Short but painful,
santinokorodaj23 August 2020
Very slow to pick up. No back story for any of the characters, so there's a lot of piecing together. All we know is the main character is a soldier witch hunting, but don't know why exactly and never really find out why. Huge potholes along those lines. The lead is uninviting, unlikable, and without personality, unfortunately he's the only one on film for the majority of this short. It's painfully obvious he's pretending (not acting) to be a soldier, walking with clumsy footing and aiming wildly in every direction. It's off putting since he's supposed to be incredibly skilled and hardened by it as the story tries to tell.

Unfortunately mostly poor acting from the lead brought this movie down. There's no action sequence or thrilling moments to make up for that loss. The story was underdeveloped and also relied too heavily on scenery breakaways and an overly ominous soundtrack. 2 stars because the other actors had personality, but got very little screentime.

Atmospheric and loaded with potential

I kept seeing this pop up on my Amazon prime recommended and I gave in eventuality after reading the blurb.

I would say the story/background/set-up is actually incredibly good, the lore feels to me almost Alien-esque. The cinematography is very good and crisp and the general feel of the film is almost a crossover between Blair Witch/The ritual.

The story is really good and loaded with potential. I would say the final 5 mins are a little disappointing but the ideas and atmosphere built up prior are really good. If you've seen A Dark Song you'll understand what I mean.

It teases a sequel that I would absolutely love to see as the film is in essence a stripped down raw western with supernatural elements.

The acting is solid if a little overdone at times but I think that may be the fault of the dialogue but it serves it's purpose - I feel like it could've done with a little more nuance.

I would recommend this film for watching though as the idea and the execution are both intriguing and it doesn't spoon feed too much.

The best of the best

They exceeded my expectations to die, with the cast, the production, the script, how good that I could see it before dying, it is not only a box office success, but they show us a more human side of fairy tales where the evil one It also has a history of why it is so. Definitely cool.
