Meh

How original and interesting is an iconic character like Annie Wilkes?

Now how interesting is another zombie apocalypse, and howmany versions of those have we seen in the last 10 years? 364?

This 2nd season's first half was almost all about a well done origin story of the iconic and classic character Annie Wilkes. Which was so well done by writers and actress I was in constant danger of falling off the edge of my seat! Now in the second half of this season I have watched the focus gradually just completely switch from Annie Wilkes to another zombie-fest. Untill in this episode I see Annie just completely vanish among the other characters and I'm thinking: well, she might just as well be Liza Minelli or Katie Couric now, it wouldn't make one damn piece of difference no more. This episode just had me laying back in my chair, putting in some work to keep my attention there.

I'll give the writers a slight benefit of doubt since they did such a great job in the first half of this season. Maybe they have an awesome Annie Wilkes focussed surprise for me in the upcoming last episode. But the way things are right now I'm not counting on it. As it is, I will be around for the last episode just to see if 'they' still managed to escape the zombies or not and I will probably be thinking: meh.

EDIT: I have upped my rating from 6 to 8 because they did it!! The final episode made everything right, so I take back my complaints about this episode!

The Episode Was Saved At The End
farrahad-9065212 December 2019
This episode didn't fit well with the rest of the series. A gun battle with an army of 400 year old undead villagers seems a bit silly. However I appreciate what the writers did with Pop's character at the end of the episode. Because of that I'm bumping what was a 6/10 episode up to a solid 8/10.

Misery meets Cell in the King multiverse
kenneth-mooney4 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Why are people complaining about the zombies? Haven't you all worked out yet that this is the Stephen King multiverse smashing together on a new level of The Dark Tower??

If you have read ANY of his books you'll know this isn't an 'Annie Wilkes' origin story, this isn't the same Annie Wilkes from Misery (50 years too late for one thing) nor is it the same Ace Merrill from The Body, or the same Pop Merrill from The Sun Dog. It's an alternate universe and do you think it's any coincidence that Bill Skaarsgard is the dark mischief maker, who was caged for TWENTY SEVEN YEARS in Season 1... ? Holy moly people, go read King then come back and rewatch the show.

Caveat Emptor

Warning: Spoilers
It wasn't a perfect episode of TV, but it was violent, it was gripping and it felt like there were real consequences. That is the formula for an entertaining hour of television.

OK
beloved-men-wept5 December 2019
Well things are still going to sh8 in a hurry at the rock - with no less than a dozen murders in this episode... I suppose that is what the minds of the viewers for these sorts of programs are excited by - but the level of violence has increased with every episode, and now is all that is holding together what was could have been a story, and I am finding that my interest has suffered to the point where i simply want to see the end of this series, rather than to see what happens next ! Caveat Emptor indeed.

"I thought we'd be killing each other by now, like civilized human beings."
classicsoncall22 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode provides a bit of a breather from the prior intense shows, with the principal characters mainly fighting off the zombie-like citizens of Castle Rock under the spell of Ace Merrill/Augustin (Paul Sparks). Annie (Lizzy Caplan) stabbing the eyes of Jamal (Isayas Theodros) with a hypodermic needle might have been the most gruesome act of the entire series, very cringe worthy. I thought it was interesting that the character of Chance (Abby Corrigan) wound up in an alliance with Nadia (Yusra Warsama), Abdi (Barkhad Abdiand) and Pop (Tim Robbins); I figured her for a loner except for her attraction to Joy (Elsie Fisher). Hopefully the last episode brings it all together, especially regarding the satanic influence of The Kid (Bill Skarsgård).

What a drag
coolliegal45 December 2019
This episode is the worst so far. It dragged and dragged to the point where my brain started to fall asleep from watching such a dull, boring episode. Sure there are some scenes with excitement but it's lacking depth here. Right now I just want to see how it all ends, I don't care too much about what's taking place anymore. People complained about season 1 being boring but those same people might say this episode was even more boring than any castle rock episode ever. The pace is very slow and not much was revealed so it felt like the writers didn't know what to do but use this as a filler.

Zombie zombies zombies
akselchristofferwiig6 December 2019
This show has gone from being creepy and claustrophobic to a action packed zombie movie. Barricaded inside with a horde of "brain dead" angel followers is not very creepy. I really don't feel like gun fights and explosions belong here. Just end this season soon please.

I've enjoyed Season 2...
spin_orbit6 December 2019
The focus on Annie and Joy made the first half of the season spectacular. Sadly this episode reverted it to a cliche Walking Dead style body count and the back story of the adopted kids and father seems tacked on and isn't that compelling in a Stephen King story. I'm hoping the producers realize how engaging Lizzy Caplan's screen time was for the audience and has carried much of the material, having her character feature so little in this episode I like others was simply waiting for it to finish. Here's hoping for a strong finale and this was the needed filler to bridge the conclusion of Season 2. Still love the show.

Very slow episode
kathylill5 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was very slow, possible bottle episode. The building they're running through seems to be endless but when you see the outside it's not that big. The only thing that mattered was in the last 3 mins. Worst episode out of the season
