Anne Hathaway has insisted 'The Devil Wears Prada' fans "don't need to worry about a sequel".The 41-year-old star reunited with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt - her co-stars from the 2006 fashion blockbuster - on stage at the SAG Awards this week, but she has insisted there are no plans for a follow-up despite author Lauren Weisberger penning 'Revenge Wears Prada'.She told E! News: "I don't think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen."She joked the trio will "continue to give out awards to other people" so fans can still expect more reunions, but rubbished the idea of a sequel. The actress admitted she "would love" to see the trio reunite with diretor David Frankel, but she wants the original movie to stand alone. She said: "The truth of the matter is—with any film—all we can do is make it.

Despite Martin Scorsese teasing a possible collaboration with his “Gangs of New York” star Daniel Day-Lewis, the famed Oscar-winning Method actor is still firmly retired, according to director Jim Sheridan.
Sheridan worked with Day-Lewis on “My Left Foot,” “In the Name of the Father,” and “The Boxer,” with “My Left Foot” landing Day-Lewis one of his three Best Actor Academy Awards. Day-Lewis officially announced his retirement from acting in 2017 with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread” as his last film.
“He says he’s done. I keep talking to him,” Sheridan told ScreenDaily. “I’d love to do something with him again. It’d be great to see Daniel coming back and doing something because he’s so good.”
You know what’s not “so good”? Streaming content — and that medium’s takeover has (further) soured the serious actor on the entertainment business, Sheridan said.

Meryl Streep nearly lost her role in 'The Devil Wears Prada' over fears she wasn't "funny" enough. The Hollywood veteran landed the part of fearsome fashion boss Miranda Priestly in the hit 2006 film opposite Anne Hathaway as her assistant but the movie's producer Wendy Finerman has now admitted she faced some push back for casting Meryl.Speaking during an appearance on the 'Hollywood Gold' podcast, Wendy explained: "Meryl, people thought we were crazy. I mean, I had people call me up and say, ‘Are you out of your mind? She’s never been funny a day in her life.'"But this was clearly a different kind of world for her, and I think that that was part of the fun of the unexpected."Wendy went on to cite that although the actress was mostly known for her serious and dramatic roles, she had also played funny turns...

It's been an interesting year for Hallmark with the premieres of The Way Home and Ride and countless feel-good movies.
Despite initially touting Ride as a success story, the cabler has quietly opted to part ways with the rodeo family drama.
Ride tells the story of a multigenerational family ensemble and follows the lives of the McMurrays, part of a rodeo dynasty going back a generation, as they struggle to keep their beloved ranch afloat.
"After a tragic loss, each character embarks on an empowering journey of transformation and self-discovery while also uncovering a twisted web of secrets, threatening to tear the family and their small Colorado town apart at the seams," Hallmark teased in anticipation of the series debut.
Ride also had a decent cast that came from TV Fanatic fan-favorite series, so there was every indication it would be a success story.

Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines was made specifically for the Paramount+ streaming service, but now it has been announced that Paramount is going to be doing something I wish streaming services would do much more often: while continuing to stream the movie, they will also be giving it a digital, 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release! The digital version will be available for rent or purchase as of December 5th, with the physical media release following on December 19th.
Said to be “based on an untold chapter penned by Stephen King“, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines centers on a young Jud Crandall in 1969, who has dreams of leaving his hometown behind but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to the town. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an...

Walt Disney and Searchlight Pictures has finally taken “Magazine Dreams,” the indie movie starring Jonathan Majors, off its theatrical release calendar for the year.
The movie was meant to open on December 8 following Searchlight acquiring it in a competitive situation out of Sundance, just days after the actor is set to return to court on November 29, but the movie has finally been pulled. No new release date has been set as of this writing.
Searchlight’s “Poor Things” with Emma Stone is also set for release on Dec. 8.
Disney also delayed by a year the releases of its “Snow White” live action remake and the animated “Elio,” both most likely because of strike-related production delays. “Snow White” was set for March 22, 2024 and moves to March 21, 2025. “Elio” was set for March 1, 2024 and moves to June 13, 2025.

