Rod Holcomb, an Emmy-winning TV director of “ER,” “Lost” and other series, died Wednesday in Los Angeles. He was 80.
Holcomb was best known for directing both the pilot and the series finale of “ER,” winning an Emmy for that farewell episode in 2009. He was nominated four four Primetime Emmys over his career, and also nominated for three DGA awards — winning one in 1995 for the “ER” pilot. Holcomb directed 21 pilots over his career, with the remarkable track record of 15 going to series.
“Every good director will elevate the material on the page. His job is to elevate it visually, to give it the weight of an art form,” Holcomb told Variety in 2011. “In a way, it’s easier to determine with a show that you know very well as a viewer, and if you know the contours and the voice of the show, then you can more easily answer some key questions.

Cowboy Bebop. This classic anime is arguably the reason that many Americans got into anime in the first place. The series was sadly short-lived, though that’s because the creator had only planned for one season. It follows the adventures of Spike Spiegel and his group of Bounty Hunters in the year 2071, who travel on a spaceship, the Bebop. The anime series incorporated plenty of themes throughout the 26-episode arc and has been lauded as some of the best material to land on television. However, times have changed since the debut of the pilot on September 18, 1997, has the

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett is only a few weeks away, marking a major turning point for the fan-favorite character who was originally “killed off” on the big screen in 1983. But now Boba Fett‘s back (played by Temuera Morrison) and teaming up with assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) to take over Jabba the Hutt’s old criminal empire on Tatooine.
According to the trailers released so far, the prime focus of the seven-episode series will be Boba and Fennec’s adventures on the dangerous desert planet and their quest to reunite Jabba’s captains under their banner. But could there be more to this bounty hunter’s book than meets the eye? Certainly, there are more than a few questions this series could answer about the whereabouts of the character since Return of the Jedi. And what does the rest of the Hutt Cartel think about Jabba’s fall?...

Star Wars: Visions brings the galaxy far, far away closer to its Japanese roots with nine anime shorts that introduce plenty of new characters to the saga. There’s Ronin, a lone wanderer with a mysterious past who gets stuck in the middle of a Sith invasion; Karre and Am, twins raised from birth to be powerful in the ways of the dark side; Kara, the daughter of a legendary sword smith who may be the only hope for a new generation of Jedi Knights; and the Elder, an aging master swordsman who travels the galaxy looking for worthy challengers.
But there’s one character in particular who seems to be a standout with fans, and it’s for good reason. After all, she’s the only character in Visions who’s also a humanoid rabbit with a lightsaber. We’re of course talking about Lop,...

Here we are then, the main event. War of the Bounty Hunters has been trailed for quite some time already across the fan press, and we’ve already seen the prelude stuff across the Star Wars, Bounty Hunters, Darth Vader, and Doctor Aphra titles, but this is the book that kicks off the main story for real. It’s a big old ‘event’ as you would expect, running across four titles and several specials until it all wraps up in October. Marvel are putting a lot on Charles Soule’s shoulders with this one. What I particularly like with this storyline is that rather than do the traditional Star Wars thing and write new stories either before or after all the films so as to avoid any potential continuity conflicts, Marvel have dived in and immediately given us...

Freddy Syborn, a writer and co-exec producer on Disney+’s upcoming Ms. Marvel series and co-creator of Jack Whitehall comedy drama Bounty Hunters, is adapting Daniel Cole’s Ragdoll for AMC and UKTV network Alibi.
The series comes from Sid Gentle Films, the British production company behind Killing Eve.
The six-part drama, described as a “modern-day Faustian thriller”, is centred around the murder of six people, whose bodies have been dismembered and sewn into the shape of one grotesque body — nicknamed the ‘Ragdoll’.
Assigned to the shocking case are DS Nathan Rose, recently reinstated to the London Met; his best friend and boss, Di Emily Baxter; and the unit’s new recruit, DC Lake Edmunds. The ‘Ragdoll Killer’ taunts the police by sending them a list of his next victims, with Rose’s name among them. And with those victims to protect, our heroes soon come under intense public scrutiny.

The Umbrella Academy gang is reuniting in a whole new era… and from the looks of this sneak peek, they’re not finding the 1960s to be all that groovy.
Netflix has released the opening scene of Season 2 ahead of this Friday’s premiere, and it finds Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five dropped in a Dallas alleyway on November 25, 1963. But instead of a nation mourning the JFK assassination, he finds the streets overrun by Russian troops and tanks, with a newspaper headline blaring, “Soviets Attack U.S., JFK Declares War on Reds.” Yikes… maybe the assassination saved us from an even worse alternate timeline?...

