Man of science vs. man of faith
FlikJedi71913 January 2020
This finale is perfect, and the cliffhangers make me grateful for streaming capabilities. I would have hated to watch this live and wait a year for the next season.

The suspense between the story on the raft and the hatch further highlights the writers' craft of excellent story telling. We also the rift between Jack and Locke continuing to deepen, which will grow in the next season. The development of this tension results in great dialogue and great acting.

I love the conversation between Jack and Locke after the monster attack. They're philosophies couldn't be any different and what's even better is watching this episode knowing where the characters are going in the series.

The finale easily gets a 10/10!

The finale that started all!(minor spoilers)
Shmaden25 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Although on IMDb the episode "Exodus" is divided in 3 parts... I usually watch it as one episode of 2 hours give or take(and yes watched more than once), but since here on IMDb this 3rd part showed up, I thought I might just write a review for this episode which started all the other great finales of LOST.

I remember watching this when I was a kid and after the episode ended I was so shocked about the direction of the show... and more than this gasping for the next season, because there were so many questions and cliffhangers left opened after the end of this finale. I guess in a way this episode was the one that started the well- known trend from today of leaving huge cliffhangers on the next season.

As an episode, I can say It's one of the best ones of LOST... and while trying to not spoil much I have to say that this episode will somehow show what's with those "others" the fate of the raft, the true nature of that french woman and more important what is the hatch.

In conclusion, I'll say that this finale is one to be remembered and the one that in my opinion started the well-known trend of cliffhanging season finale not for LOST alone but for many other shows to come. And while the pilot is arguably the best first episode of a series ever... this season finale is the starting point of what will later become in my opinion the best series ever!

Season One

Warning: Spoilers
2 years ago Since the beginning of televised drama, there was always a pattern: Shows dealt with a topic each week, and then moved on to the next one. This was done in order to not confuse viewers (in an era before time-shifting and binge-watching) with over-arching plotlines and to play well in syndication when the main run was over. The X-files was one of the first shows to break that formula, but even then the majority of its episodes were "monster of the week" variety. In 2004, however, LOST premiered and smashed all preconceived notions of what televised drama could do.

In a nutshell, LOST tells the story of a group of people who survived a plane crash and now find themselves on a deserted island, with little chance for rescue. But this isn't just your run-of-the-mill island, as is made clear on the first night when a dinosaur-sounding monster is heard in the jungle. Not long after, a polar bear is spotted, along with a French woman broadcasting an SOS,, a metal hatch buried deep in the ground, and a mysterious band of "Others" that seem to lurk on the periphery of everything. Obviously, the island is not as "innocent" as it would seem.

Besides what is happening on the island, though, the stories of selected survivors (the main cast) are told in flashback formula, adding to the emotional drama. It is revealed how certain characters wound up on the plane to begin with, and the undercurrent beneath every flash-back implies that each "Lostie" is somehow connected to each other, perhaps having been "brought" to their mysterious island for a particular reason. During this first season, these flashbacks are easily given as much time and emotional weight as the island events themselves, and this situation plays for the better.

Perhaps more than any season of television i've ever seen, this one literally has "something for everyone" in terms of characters and storytelling. Whereas future seasons might weed out viewers who are looking for more relatable or "general" drama, this first season is a perfect blend of action, adventure, mystery, and emotion. With the exception of homeland's first season, this is maybe the best introductory slate of episodes ever put on the small screen.

To conclude, LOST is the perfect blend of emotional drama, intense action, and mind-bending mystery. This first season primarily serves to introduce the important characters (through the ingenious flash-back method) and scratch the surface of the mysteries the island has to offer. By producing basically a mini-movie every week, Bad robot productions (led by JJ Abrams) and the showrunning duo of Damon Lindelof & Carleton Cuse changed what network tv could offer.

Continuing "Exodus: Part II"
TheLittleSongbird19 January 2018
When 'Lost' was in its prime, it was must-watch television. Remember first watching it, found it remarkably easy to get into, was hooked from the start and was on Season 3 by the end of one week. The general consensus is that the final season is a disappointment and cannot disagree.

Like both "Pilot" parts were a perfect beginning to the show, all three parts of the first season finale couldn't be a more perfect end to a season, one of the best season finales for any show and an example of how to do one well. "Exodus: Part I" was a 'Lost' high point, "Exodus: Part II (Part I and II)" manages to be even better.

It sets the mysteries and island events for what is to follow brilliantly, is hugely entertaining and even richer in tension and suspense with an electrifying ending.

The flashbacks are a fine example of adding, even enhancing, to the main story rather than distracting from it and making the characters (several characters this time) more interesting and learning more about them and what they were doing hours before the crash without any reiteration.

All the acting is wonderful throughout from all involved, main cast and support.

"Exodus: Part II (Part I and II)" is one of the show's best directed, scripted and looking episodes. It's beautifully photographed, as always making the most of the island setting. The music is as always chilling and understated, while clearly a lot of passion was put into a very thought-provoking and smart script and the direction is spot on.

Summing up, brilliant and a high point of a generally strong first season where all the episodes ranged from good to outstanding. 10/10 Bethany Cox

What a ride

What a great episode. It had everything I usually want with finales a great start, entertaining middle part and a great ending which makes you want to watch the next season. However many questions are still unanswered. And cgi in this show is not that good. I know its an old show but shows back in 2004 had decent cgi. I'm spoiled with great cgi in this day and age. So when you see bad cgi it gets really noticed. That's the only complain I have with this show. Other than that story is great, plot is intriguing. Storytelling early on in the show was a bit slow but picked pace near the end of the season. The mystery about the island keeps getting better and better. Although we don't know much about it. It has been a slow revelation. I can't wait to find out all the answers. I have a long way to go I'm only at season 2 right now. If I wanted to be a critic I would say the season didn't need 25 episodes. They could have wrapped it up in 15 or even 10. But every episode has been interesting enough to keep me hooked. I like all the characters I think I would not have liked them as much if they didn't show their back stories in all these episodes. So I get why it has so many episodes. It's to build the characters and connect with them. So you can laugh and cry with them. I'm a huge fan of Damon Lindelof. I watched Watchmen on HBO which was created by Lindelof and I was really impressed with the show and his writing. This is the reason why I am watching Lost. And I'm impressed here as well with the writing. Even though the show is a bit old but it's still compelling and interesting. Great finale overall 10/10.

It's all nostalgic and fun but it lacks answers

Warning: Spoilers
They saw something on the radar of the raft and they used their only flare. The guys that came over took Michael's son and exploded their raft. They brought Claire's son back from that woman. The black smoke monster tried to take Locke down a hole but they saved him. They finally got to open the hatch although Hurley got spooked by the numbers on it.

My all hopes for this show sinked
pavlekladamusic8 October 2023
I seriously cannot begin to understand why this show is rated so well. I guess it some sort of twisted nostalgia... This is not a fantasy show, this is not a TV mystery. It is a cheesy soap opera disguising itself as something different, but anyone with just enough common sense could see below the disguise and see that it is a ordinary, boring American drama happening on a mysterious island. I seriously thought things would get better in the series finale, I hoped the script will focus more on the fantasy element of the show, but no... 90% of this show is just pure cheesy drama that was seen is so many different Tv shows, with the only exception that this drama is happening on an eerie island. Really bad, I don't think I will watch season 2.
