Creators have been hiding Easter eggs in media for at least half a century now. You might recall that video game designers hid secret outcomes in early computer games like 1973’s Moonlander and 1980’s Adventure. In fact, it’s former Atari software director Steve Wright who gets credit for calling such secrets “Easter eggs.” Other Atari bosses were angry that Adventure designer Warren Robinett hid his name in a level of the game, but not Wright. “I said, ‘No, this is great! It’s an Easter egg in the game, and the kids love finding it. We should encourage all of the game programmers to add Easter eggs to all their games,’” Wright later recalled, per Paste. Easter eggs are all over television, too. Sometimes they hint at future plot twists. Sometimes they seem like throwaway details until years later. Sometimes they connect disparate-seeming stories into a shared universe. And...

In the film from director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, “Deep within the 100-Acre-Wood, a destructive rage grows as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Tigger find their home and their lives endangered after Christopher Robin revealed their existence. There haven’t been all that many Easter-themed horror movies over the years, with most fans agreeing that Mick Garris’ Critters 2 still remains the definitive Easter horror movie.
It’s not the only one, of course, with the “Easter” segment of horror anthology Holidays being a personal favorite of mine. But the pickings for Easter horror are slim, to say the least.
The good news? A brand new Easter horror movie has added itself to the mix this week, with the indie effort Easter Bloody Easter now available for rental on VOD outlets.
The bad news? Well, it’s probably not very good. In fact, Geof Capodanno gave the film just 2 stars in his review for Bloody Disgusting, which you can read right here.
Geof writes, “You can tell the film is a passion project with a limited budget, and everyone is having a blast making it. While that is always commendable,...

Christmas and Halloween reign supreme in terms of holiday-themed horror to the point that every other holiday pales in comparison when it comes to horror offerings. Easter does have a few selections to offer, but many of them don’t lean into any familiar holiday motifs. Then there are the horror films that get lumped in simply because the villain bears likeness to the Easter bunny. It can be slim pickings. That’s okay, though, because we really only need one solid horror movie to celebrate Easter with. One that isn’t afraid to spill some Easter bunny blood.
Critters 2: The Main Course is that definitive Easter horror movie.
Co-written by David Twohy (Warlock, Pitch Black) and director Mick Garris (The Stand, Masters of Horror), Critters 2 makes clever use of the holiday as a means to implement those remaining Crite eggs stashed away in a barn from the end of Critters.

Ari Aster is reflecting on the “stunted” release of his third film “Beau Is Afraid.”
The “Midsommar” director told Vanity Fair that the A24 film found an “indifferent” audience instead of moviegoers fully engaging with the “divisive” film starring Joaquin Phoenix as a nervous man who embarks on a journey of traumatic self-discovery.
“The film ends on a theater just very gradually emptying out over the credits, with a very indifferent audience. I wasn’t quite ready for just how prophetic that ending was going to be,” Aster said. “It occurred to me in retrospect. I knew where this was headed. Right. And that’s part of the point.”
He continued, “One thing that excites me about ‘Beau’ is that there are certain things that I buried in that film that still haven’t been talked about, and I was kind of disappointed by the way people were maybe engaging...

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
Ahsoka Episode 5
Welp, it looks like we’re going to have to wait another week (at least) until we see the long awaited, endlessly teased return of Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka’s fifth episode, “Shadow Warrior,” taking place almost entirely on Seatos, offering nary a glimpse of wherever Sabine and Morgan’s crew zipped off to, may be more than a little upsetting for some.
But beyond contributing to the agonizing anticipation of what we’ll find beyond “the jump,” in so many ways this episode is one of the most artful, cinematic, polished of the series so far. It’s written tastefully, and some of the most profound messages are conveyed with touches as understated as a slouch in posture or a knowing smile. And the ending leaves us on an uplifting note that invokes what made the Original...