It’s been a difficult few months for the comics industry, as Covid-19 has virtually brought distribution to a halt, and put many stores at risk of permanent closure. With the main distributor Diamond unable to supply comics, it’s been a stressful time for fans and those running businesses, regardless of size. However, Marvel Comics have now announced that they’re planning to start releasing new issues from Wednesday, May 27th, in what should hopefully be a resumption of some kind of normalcy to the industry.
While it doesn’t seem like Marvel will jump straight back into shipping out its full schedule for distribution, there will be at least some individual titles and trades from the end of May. And here are the books that Marvel are currently aiming to put out on the 27th:
Amazing Spider-man #43 (FEB200924)
Avengers #33 (FEB200982)
Marauders #10 (FEB200894)

The coronavirus pandemic has affected the movie business in a pretty big way, from leaving big cinema chains like AMC on the brink of bankruptcy to countless movie delays, and Jungle Cruise is no different. The Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt Disney adventure has been delayed to 2021 due to the ongoing global health emergency. Disney made the announcement in April, well ahead of the movie’s original July premiere.
Regarding this Disney romp, Johnson‘s big-screen backlog is a proverbial battle royal of major movies, but few are as intriguing given the pedigree of who he’s partnered with (i.e. not Vin Diesel or Jason Statham) as Jungle Cruise. Based on a Disneyland and Disney World riverboat theme park ride, this branded project is clearly designed to recreate the same lucrative ride-to-movie magic of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but with Blunt co-starring in the film, it also...

Watching The Clone Wars for the first time but don't know where to start? Here's a guide to watching the show in chronological order!
When Star Wars made the leap to modern animation in 2008 with the theatrical release of The Clone Wars movie, few fans could have predicted how great its impact would be. The movie, which introduces Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's new Jedi apprentice, became the bedrock for six seasons of a television series of the same name. Built on the conflict first mentioned by Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope in 1977, the animated series dramatizes the Jedi at the height of their power, as the Old Republic slowly turns into an Empire.
Disney and Lucasfilm have revived the show for a new era in 2020, with the seventh (and final) season streaming on Disney+. If you've never watched The Clone Wars and want to binge the...

Based on what we’re hearing from Disney, the seventh and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, now on Disney Plus, will be with us on February 17th, 2020. One of the more challenging aspects of the animated series, though, is that you won’t get a chronological experience by just following the released episode order. Thankfully, then, we now have a correct viewing order courtesy of the official Star Wars site, which tells us all you need to know to catch up on The Clone Wars before its return.
The Clone Wars bridges the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, providing a significant level of detail for anyone wondering what was going on in between the two prequel movies. When aired, episodes could often be bundled together as arcs, linked by one-off episodes that might explore a different part of the galaxy adjacent...

As two of the hottest properties right now, it stands to reason that a crossover between The Mandalorian and Pokémon Sword and Shield would be inevitable.
Disney’s spinoff Star Wars series has already been responsible for securing millions of early subscribers to its Disney+ service, while the latter – let’s just say it’s been selling like hotcakes. Now, we know what you’re thinking – ‘besides absurd popularity, what qualities do the two share?’ You won’t find Jedi, Bounty Hunters or even Sith Lords running around the region of Galar anytime soon, of course, but one fan thinks that a particular character from The Mandalorian is a perfect fit for Sword and Shield.

"Bounty hunting is a complicated profession," and the first trailer for the Disney+ series The Mandalorian proves just how accurate that is. Disney dropped the video for the Star Wars spinoff series at its biannual D23 convention on Aug. 23, and though it doesn't necessarily give any hints to the plot, it definitely provides an idea of what fans have to look forward to. The footage shows the lone warrior known as the Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal) as he navigates the outer reaches of the galaxy, known to now be a lawless post-Imperial world. It also gives brief glimpses of the rest of the show's cast, which includes Gina Carano as Cara Dune and Carl Weathers as Greef, as well as Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, and Omid Abtahi.

Sky is developing a police comedy starring Rogue One’s Daniel Mays from Broadchurch and Tin Star indie Kudos.

Exclusive: Doctor Who fans rejoice… David Tennant and Catherine Tate are set to be back on screen together in Americons, a new series being developed by His Dark Materials producer Bad Wolf for Sky.
The scripted comedy drama, which is being written by Tate, who previously starred in NBC’s The Office, follows the pair as they move to the United States. It is thought to be in the advanced stages of development for Sky One.
The pair first starred together in The Runaway Bride, the 2006 Christmas special of the BBC sci-fi series, before becoming the Doctor’s regular partner for the fourth season starting in 2008. They subsequently worked together on stage in a British theater performance of Much Ado About Nothing in 2011 and most recently have both worked on the reboot of Disney’s animated series of DuckTales, where Tate voices the character of villainous sorceress Magica De Spell and Tennant voices Scrooge McDuck.
