'Be Cool Scooby Doo' "Vote Velma" (2017)

Opening thoughts: 'Be Cool Scooby Doo' really did not appeal to me on paper at first, having been put off by the animation style. Like has been said before though, this reviewer is glad that she gave it a chance as a big fan of the Scooby Doo franchise, as despite taking a bit of time to find its feet and with no episode being perfect it for me is quite a lot of fun with plenty to like about most of the episodes. Expectations were high for "Vote Velma" due to loving the premise so much, one of the best ones of the show and different for the franchise.

Something that also applied to an episode like "The People vs Fred Jones", another episode that was watched with high expectations and met. While that episode didn't quite surpass the expectations, "Vote Velma", one of the show's best and funniest, did. Thanks to a superior mystery and villain, on top of having the great character moments and constant fun that elevated that episode. And proof that the show should not be immediately discussed because of the animation style, because that is very easy to do and will admit to being guilty of it myself prior to giving it a chance.

Bad things: My low opinion of the animation still stands though, especially the weird and off model character animation and it has always looked rushed to me.

Good things: "Vote Velma" has so much to love about it. For one thing, it is one of the funniest 'Be Cool Scooby Doo' episodes, with so many hilarious character moments and lines that never felt overdone. Love Daphne's quirkiness, as well as that there was more wit than usual between the gang, and Velma is in a situation where it is very easy to get behind her. Really loved too the Oakhaven-like setting and how it was used in a scenario that one doesn't see a lot in the Scooby Doo franchise.

It boasts of the show's stronger mysteries, it is very eventful and full of energy and the necessary amount of creepiness. The reveal is thankfully not obvious. The villain is a real standout here, very creepy with a unique for the franchise's character designs.

The campaign element is very insightful and interesting, never does it sound too complex. The supporting characters and all the character interactions are strong, can never get enough of Shaggy and Scooby. The episode has a lot of energy and atmosphere, while the music is groovy. The voice acting is spot on.

Concluding thoughts: Overall, great.

9/10.
