of the market’s three-year history, however, with Saudi Arabia’s lightning-fast film industry solidifying the Souk as the principal film market for the Middle East and North Africa.
The third edition of the Souk, taking place between Dec. 2-5, marks the first time the market held an open call for submissions. Previously, selection happened directly or through the Red Sea Fund. According to Red Sea Souk manager Zain Zedan, the response to the open call was overwhelmingly positive.
“We had over 300 submissions, a great number for our first call. It also gives us an indication that there is a lot of interest as people are seeing what the Souk has done in the previous two years.

The third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival, taking place in Jeddah between Nov. 30 – Dec. 9, will be the culmination of a highly successful funding cycle for the Red Sea Film Foundation. Created in 2019 following the lifting of Saudi Arabia’s 30-year cinema ban, the foundation aims to support the local and regional film industry through the organizing and championing of the festival, plus a focus on education and grants.
In 2021, the foundation launched the Red Sea Fund, a financing arm focused on supporting emerging filmmakers and established directors from the Arab world and Africa. Grants were distributed between projects in development, production and post-production. The fund supported 94 projects in the first year and over 250 films in the two years since, including films by acclaimed filmmakers such as Abderrahmane Sissako, Haifaa Al-Mansour and Kaouther Ben Hania.

Italian star Luisa Ranieri, who played the emotionally troubled Aunt Patrizia in Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Hand of God,” has joined the cast of the Johnny Depp-directed film “Modì,” about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. The film has started shooting in Budapest.
Ranieri is starring in “Modì” alongside fellow Italian Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the bad boy painter and sculptor who worked mainly in France and became famous for the groundbreaking modern style of his portraits and nudes. Al Pacino plays international art collector Maurice Gangnat, while French actor Pierre Niney (“Yves Saint Laurent”) portrays French artist Maurice Utrillo, who was Modigliani’s close friend.
Ranieri is playing Rosalie, the owner of an Italian café in Paris whom Modigliani painted. According to lore about the dissolute Italian artist who died at 35, Rosalie also acted as his mother, looking after Modigliani when he was drunk or so out of money that...

At 83, Al Pacino is looking to get a major whiff of the scent of a baby, announcing he and his 29-year-old girlfriend, Noor Alfallah, are expecting a child together. This calls for a hoo-ah! – or at least a hoo-ray, which close friend Robert De Niro offered Pacino upon hearing the announcement.
During a junket for this month’s Tribeca Film Festival, Robert De Niro told People, “What a guy…Go Al, God bless him.” But Pacino isn’t the only iconic actor having kids when he’d be more expected to have grandkids, as De Niro himself recently unveiled photos of his seventh child, despite turning 80 this August.
So how does the raging bull manage to stay on top of both his career and diapers? As the typically short De Niro put it, “I do it, I manage.” Uh, thanks for the insight there, Bobby…De Niro’s seven children...

Just a year ago, the image of Johnny Depp smiling and waving atop the Palais steps at the Cannes Film Festival would have been unthinkable to most — including to Depp, himself.
“When you hit the bottom, you hit the bottom, you hit the bottom, then you find the basement to the bottom,” Depp told The Associated Press the day after “Jeanne du Barry”, in which he stars as King Louis Xv, opened Cannes.
This time last year, Depp was immersed in a libel trial he brought against Amber Heard, his ex-wife, based on a 2018 Washington Post op-ed piece in which she referred to herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” A British court had ruled in 2020 that a tabloid labeling Depp “a wife beater” were “substantially true.” Soon after the ruling in the U.K., Hollywood had largely cut ties with Depp, jettisoning him from both the “Fantastic Beasts...

Johnny Depp has played Cannes many times, with four of his films in Competition: “Dead Man” and “Ed Wood” (both 1995), “The Brave,” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998), but he’s never had this much at stake on the Croisette. As the randy King Louis Xv, powdered and wigged in the opening-night Out of Competition selection “Jeanne du Barry,” Depp will begin his latest effort at career rehab.
Depp, who will be 60 in a few weeks, is well past his movie-star prime and remains in recovery from a string of court cases. Depp lost his “wife-beater” U.K. libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2020, but last June he won $10 million in compensatory damages in a U.S. court. Warner Bros. paid his $16 million fee for the third “Fantastic Beasts” film, but asked him to resign from playing the role of Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise. (Mads Mikkelsen replaced him.
