Sexist, fake drama filled terribleness! Worst than Ink master! Don't release another season till it's fair judging.
StoneBrothersProduction19 October 2017
This show is a little sexist from what I have seen so far. The past two tattooers for the past two shows they favor the women, even though the others tattoo better. This is too much in my opinion. Next time make a show and not be as sexist and I will watch it, but other than that improve your judging. It is as rigged as Ink Master and I just watch Ink master to see the amazing artists at work and see how they do under pressure.

Fun but felt biased
bretleversha27 June 2021
Fun competition that felt biased, it seemed the Angels were more likely to vote for each other's tattoos &, in some instances, I felt they eliminated the best tattooist of the group just because they didn't want to vs them. Overall worth a watch.

Love the Angels

... But Doty shaking her head "NO MORE TATTOOING!" is super silly. 0 of 10 for that. 10 of 10 for the rest of the show! Holding contestants feet to the fire is the best part! We're need more episodes... No matter what Peck did it didn't do! (Which was nothing actually) Thank you ladies!

More fake drama
dakotaspoo25 January 2021
Why can't it just be about the art? What "real" person comes into a shop, full of strangers and calls them losers? I detest the confrontational scripted and lame dialog. Just shut up and tattoo.

Pathetic Trash
Johnny_West20 November 2023
Nikki Simpson, the vile creature that was always verbally abusing the men on her season of Ink Master, is here as one of the Angels? What kind of angel could she be? She kept telling everyone she was 24 years old, and it was Boneface that pointed out that she looked 50. In fact, she was 43.

Add in the android Ryan, who thinks and acts like she is the only one that matters, and it is a super-obnoxious show.

Gia Rose and Kelly Doty are the two hosts who have human personalities. They are fun and nice to listen to. Unfortunately, they hardly get to talk, because Ryan talks over everyone, and Nikki is her sidekick. Not surprising that Gia Rose did not return for season 2.

If you like ink master...
ric-2370911 October 2017
This new spin off, from the original ink master, is a refreshing change from the sometimes overplayed "reality TV" segments of the original show. The 4 girls that are "the Angels", are going from city to city, where local artists face off against each other, then the winner chooses which of the 4 girls they want to face in the final showdown, which is judged by, the 2 local competitors already beaten, the other 3 angels, and the locals from that city, who spectate the last 6 hour tattoo being done. I happen to like Dave Navaro, but the girls aren't quite as stiff, and after watching ever season, in my opinion, at least 3 of these girls produced some of the most amazing skin art I have ever seen. If the local contestant beats the angel, they secure themselves a spot on Ink Master season 10. It is early days yet, but it has a lot more promise than the "redemption" series. IF YOU LIKE INK MASTER, then I really think this is worth a look!!

I would give it a 0 if it was an option.
mmalegend-1974928 November 2017
I have never reviewed anything on IMDb but this show was just so bad that I had to express my distaste. The show is just horribly cheesy, and seriously unfair. Anybody that has a brain can see that the shows rules and structure just don't work. Also, some people are just not meant to be on TV, all three girls are just so fake and cheesy. Hope they fix this and create something worth watching.

Huge fail.

If you liked the women from season 8, you'll probably like this
abraz1516 November 2017
People who think this show is sexist probably haven't experienced much sexism in their day-to-day life... If you like Ink Master, and you like the women from season 8, then you'll probably like this. You get to see some great tattoos and some cool locations. It does feel a little awkward at times, but I expect that will wane once they get solid footing in the show.

Fake
lreddmann15 November 2017
So bad, I can't even think of a word to describe it. Started off to be promising, then it took a dive. Everything seems fake, fake judging, fake acting, fake winning, it's just horrible. I expected more by seeing who the hosts were, but they are better at being a tattoo artists than hosting this show, don't quit your day job!

I feel some past reviews have been a bit harsh... but this show does really stink
jackr00317 December 2017
This is the first review I have ever done on IMDB so I signed up specifically for this one.

I will start by saying that I love tattoos and have watched every episode of every season of Ink Master, including Ink Master Angels and without a doubt this is the worst of the bunch. I am not sure why I kept watching after the first episode, it may be that I secretly enjoy being enraged by awful and cringeworthy television or a simple obsession with completion. But I would go as far as to say this rivals 'best ink' for the worst tattoo competition on TV.

