Disappointing: too much yada yada yada, no story

Maybe I had high expectations from knowing Matt D'Avella (the director) youtube channel and his neat filming style plus being an entertaining storyteller.

You can watch it if you are really (really) into the topic: pretty sure you'll be happy to listen to some interesting and accomplished pros who have been delivering great stuff. Interviews are A+

But:

  • they should have added "Digital" to the title.

I was expecting some cool examples from the "real/analog" world (see tesla) but nothing. They mention the iphone but only as a path into the world of apps that followed and the necessity to work on a smaller screen. Disappointing.

  • the editing is uncomfortably sloppy.

I get it. There's no host to follow in the quest of understanding the importance of design. There is simply no story and this is the main sin. So what can an editor do? Utilize same old trite wide shots and so on I guess they got from a stock footage provider. I'm pretty sure I spotted the exact same 2 clips within 10 min, on top of that.

  • it is not clear what these designers "disrupted".

The part about Lyft is an exception: they describe a bit of the issues with the taxi industry... but not in depth. The Facebook guys have some interesting takes on the necessity to connect to different people around the world... the rest is just bla bla bla. No matter their qualifications, it gets boring pretty soon.
