Non-Stop Funny
timbirtv26 January 2018
Even though the episode doesn't directly reference anything from the 80s, I would argue that it is one of the most successful, and consistently funny episodes to date. I don't know if it is because the dinner reminds me so much of how my family behaves in a restaurant, or if the writing itself is just hilarious, but I could not stop laughing. I especially appreciate how the writers were willing to go outside of their comfort zone in terms of the episode's format, and am looking forward to watching a new episode every week. Fantastic!

I've recently discovered The Goldbergs and I LOVE IT! This episode is, by far, one of my favorites! HOW can ANYONE not find this funny? Yes, it's a bit on the nutty side, but EVERYONE is great in this.

Hysterical.....

One of my favorite episodes! A non-stop train of hilariousness! I lost it when Geoff said..." and your mom turned her handbag into a mini fridge!...". And when pops, (played by the great George Segal) kept visiting all the patrons at the other tables.... totally reminded me of my mom! Great episode!!

Highlight of the season

Season 5 was off to a slow start. All of the previous episodes weren't bad, but nothing great....until this episode. This is one of, if not the best episode of the series so far. Hilarious gags, excellent writing, and believable situations. Each of the characters' worst, yet funniest traits are on display.

Dinner with the Family from hell!

I rated this episode 9/10. I'm not saying everything that was done was great as human beings, but it sure did make me laugh out loud. The were some scenes that made me remember some embarrassing moments, dinning out with family. And by that, I felt nostalgic, and loved the fact that they are other family members out there that are even more embarrassing. I'll remember this episode as a highlight for this show.

A bad misfire from the Goldbergs
ryangcassidy1 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Normally this show is consistently funny and warm hearted (if a little eccentric - however this episode just makes them out to be utter horrors - rude, arrogant and at times sounding almost a borderline Jewish 'mean and avaricious' trope. The basic premise sees the 'Bergs heading out for a meal to celebrate Erica's birthday - chaos promptly ensues.

Some of the gags are funny, but a lot of the time the family just seem horrible - it's funny watching Bev harrasing teachers, its less fun watching her being cruel to mininum wage waiters and generally being a jerk. A few gags seemed really uncomfortable - Bev stealing other people's food, the family sending food back for no reason, and haggling over the bill - the last one seemed more like a bad stereotype than a joke. The best scene is where Geoff is finally pushed over the edge and calls the entire family out for being obnoxious but even that falls flat as the family pretty much ignore him!!

Poor effort from the writers and the voice over at the end just adds insult to injury - wittering on about love when in fact the family would likely be barred from every restaurant in town if they really behaved like this!!

Warning: Spoilers
I usually laugh out loud watching this show, but this episode had me just reliving every single horrible person I have ever had to wait on. Sure, they can all be pretty arrogant at times, but in this episode, they were all rude, disgusting, trash!( except for Geoff and Erica)Even Pops was being a jackass! And in the beginning, when I saw Murray literally trying to lay down on people I just couldn't believe it! I never thought that I would ever rate one of these episodes so low, but it just was just so unfunny.

Ouch!

I hope this cringe-fest isn't a sign of things to come. I generally enjoy the show, but this one pushed passed the tipping point. Had to shut it off.

stupid

Did not laugh at all. It was so ridiculous that they act that crazy at the restaurant. Not funny, just very irritating. There's a half hour I'll never get back. Narration was exact rip off from Wonder Years. Will never watch again.