San Marcos, Calif – There was an Alan Arkin for every generation. Post World War Two adults may have seen him at Chicago’s “The Second City.” Baby Boomers remember his films “Wait Until Dark” and “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians are Coming” and Gen X saw him in “The In-Laws”, “Glengarry Glen Ross” and his Oscar winning turn in “Little Miss Sunshine.” He even did a Netflix series, “The Kominsky Method.” For every generation, for every form of acting, there was Alan Arkin. He passed away on June 29th, 2023, at the age of 89.
Alan Wolf Arkin was born in Brooklyn, and started acting at age 10. After not graduating from two colleges he joined The Second City in 1960 Chicago, one year after it was founded. His feature film debut was the musical “Calypso Heat Wave” (1957), he debuted on Broadway in a Second City revue and did episodic TV during the 1960s.

Jennifer Lawrence says she’s not always comfortable with Method actors.
While crying over hot wings, the actress said that while she hasn’t worked with anyone who is full Method, it would make her “nervous” to work with them.

Surprising nobody, Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) just took home his first-ever Emmy Award on Sunday night. (See the winner’s list.) His 2021 Emmys win for “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV Plus was expected because he had already claimed victories at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG Awards. Now Sudeikis is in the coveted Best Comedy Actor Emmy club, which just so happens to include his former “Saturday Night Live” co-star Bill Hader, who prevailed twice for HBO’s “Barry.”

Boxing has always been a very cinematic sport, with the its overall rules and the head-to-head mentality providing material for both captivating scripts and impressive visuals. Asian cinema has also been dealing with the concept, even if sporadically, but recently, there has been a surge of titles revolving around boxing, as we are still waiting for Brillante Mendoza’s “Gensan Punch”, which the protagonist, Shogen, having described the shooting as a once in a lifetime experience.

Lucifer posted a repeat win atop Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming rankings, with viewership rising almost 40% as the show wrapped its fifth season.
The supernatural drama series, which began on Fox before shifting to Netflix, racked up more than 1.8 billion minutes of total viewing from May 31 to June 6. That tally increased about 40% from the 1.3 billion it collected in the prior week.
Nielsen said viewers aged 18 to 34 made up more than one-third of Lucifer‘s audience, which skewed a bit female.
In a strong second-place showing, Disney animated feature Raya and the Last Dragon drew almost 1.1 billion viewing minutes. The film entered general release at no charge for Disney+ subscribers in the week, following a run as a Premier Access title costing $30. Viewers ages 2 to 11, not surprisingly, comprised about 38% of viewership, per Nielsen.

The producers behind CBS’ new comedy “The United States of Al” say they understand the backlash the show has received online in the weeks leading to its April 1 debut. After several years of, let’s say, improved taste, the Emmy Awards backslid a bit last year. Sure, it was nice to see Fleabag get the recognition it deserved. But that recognition came along with a Game of Thrones final season onslaught that nobody asked for.

Whether you thought this year’s Emmy nominations were “marvelous” or “schitt,” it’s hard to argue that the frontrunners in Best Comedy Series are “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Schitt’s Creek.” Both shows performed extremely well on Emmy nominations morning, with the former scoring 20 bids vs. 15 for the latter.
With no “Fleabag” in contention this year, “Maisel” is as close as we can get to a defending champion, winning the top comedy Emmy prize in 2018 for its first season. But “Schitt’s Creek” is coming on strong as the little show that could in its final season. Who will emerge victorious in September?
See Full list of 2020 Emmy nominations
Considering how much the Emmys love consistency, it is perfectly reasonable to expect “Maisel” to take home Best Comedy Series for its third season. The Amazon series maintained its acting nominations for Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, Marin Hinkle and...

There’s more TV than ever before, which means there are also more opportunities for performers than ever before. At this point it’s relatively common for an entertainer to be nominated for acting, writing, directing and producing for various projects, but there are multiple stars this year who could be nominated four or more times just in performance categories. For the purposes of this list, I’m not only counting acting in live-action programs but also character voice-overs, narration, and reality hosting awards. And when you add up all those different styles of performance, a few could rise to the top. Who do you think will earn the most acting bids this year?

