In this episode, Mai has a resolved & happy ending to her unsettled permanent-family situation, finally! Sometimes CALL the MIDWIFE can be a bit too predictable, sappy, (and unrealistic for the time) in its outcome, but in this case, glad the obvious happened for little Mai. Cancer, step-parents, the continued effects and affects of WWII for its survivors, plus Trixie and Valerie have to go to court, thanks to Val's gma & her back-alley abortion's. Nurse Crane shows us how to encourage unrequited love onto another, while Reggie is really in love and his mom doesn't want his heart broken. Tough subjects. This (season 8) was easily one of the best series/seasons of the show. Though, they're all good, the writing, development & depth of this show keeps getting better. Since it's the hard realities of women's lives and their families that we get an insight into, I'm so glad this show, that is based on a women's journal, has continued to flourish under the direction of more women. Keep it up! It's always hard when a good British tv show season comes to an end after just 8 episodes per year, (we're spoiled here in the U.S. since our seasons avg 21 epi. Per year per show). Look forward to the Christmas special in December 2019 for now! And, hopefully PBS will be showing this new season soon-( today's March 3, 2019).