What would spooky season be without the Sanderson Sisters? Thanks to Freeform, we’ll never have to find out.
The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 18 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus, as well as its 2022 sequel, as many times as you’d like with a Disney+ subscription, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?...

Love is dead. Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s highly private relationship has reportedly ended after six years. The pair have kept a low but loving profile throughout their relationship, a true feat for someone as globally famous as Swift. Her music, however, became a place for the award-winning singer-songwriter to offer intimate glimpses into how their relationship had developed and grown over the years. They even wrote songs together during quarantine, with Alwyn credited as “William Bowery” on her acclaimed 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore.

Last night’s Saturday Night Live featured their own version of Easter, which showed former president Donald Trump attending Jesus’s Last Supper.
Poking fun at Trump’s recent indictment, SNL’s opening sketch featured Jesus, played by Mikey Day, gathering his apostles for an important conversation before being overshadowed by their unexpected guest.
“One of you will betray me,” Day said as Jesus. “And though I have committed no crime, I will be arrested, tried and found guilty,” Jesus continued before Judas, played by Molly Kearney, responded in disbelief “What?” as the other apostles gasped.

Black Easter (2021)
Director: Jim Carroll
Stars: Morgan Roberts, Ilsa Levine, Lamar Usher, Gerardo Davila
Is There A Plot?
Young genius Ram Goldstein accidentally invents time travel, only to see his scientific breakthrough immediately stolen by Muslim terrorists who want to go back 2,000 years and murder Jesus Christ. (Spoiler alert: Jesus dies.)
What’S The Damage?
After so many years doing this, it’s rare that a movie manages to surprise me with its insanity, so let us give thanks for the miracle that is Black Easter. There’s just something so special about watching a film made for Christian audiences where their Lord and Savior is executed at point blank range by a special forces mercenary who says this line:
I cannot believe Belfast won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay over this.
With its twisty time traveling and absolutely bonkers plot, Black Easter is like a a two-hour episode...

This month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies. Some selections reflect a specific day or event in April, and others were chosen at random.
Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s offerings include an anthology, a creature-feature, some found footage, and two slashers.
The House of the Dead (1978)
Directed by Sharron Miller.
The House of the Dead — also known as Last Stop on 13 Street and Alien Zone — is an American stab at an Amicus-style anthology film. Shot in Oklahoma with students from Osu, this low-budget horror omnibus does a creditable job of capturing the macabre spirit of The House That Dripped Blood and The Vault of Horror.

This Star Wars review contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3: Chapter 19
What’s become increasingly clear about The Mandalorian season 3 is that it feels deliberately paced and plotted, with much of these early chapters being devoted to setup for bigger, more raucous moments and reveals down the line. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It’s impossible to tell at this point if all of these moving plot pieces will ultimately assemble in a satisfying way, but so far, the story is developing nicely and revisiting some intriguing characters and locales to give them more space to breathe.
The episode, aptly titled “The Convert,” picks up right where “The Mines of Mandalore” left off, with Din Djarin coming to moments after Bo-Katan Kryze rescued him from the depths of the Living Waters, where she witnessed with her own eyes the majesty of a living,...

Welcome to the Ghostface Glossary, a guide to every horror reference and nod throughout the first five films of the Scream franchise.
After a lot of pausing, rewinding, and zooming in, as well as researching, we’re catching all of the many horror-specific references Williamson, Craven, and Co. included in this beloved postmodern slasher franchise. If we’ve forgotten any glaring ones, kindly let us know.
This guide will exclude homages from previous Scream films and their respective sequels— we’re only looking at outside horror franchises and inspirations, because any red-blooded Ghostface fan is likely already aware of those. (Goes without saying that the beloved faux franchise ‘Stab’(s) 1-8 will also not be counted, since, even though our neon green ‘Stab’ t-shirts and mock VHS tapes feel very real, it’s still a very fake franchise). If we’ve forgotten any glaring ones, kindly let us know.
