Better than average
talonjensen21 November 2018
As is my wont, I'm reviewing this against other Asian dramas.

It is a nice story about a young nerdy couple in college and their romance. It ties in computer gaming relationships with real-life relationships and that did make it more interesting until that drops by the wayside later in the series. Later in the series the programming company started by the main male character becomes more central to the story.

The male protagonist, Xiao Nai (Yang Yang), is an almost perfect character with few flaws. The top-rated character in a game, the best programmer, the top intramural basketball player, the top intramural swimmer and the most handsome guy on campus. It is a lot, especially when I realized he is autistic. I'm kidding a little bit here, but not much. Xiao Nai walks past other people without looking at them, even when they clearly want to talk to him. He often then stops and talks to them without looking at them. In Asian dramas this is somewhat common in the cold, arrogant, rich male and I think I'm going to have to start labeling them all, autistic. Xaio Nai is so perfect that female students treat him as a rock star.

He and Bei Wei Wei (Shuang Zheng) do get along well for an Asian drama, with few misunderstandings that are easily corrected with direct communication. Wei Wei is among the top ten players in the game, a good programmer, tallish, thin and attractive.

It is a little too stereotypical in that Xiao Nai takes control of the relationship and while Wei Wei may balk at times, she doesn't resist very long. There is more kissy face than I expect in Asian dramas, but my wife liked it. Wei Wei's contributions to work are limited to traditional female inputs such as ordering meals, and suggesting/arranging sleeping cots (but, she is only an intern as she is two years behind Xiao Nai in school).

Er Xi (Xiaotong Mao) is a fun character and provides some comic relief, as does Xiao Nai's college roommates and programming buddies.

Several of the characters that initially present themselves as bad, for conflict's sake, are allowed to grow and change, which was nice.

Overall better than average and fun to watch. Just put aside disbelief at how good Xiao Nai is at so many things (I didn't even mention them all). The main thing I liked about this drama is the two main characters actually trust each other rather than assuming the worst, which is a common conflict in Asian dramas.

Sweet gaming love story
SanisiUK23 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet love story. It was interesting to see a show where the drama encircled the main couple, but they behaved with dignity and it never created conflict between them. The pair had flaws, but they were subtle;it was almost annoying how perfect they were, but it's a nice display of a loving relationship. Some people just click and treat each other well (patient, considerate, no secrets, et cetera). The gaming side was a nice story choice. Very fun visually and created an interesting plot many times over. My favorite character was Er Xi; she was fun to watch because she was mostly cheerful and fun, but actually seemed the most realistically human.

A slow paced show that I didn't hate
packor4 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, it is very light and does not have much story. You can predict almost everything before it actually happens, but this is a show about the journey and not the result. The couple are soulmates, and the man recognized this from the first time he saw her. There is no real drama, and the show is just the progression of their love life.

A lot of show time is split between 2 things: character interactions and romantic moments between the couple. The character interactions are somewhat slice of life. It shows people that have good lives full of promise and love, and their journey together as friends. The romantic moments are very cute and romantic. The show does tend to drag with an abundance of these moments, but that's where the show feels the best. Obviously, this is not something that appeals to everyone.

Basically, it is a feelgood romantic fantasy.

There were some things that I didn't like. The lead actress was barely making an effort in all the kissing scenes, which made it feel like her SO is forcing himself on her. People's sense of beauty were really off in the show. Her friend is almost the cutest in the show, but people worse looking than her are calling her ugly. Lead actress is not that great(compared to everyone else), but everyone turned heads for her.

I watched it till end but their chemistry still left me wanting for more.

One of the best TV dramas I have watched, really love it! Can't remember how many times I've watched it :-P
ibmcate16 June 2019
The sweetest online love story I have ever watched, there was no unnecessary misunderstandings or back and forth in main characters' relationship. So no torture for me as a perfectionist. So sweet!

Complex themes
maridelia26 July 2019
It may seem like a regular movie until you listen and see aspects of Chinese culture, morals, pride through subliminal messages interspersed throughout the film. It's an idealistic romance on the front but the impact of values you can only lock if you study the dialog more. Good job.

Swoon inducing romance
magnoliacream17 February 2022
No wonder this drama is usually included in best Chinese drama lists. It's extremely captivating and titillating. The story centers around a pair of gorgeous Computing students in Qing University who bond through the online game A Chinese Ghost Story. The romance between university heartthrob Xiao Nai (Yang Yang) and department belle Bei Wei Wei (Zheng Shuang) is sweet and heart-fluttering.

The pace is much better than many cdramas. The presentation of the online game is impressive, making me interested in playing it myself. The relationship between two individuals who, with their high IQ and EQ, can resolve issues quickly and peacefully, is the type I like - mature, with minimal misunderstanding.