They made a nice effort to make this show seem a bit slicker than it really is with the opening credit sequence. But honestly it brings the saying about ones ability to polish a turd to mind.

Personally I feel this season has had the worst talent by far but that is not the reason I am writing this review.

My main objection is the cookie-cutter approach to fake scripted drama and character types. The 'spontaneous' banter between provocative competitors is absolutely cringeworthy. And the rapid turnabout face of seemingly seething competitors after being informed they are needed for the prestigious position of judging really highlights how fake it is.

The angels themselves are talented artists, some more than others but their ability to act and carry a tv show really stinks. It is this lack of acting chops that exposes the template style dialogue between rounds and during the judging segments.

Throughout all seasons of Ink Master there is obviously scripted or manufactured conflict as well as over the top characters voicing extreme outrage. But that is just the nature of reality TV in general. But in this series I think they tried to crank it up a little too far.

For me Ink Mater Angels is really awful and the calibre of most of the artists leaves me less than excited about the potential for the next series. Personally I thought some of the eliminated artists were far better than those who 'won'. Also the most basic search on Instagram will find artists from all over the world that could easily win any series of Ink Master so I hope that the producers make more of an effort to include high calibre artists in the upcoming series. However I believe that because this is cheap reality TV (cheap to make) that high calibre artists are unwilling to forego their earning potential for the time required to be on the show.

One thing I have found myself openly mocking since the first time I saw it is the Kelly Doty 'Stop Tattooing head shake'. I think Kelly Doty is an amazing artist and seems like a really cool person, but that attempt at a catchphrase is really silly.

The pro-female agenda of this show is forced down the viewers throats a lot during the series too but that is far from the worst thing about this show. There are many amazing female artists around the world so for me the whole premise of the show seems a little redundant. It makes me question whether the show would even exist if Ryan wasn't a model wearing skimpy dresses with her boobs nearly popping out in every episode (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Unsurprisingly TERRIBLE
nekkidnorman19 October 2017
Take all the worst parts of recent Ink Master seasons and add in a metric ton of sexism and you've got the "Angels" series.

Ink Master has declined in recent years but rather than fix the issues the producers have just added MORE of the same problems. The biased judging (it should be blind), the fake drama, the scripted altercations, the sexist alliance, the inconsistent adherence to the judging criteria, the predetermined outcome (HAD to have a female winner, regardless of who deserved it more), Dave Navarro (I still can't believe someone thought viewers would enjoy seeing Dave hanging from hooks!), etc. etc etc.

Nunez comes across as a pompous ass. Dave Navarro isn't a tattoo artist (or even a visual artist) and is a terrible judge. Peck is the only reasonably decent judge.

The producers need to switch to blind judging, with a predefined criteria that is strictly adhered to. I'd even suggest a number scoring system where every tattoo is given number (1-10?) for the different aspects (i.e. application, design, line work, consistency, shading, color/grayscale, placement/fit to body, and 30 points for overall appearance) and then the winner is the person with the highest score and the lowest score goes home (regardless of past tattoos). Give the judges each 1 save per season to prevent someone's off day from sending them home (or just 1 save total?). The season finale tattoos would be scored the same way and would account for 50% with the report card counting for the other 50% of the determination of the season winner.

At no time should a non-artist have a part in judging. No Navarro votes, no public votes (which is just a popularity contest), etc. Artists should be the ones determining the winner based solely on the artwork contestants complete. If producers want to fix the judging, they should have 10 respected artists blindly judge all the completed tattoos. Utilize Navarro, Nunez, and Peck and mentors and hosts, but not as judges.

Anyway, back to Angels... Last season of Ink Master (with all the angels) was horrid. I didn't think it was possible but this show is actually even worse. Luckily, the first season of Angels will also be the last (there's zero chance this pile of stinking poo gets renewed).

Angels Should Have Continued
sugarqueen229 September 2021
When I tried to watch this series on Spike, it was hit and miss. However, these women are a powerhouse in tattooing, and I think this should be brought back.

really an awful premise
ttunderbridge8 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
three losers and one former winner of inkmaster get to hand pick their competition and then get the final say so on who beats them.

would be much better if the competition were fair.

have watched several episodes where they CLEARLY chose the worst artist to advance.