Bill Pullman, star of the 1996 film “Independence Day,” put out a public service announcement urging people to wear their “freedom masks” this 4th of July.
“Hello, America. I may not be your president right now but I’ve got to tell you, the 4th of July is still my favorite holiday and it always will be,” Pullman said in a video posted to YouTube Saturday.
“This Independence Day, I’m going to be celebrating my freedom in a really important way,” he continued. “I’m gonna be wearing my freedom mask every time I go into public places. That’s right, freedom masks. Because if everybody in America agreed to wear one of these going into public places, we’d be a little closer to being free to safely go back to places like bars and restaurants and schools and most importantly movie theaters.”

A whopping 24 of Gold Derby’s 25 Emmy Experts predict yet another nomination this year for Ted Danson (“The Good Place”) in Best Comedy Actor. Of those two-dozen prognosticators from major media outlets, six think the legendary TV actor will actually win: Jen Chaney (Vulture), Eric Deggans (NPR), Ed Martin (Media Village), Lynette Rice (Ent. Weekly), Ben Travers (Indiewire) and Matt Webb Mitovich (TVLine). It wouldn’t be the first time Danson prevailed for his show’s final season — after all, he did the exact same thing with “Cheers” in 1993.

Danson was nominated seven times for “Cheers” for his role as bartender Sam Malone (1983-89) before finally winning in 1990. He then had two more losses (1991-92) prior to his 1993 victory for the show’s final season. The beloved actor returned to the lead actor category in 2018 and 2019 as a demon named Michael on “The Good Place,...

It’s no secret that one of Emmy’s worst blunders in recent memory was to deny Steve Carell a trophy for his iconic performance as buffoonish boss Michael Scott on NBC’s “The Office.” Indeed, Carell lost Best Comedy Actor six times between 2006 and 2011, just one shy of the category record shared by John Goodman, Hal Linden and Matt LeBlanc. Now that Carell is back in the awards conversation thanks to his Netflix comedy “Space Force,” could Emmy justice finally be served?

Now that last year’s Best Comedy Series Emmy Award champ “Fleabag” is out of the running alongside nominees “Barry,” “Russian Doll” and “Veep” – all of which netted acting nominations at last year’s ceremony – the four main comedy acting races are rather wide open and hence ripe for surprises. In order to discuss which shows and contenders might fill the void, I recently joined Gold Derby contributors Riley Chow and Tony Ruiz in our first comedy acting slugfest of the season (watch above).
With reigning champ Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) out of contention, Ruiz characterizes the Best Comedy Actress battle as a “two-horse race” between Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Catherine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”), who sit in first and second place in our combined odds. The former prevailed for its freshman season in 2018 and followed up her victory with another nom last year, while the latter is coming...

Awards season hit its early stride with tonight’s 77th annual Golden Globe Awards, which kick off this evening on the annual awards show’s earliest date ever (read: you are not just imagining how truncated this year’s awards schedule really is). This year’s ceremony was hosted by returning host Ricky Gervais, who promised yet another evening of Hollywood-centric jabs, perhaps in an attempt to zing up one of the year’s most stuffed ceremonies, thanks to honors for both film and television.
The nominations come from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which is made up of 90 journalists from around the world. Golden Globe film winners include top Oscar prospects like “1917,” “Joker,” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” On the television side, Emmy winner “Fleabag” walked away with a number of big wins, as did HBO standout “Succession.” Left in the cold? “The Two Popes,” “The Irishman,...

When the 77th Golden Globe Awards announce their list of TV winners on Sunday, January 5, look for some of the big names to be HBO’s “Succession,” Amazon’s “Fleabag” and HBO’s “Chernobyl.” The 11 television prizes are often tough to predict as voters don’t usually follow the lead of their older sister, Emmy. Instead, Hollywood Foreign Press Association members tend to gravitate toward the newest shows and hottest stars.