Not for me
archergem-6454513 November 2018
I've watched a few Chinese .dramas, but for me this is the least favourite. Too long to keep me interested. Couldn't empathise with main characters, especially the male lead, if there's one thing I find unattractive is the cold arrogant type with, this is only my own opinion because of the vibes, but didn't have that much humour, unlike his male counterparts. Sorry, but I found this a real turn off. Attractive actors/actresses and well acted. The story going along with the game and participants is not novel to have kept my interest going. Thought Meteor Garden and the Snail Who Fell in Love were much more entertaining.

If You are a Yang Yang fan
debbiecheryllayne11 October 2022
This is my sister's favourite c/k drama. It's an excellent watch because the male cast kill it. I've seen American dramas with less talent but greater fame. And kudos to Her Naughtiness (the female lead's best friend)- this sister can act. Cute as a button, but when your performance compels someone to look for your other works, then you can be assured that your talent made some forget cute. Very few with good lucks can actually do it. That's when you have both a hook and a kill.

The kisses made me laugh. Kissing cardboard seems easier. But I understood the outcome.

Loved the graphics, storyline and difference in ending from movie. Also love theme of influencing youth to do business differently. It's a constant in Korean and Chinese drama. Film with social conscience has greater national benefit than environmentalism that's values pets above human life. Value both.

Main criticism is that female lead role never truly evolves or grow. One episode may fool many, but I value thinking both as a habit and skill. I don't fault the actress. She did what was asked of her. Wanted to see more of Young man being tutored. Good talent. Also loved idea of not trying to redetermine who someone loves. Takes all types to make one world.

What I find curious is the misuse of the word beautiful. Anyone who can't stop traffic without make-up and wearing sackcloth just don't cut it. Barbados is small. My secondary school population was less than 1200., with less than 110 girls. Female lead couldn't qualify as nothing more than pleasant to behold. Supporting actress is a whole different story.

In top k/ c dramas, whether modern or historical, the trifecta of haircut, wardrobe and personal dynamism transfixes you and transcends ordinary. When the 4th ,5th and 6th dimensions of good talent throughout cast, good writing and directing are added, then you get a work that leaves American and western cinema and tv in the dust. And counting box office receipts in US dollars can never diminish impact or change that outcome. Then comes the seventh dimension - a place all its own.

Would I suggest this to young people I know? Yes. I prefer The King's Avatar and the female roles. But overall, it's because it showcases more talent, has conflict that doesn't negate admiration of skill of acting and it compels you to watch it again. Both also provoke you to never superimpose your personal opinion on the work or the story and to respect creative choices made based on social-cultural and market norms. So, all in all, I learnt more from lead female role of Love o2o but I admire talent and role of others more. That's the beauty of having more than one lens through which to observe anything.

I didn't always love the characters or the acting, but the plot was very cute and different from many dramas. The relationship between the two characters is heartwarming and really enjoyable to watch.

So cheesy!
blue-mariah15 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's so cheesy!! I liked the gamer storyline and how good looking the main characters were, but I don't understand their relationship. They're supposed to be together, but they're so cold. Why does the girl just hold still every time her boyfriend kisses her? She never kisses him back. She seems so weak. When she got the internship at her bf's company, why didn't she show them more of her intelligence? Why didn't she get an invitation to help them with some coding? Why didn't she show them what a star she could be, just like her boyfriend, and show that she is his equal in every way? How could she even agree to marry him before she even had a chance to show off her programming chops?

There was no need for side storyline with the girl's best friend and the curly hair guy, or for the store to go so long. Also, the soundtrack was terrible!

I watched the whole thing only because they were good looking, but I really wanted something more from the girl; a show of strength and intelligence like her gaming character.

A true Chinese fairy tale
Giselle171028 October 2020
What I say about this if not a fairy tale? My heart skipped in episode 10 when they finally meet up and he was showing off his gf to everyone! That's the sweetest thing ever. Loved how in the last scene they went back to the place they find met unknowingly. Watching her silently in the library.. Alws having her back no matter what..

But I found the kissing scenes very weird cz the actress was so frigid. It's okay that she didn't kiss back that much but she didn't seem she was too into the kiss! Poor Yang Yang! Made the scenes so perfect by himself. Kissing scene BTS are so hilarious. U should check it out too!

A must watch drama!
Anry724 April 2020
This is a must watch! The story is centered around an online video game where our two leads meet. Of course, like any drama there is always a twist and this drama definitely brings plenty of it. The male character is very much your typical male, strong, assertive, skilled and your female is the same. They both have many common interest and I really liked how the obstacles they had to over come helped them develop their relationships. Of course, since this is a drama there are plenty of antagonist, however what drama wouldn't have some. Their supporting characters bring plenty to the story and help and support both leads. I really recommend you watch this drama; you will love it!

