She's our dick!

A great ending to a great first season, love the characters and the storyline. A great sense of humor and 90s vibes, living for the soundtrack.

Unexpected goosebumps

The end scene sent shivers over my body for some reason. Not what I expected from a comedy show but all the same not unwelcome. Happiness contrasted by the atrocities of the civil conflict and a great song playing. The show is excellent.

The greatest episode of TV in history

Warning: Spoilers
SO many themes are dealt with in this one <30 minute episode (homophobia, bullying, terrorism and censorship to name a few) but at no times does it feel forced. While it's dramatised for the screen, it could still easily be a day in the life of a Derry teenager in the 90s.

Nicola Coughlan does a fantastic job of portraying a lesbian teenager in an unaccepting and heavily religious society, and her coming out scene is the right mixture of hilarious, wholesome and heartbreaking. Well done Nicola, doing Galway proud!

The final scene with the talent show overlapping onto the new coverage perfectly shows the teenagers' innocence, with Sister Michael's expressions fully portraying how she envies their youth and fears for the changes they are about to face.

What an episode. Not a thought was spared on the writing.

What a Stunner

I began watching this show because the coming out scene in this episode went viral on social media. I expected a good comedy from it but it has been great so far! This episode, without uttering a single syllable, spoke volumes on themes of identity, fear, change, and acceptance. Especially that last scene with the interposition of the grave news viewing and the girls having fun was something that touched me deeply. It is up there with the comedies that I watch and expect to just be funny but have very sentimental discussions of serious topics (Ted Lasso and Bojack). This was a truly fantastic episode of television!

Quite a Moving Presentation

Erin takes over the school newspaper when the previous girl is ill. She is ostracized because the others say she is being insensitive to the previous girl. She is deserted by her staff and has to do the whole thing with her friends. She takes an anonymous letter from a lesbian girl, dealing with her tribulations, and publishes it because she has no material. It causes a huge commotion. I am leaving out Orla's possible Olympic aspirations in step aerobics. And a really funny ending at a talent show. The issues are so sad in many ways, but the girls keep their upper lips as stiff as possible. A great conclusion to the first season.
