Finally a Proper Accent

Regarding Sister Douglas; did they get an actual Jamaican person to play the role? It was like sweet music to hear her natural dialect and words. While the subject matter was heart breaking, I feel they nailed it.

I also was adopted. This was well done.

And my story of adoption is, to me very sad. And now I have had children of my own, and I thought this episode was very well done, and brought several situations into the episode.

Back on form

It's been a dour and dull sixth series of this show so far, so thank goodness this episode pulls things around and normal service is returned.

The reason for that really is that the writer focused on characters we care deeply about, rather than the weaker new additions and the dreaded Sister Ursula, who thankfully has been moved on.

There's also a much needed boost of humour in this episode too, which had been lacking in the first three episodes. One of the strengths of this show is its ability to mix light and shade, but this has been off balance so far.

Hopefully this marks a return to form for this much loved show.

Attempted emotional manipulation.

Warning: Spoilers
This season continues its slide into "Eastenders meets The Knick", with a healthy dose of "WTAF" tossed in thanks to a gross storyline involving adoption. It's clear the writers/director was trying to coerce the audience into rooting for the mother by vilifying the adoptive parents because...gasp... they are atheists, but by the end of the episode I was hoping the birth mother and her children picked up cholera from the shared toilet.

Added bonus points for the unnecessary dig at Americans (brilliant choice considering the show's popularity on this side of the Atlantic) and a dad getting his kid hammered because... bonding? Just awful.