A fun love story
catherinewei0099 February 2020
A feel good, light hearted series. If you are looking for a fun, cute and happy series, watch this. The protagonist is too perfect but I enjoy the show so much that I'm ok with that. The premise of the story has an interesting mixed of the gaming world tying it to the players real world love triangles and the challenges of a start up company versus big corporations. The comedy of the supporting roles and the romance between the lead roles made this series a fun watch.

Lead actress was sick
ralpmg21 April 2023
You see people are writing about the lead actress being skinny that was because she was very sick. She would shoot then get treatment. She was a real trooper. So before you shot your shoot get to know. It was fun and nice. A must see. It went there , where and everywhere. See it ,play it ,love it and live it. It's gets to the heart if gaming while showing you that gaming isn't everything.

It takes you to a time where you were young and you just wanted to game. It also takes you to a time where you wanted to get your act together Love, betrayal, sneaky and fun. See the show and that is all It was very good.

Bad Casting, Excellent story
princesschristy24 October 2019
Original story which allows for a perfect mix of some costume scenes. The scenes are light but sometimes cringy. The romance is written really well, characters are a little too perfect but that's classic Chinese drama. The biggest downfall has to be the horrible casting. There is no chemistry between the leads and the female lead has a range of a handful of emotions. I recommend you watch the movie first to get a better appreciation of the story like I did, had to finish all 30 epis because of that.

Gamer Profile Romances Intertwine With Real Life
PalmBeachG20 September 2022
A full 30 episodes, not to be confused with the short movie with the same name. Being a fan of K-Drama, unfortunately Chinese Drama never seems to compare by any means. One thing I noticed is that the C-Drama always has the lead male cast as Cold, aloof and emotionless. The lead Yang Yang plays those characteristics perfectly and in addition is handsome, cool, arrogant and a guy of few words. He usually talks in one small sentence only. Later, he does warms up in the series and begins to smile when he later gets involved in a romance. I felt he was the only one who made the series, along with a buddy named Mr. Girly who had personality. The lead female is cute however so thin that it makes me wonder how much they eat in China. I always check the lead's profiles after watching and am sorry to read the recent disturbing scandals on the lead that seems to have affected her career.

What makes this series unique is that that the online profile romances intertwine with real life at the University without knowing the profile names or who is even playing, at school. Of course there are surprises as online rivals get revealed and outed as different situations of real life come into play. The computer graphics of the gaming is excellent. Another cold and emotionless actor enters the arena known as KO, a top hacker. It again amazes that this profile type of coldness and scary stares seems to be the norm in China Dramas.

Product placement is always pronounced in C-Drama. In this case blatant promotion of name brand Jeep and HP Computers, but if you watch C-Drama, expect it, as they are not sneaky about it at all.

Alot of Chinese culture is promoted in the game developed and also during the whole series. It is interesting to learn more about Chinese culture however some of it is a bit disturbing that comes out such as discussion on "relaxation of the 1 child policy", and others.

The ending doesn't seem to match the episode description - what I saw seems to be a little different. I am a little confused as to the culture of a Chinese wedding - was there a short cut taken? Or is this the way their weddings are?

Hmm.. not horrible, not great (just imo)
mrvino151 March 2021
I know a lot of people love this show and that's completely cool, I totally get it. Don't get me wrong, I finished all episodes, but it was very cheesy to me, even though I do like these kinds of shows. It felt cheesy and unrealistic along with the fact that I didn't feel the 2 leads had any chemistry together. To me, it almost felt as though most of them could act a bit except for them, even though she was better imo than Yang Yang (even though I felt he did great in The King's Avatar). Her bff was cute and fun and really helped keep this together even though she overdid it at times.

Honestly, I felt a lot of my feelings had to do with the script, directing, and editing. I don't feel like either of those gave the actors much to work with.

But, I did still finish it. ;)

Romantic gem
phoenixfrosty19 February 2022
This is almost perfect for me, what a romantic drama should be - full of sweet moments, with the leads in perfect harmony with each other. The female lead looks rather anorexic, made more noticeable when she wears super short clothing, but she is blessed with such a pretty face that can make one almost ignore her extra slim frame. She is one of a few Chinese actresses whose beauty can match Yang Yang's. The second leads are a bit annoying, one too loud and the other too quick to mistrust, but they show how loveable the leads are, so they serve their purpose.

This is a great example of why more and more people are being charmed by Chinese dramas, where characters are allowed to be sweet and true to their feelings without being crass, over-the-top or lewd, where scenes that jaded viewers might consider cliché or cheesy warm the heart and let viewers bask in the glow of sweet love.
