Good casting, beautifully shot, but a story thst just meandered as if it was made up as it went along.
Can't say I cared about a single character...whether they were real, dreamed, or possessed.

Favorite episode out first five so far.

Easily the best episode out of the three and Christina Hendricks needs an award.

Seriously, if this doesn't win Christina Hendricks a Golden Globe or an Emmy I don't know what will, she was absolutely brilliant, the rest of the cast was really good too, this one is without a doubt the best out of the three stories, it's also the wackiest and the most dream like one, so some people might not like it that much, the aesthetics were impeccable and the writing and directing were also brilliant, it deserves a 10/10.
What the ??????

Really liked the first episode and found the second mildly entertaining, but what is this? I feel a bit cheated, as though the writers and producers had no respect for the audience. The story never came together and the motivation was just not there. These people were either the cruelest people on earth, the most conniving people on earth, or the most self-absorbed, unaware people on earth. I don't know which, and frankly I don't the creative team on this episode do, either. Horrible story.
Matt Weiner meets The Twilight Zone

Warning: Spoilers
Submitted for your approval: An episode of The Romanoffs that you think will be pretty predictable, but then it ends up as twisted as a top-rated episode of The Twilight Zone. The feeling is like driving a mini car that gets broadsided by a tractor trailer rig.
And that is what you get with this episode.
As another reviewer said, Christina Hendricks is totally brilliant as an actress on assignment in Austria, playing the Russian Empress Alexandra. Her character has supposedly lost her mother recently, and that is hinted at early, only we learn of it later. And what ensues is what seems to be a descent into madness.
Or is it?
We really don't know.
And it makes the episode that much scarier.
The rest of the cast, especially Isabelle Huppert, is great as well. So is the location. I admit it doesn't hurt to know something about Russian history, and I have learned it well. That said, a very inspired episode!

Enjoyed the first a lot, and I was willing to go along with the second, although it was somewhat different, but this third one was just too frickin' bizarre. Really, ideally a series should be attracting a certain audience. This episode is for a diametrically opposed audience than the first episode. Not sure I want to tune in for more.
Bravo

A historical drama within a historical fiction drama, strongly influenced by the horror genre, with a dash, I would argue, of David Lynch. As the lines between reality and fiction continue to blur, we sadly learn the pitfalls of acting and inspiration. Isabelle Huppert is simply brilliant.
Aptly Spooky

What an absolute genius of an episode. Rarely do you find yourself so deeply drawn into the plot with such a nuanced screenplay. Dark, ominous & nerve wrecking if one is able to able to immerse themselves into the mood of Christina's character. Left with a melancholic despair by the end of it. Thank heavens for director's like Matthew!!
What was that supposed to be.....

Contrived entertainment brilliance

It's not often in today's television series I see such revenance to artistry and intlegence. This episode takes the viewer into a sureal world of danger and intrigue. Every moment luring one deeper and deeper into such fantasy, almost as if one has entered a game, with no escape. This story could not be more compelling. Precise acting and cinematography.
very entertaining

What were they thinking?
Rocket20225 October 2018
The beginning of this episode was good, then it just got weird, and went directly into the ridiculous! The main actress, Christina Hendricks was excellent, and Paul Reiser was entertaining, but the story writing was so stupid, it was more a work of abstract improv, than actually telling a story. If you like this series, do yourself a favor, and skip this episode. This is just a "what were they thinking kind of episode?".
Bad, really bad

The first one was brill then... weird now weirder
AppaloniaR22 February 2019
The first episode was really good I thoroughly enjoyed it. The second one was pointless and weird. This one was jumbled up, a mess, just plain weird what was the point? Hope the next one is like the first one. Want to keep with it to see another episode like that...
Twilight Zone remake?

I will premise this with the first two episodes were great! Ifelt like the series was leading us somewhere ashed i was excited to find out where.
However, this episode made no sense. I'm unsure if it was supposed to be a history lesson or just a filler episode with homage to the Twilight Zone series of the 60's...
A complete failure.