Terrible, unfair, awful
adotb28 June 2020
0 if I could... This is so terrible, unfair. A person need to beat an Angel that have been on Ink Master that knows everything, how it is, what they are looking at etc. the "Angels" think they are superheros that knows everything + I looked at an episode now, the fighters tattoo was much MUCH better than the Angels, but who won? The Angel. Ex. they both are gonna do a big realism tattoo of a tree with leaves, big flowers, with faces (family) + kids playing. The fighter do it perfect, and the Angel just do a tree with faces (that looks like an 3 year old have done) but still, who win? the Angel ofc....

Lost all credit in just 1 episode
zrrobert24 February 2018
The goal is to have a better tattoo than 1 Angel...to get thrir you need to win against other artistd...The Angels decide what style of tattoo need to be done ..than judges the artists on that style until only 1 artist remains that will go head to head against a Angel...Today's challenge was American Traditionnal..1 artist did the tattoo in that style and the other artist did not..so you would think that the artist that respected and exacuted that style should win hansdow..but no...they gave the win to the other artist that did not do American Traditionnal...because the tattoo look better..why a challenge if youre not gona reinforce it..just tell the tattoo artist to do whatever they want..Total BS...its always like this when you try to create a sideshow of a big hit tattoo show..waste of my time and energy..no credit given..total joke..

sexism -prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on the basis of sex
laughnowcrylterr31 May 2018
The man bashing on this show is getting really out of control.when you go out if the way to make the female contestant win or hell even look normal and the men edited to look like scumbags and sub par humans theirs a problem. every week they find a new social issue to exploit for no reason just because the show wasn't bad enough. i love the co hosts they have great personalities and work well together and ryan is dropped dead beautiful but that can only go so far ..

Terrible show with terrible "hosts"
On_The_Mark18 January 2022
First off, only Ryan and Kelly are good enough to really be judging people's art - the other two were supremely average artists. That said, how many times can they try to find a way to say "they're all so good, this will be really hard" (Every. Single. Episode).

A lot of incredibly phony drama (the fake drama on this show makes Inkmaster look like The Godfather) and bad hosts who have no business hosting a TV show make this a hard watch. I didn't watch all the episodes. I like good artwork and saw a few but the "hosts" were unbearable.

Kelly is the only likeable person on the show and even she gets hard to watch after a while in this format.

And this is just a personal opinion, I know Ryan is supposed to be "hot" but I don't get it. She looks like a zombie to me. Again, I know other people love her. Not me. And who gets a tattoo of wheat?

Ryan did not deserve the title of Ink Master.

This show is so disjointed, she is even more arrogant in this disjointed show.

She walks around as if she never releases a stink.

0 stars.

Unbiased review, would of rated 4.5/10 if i could
chargers-7512320 December 2017
Okay so aside from the silly 1/10 reviews which are just absurd and hurt our case for the chance of our voices being heard so actual changes could be made to the industry. YES THE INDUSTRY. I watch Ink master,Master chef, Hells kitchen etc. All of these shows scream blatantly rigged/pushing an agenda. Literally a combination of both which is all reality tv/tv in general is nowadays, enough about that and on to the review, i don't quite remember the exact episode but when gia rose lost in the beginning,it was so obviously rigged, she had a better tatt 100% after that it ruined the credibility of the show for me personally, i can compare this to hells kitchen (current season) robin the gay gal she is putting up 1/5 dishes every week and other folks who do better go home, the blatant rigging in these so called "competition" shows needs to be addressed. It's gotten too obvious. They also had nikki simpson take a loss which i thought was b.s she had a better tatt in that episode as well. THIS SHOW LIVES BASED ON THE FACT THAT THEY NEED ENOUGH CONTESTANTS FOR THE NEW SEASON OF INK MASTER, SO YEA OF COURSE THEY ARE GONNA RIGG THIS PILE OF CRAP, THEY WOULD NEVER LET THE ANGELS GET A CLEAN SWEEP. THINK ABOUT IT
