We’ve had a marvellous run of Taskmaster series lately, so when a new line-up announcement is on the horizon, it’s easy to wonder whether the winning streak will continue or if we’re due a dud.
Never fear – Alex Horne and co. have delivered once again, although the series 17 Taskmaster line-up might not be quite what you’re expecting. Instead of the now-traditional Taskmaster family line-up, this time they’ve gone for a veteran from outside the world of stand-up comedy, plus four rising stars with slightly less mainstream recognition than normal. As ever with this show though, anybody you’re not familiar with at the start, you’ll almost certainly love by the end of the series.
The Taskmaster series 17 line-up is: Steve Pemberton, Sophie Willan, Nick Mohammed, John Robins and Joanne McNally! And here they are appearing in the very first trailer for the new run:...

The cast of Friends used collective bargaining to level out their salaries. As an ensemble cast, they wanted to be treated as equals as their wages grew from $22K per episode to $1M. Each cast member of Friends earned around $90 million in base salary alone from the show before the addition of any backend bonuses and ongoing royalties from syndication, racking each actor up an impressive net worth. For 10 seasons, the Friends cast was considered the gold standard of sitcom television, but where do they stand financially today? Here is the net worth of the Friends cast ranked from richest to poorest.

I ate so much movie popcorn, I’m gonna explode — quick, where’s the nearest burger joint?
Dinner and a movie — or more commonly, movie and a dinner — is alive and well. In a 2022 study of 1,000 U.S. moviegoers, movie-theater advertising company Screenvision Media and data analytics firm Screen Engine/Asi study found that 79 percent of respondents visited a restaurant or bar immediately before or after seeing a film in theaters.
Like all good data, it gets more granular than that. Those companies also have a pretty good idea of where you’re eating and drinking — and the answer dovetails nicely with those ubiquitous ads that force-feed your attention before the previews. They may be long and loud, but you can’t say they don’t work.
The tracking is easy, relatively speaking: Third-party companies like cloud-based location technology platform Foursquare data-mine your mobile ID, and if you’ve double...

Exclusive: Another one bites the dust at Channel 4. The UK broadcaster has canceled The Big Narstie Show.
Channel 4 informed producers earlier this year that the BAFTA-winning entertainment show will not return for Season 6, though the news has only just percolated amid an ongoing content cull. Channel 4 said it was a creative rather than a cost-cutting decision.
Hosted by rapper Big Narstie and comedian Mo Gilligan, The Big Narstie Show launched in 2018 and established itself as an anarchic vehicle for chat, musical performances, and topical comedy.
It was produced by Expectation, the outfit behind Clarkson’s Farm and David Schwimmer comedy Intelligence, and Dice Productions Entertainment, which is co-owned by Big Narstie.
Channel 4 said: “The decision not to recommission a sixth series of The Big Narstie Show is not part of our response to challenges in the advertising market.

In 2018's "Mission: Impossible—Fallout," the dastardly rogue agent Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) revels in messing with the mind of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) by making him question the principles and values of his entire life spent working for the Imf (Impossible Mission Force). In particular, Lane points out the Imf's code with regards to accepting missions given to their agents; the operative phrase, as adopted from the original 1966 television series, being "your mission, should you choose to accept it," a wording that implies consent and power of choice.
That choice was unfortunately not afforded to residents of Los Angeles back in 2006, when "Mission: Impossible III" was about to be released in theaters. As some lucky (or unlucky) folks discovered, there was a highly suspicious-looking red plastic box attached with wires to a news rack in Santa Clarita, California, a device that enough people reported so as to attract the attention and action of an L.

Exclusive: Dynamo is conjuring up a new magic series for Sky.
The British illusionist, real name Steven Frayne, is in pre-production on his latest series, which has the working title Dynamo: Mind Over Magic.
As is not unusual for magic shows, Sky is keeping its cards close to its chest on the details of the series, but sources say it will include a “twist” on the genre.
The Dynamo series will be produced by Expectation, the production company behind Sky’s David Schwimmer comedy Intelligence.
Dynamo has traditionally collaborated with Phil McIntyre Entertainment on his TV shows, so the move Expectation marks a change of direction. He still owns his own company, Inner Circle Films.
Dynamo’s last major TV show was the 2020 limited series Dynamo: Beyond Belief, which was also broadcast by Sky.
Before this, he made four seasons of Dynamo: Magician Impossible for UKTV, the BBC Studios-owned broadcaster behind channels including Dave.

The Royal Television Society Program Awards 2022 started with a slap on Wednesday evening, when nominee Aj Odudu ran up to the stage and pretended to strike host Tom Allen.
“Oh my God, Aj, oh my God – I’m the one who’s lost their hair, don’t hit me,” Allen, who is bald, quipped in the evidently pre-rehearsed skit. “I never put my wife anywhere near your mouth.”
Continuing the reference to the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock, which took place at the Oscars on Sunday night, Allen continued: “I’ve got to look my best for tomorrow, I’ve got an audition for ‘G.I. Jane 2.'”
Watching from the audience at the Jw Marriott Grosvenor House in Mayfair, where the awards were taking place, were a bevy of well-known faces including “The Batman” star Andy Serkis, “Supergirl’s” David Harewood and “Succession” actor Matthew Macfadyen. Considered the greatest action cartoon series of all time, director Chris McKay ("The Tomorrow “War”) continues developing his live-action adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera animated TV series "Jonny Quest" (1964), likening it to “Raiders of the Lost Ark” with aliens, monsters and high-tech villains:
"...living in the Florida Keys, 'Jonny Quest' is a young boy who lost his mother at an early age. Though unenthusiastic in his schooling, he is intelligent, brave, adventurous, and generally athletic with a proficiency in judo, scuba diving and the handling of firearms. He takes on responsibility willingly, attending to his studies, and treating adults with respect.

Exclusive: Nick Mohammed, best known for his role as the charming Nathan on the hit series Ted Lasso, has joined the cast of Maggie Moore(s), the film being directed by John Slattery and set to star Jon Hamm and Tina Fey. The film takes place in a dusty desert town where nothing ever happens, as a police chief is suddenly faced with the back-to-back murders of two women with the same name.
Mohammed will play a part philosopher, part wise-ass who makes jokes in inappropriate situations but only as a defense mechanism to protect himself from the worst parts of his job as a police officer. He seems to have a casual attitude toward his job, but he wants badly to be a good cop and earn the respect of his friend and mentor Chief Jordan Sanders (Hamm).

‘Manifest’s Matt Long, Marg Helgenberger, Jasmine Mathews & E.J. Bonilla Cast In ‘Getaway’ NBC Pilot
Amid talks about a new season of Manifest, one of the canceled NBC series’ core cast members, Matt Long, has booked a new pilot at the network but fans of the missing plane drama should not be too worried about it. Behind the uplifting humor of Apple TV’s hit comedy series “Ted Lasso” — about a London-based soccer team and their optimistic American coach — is a charming ensemble complementing Jason Sudeikis’ star turn as the title character. British casting director Theo Park is the woman partly responsible for that on-screen alchemy.
Sudeikis, one of series co-creators and an executive producer, was the loudest creative voice when it came to building the ensemble, which meant he had final say in every casting decision. His steadfast vision facilitated Park’s search. “It was all about how Jason perceived the roles. All I needed to do was have a quick chat with him about what he wanted and then it was clear,” she told IndieWire from London.
Even if Sudeikis had veto power, the concept lent itself to plenty of exploration, especially considering neither Sudeikis nor the other producers knew many British actors. Park,...

In its first NewFronts presentation, NBCUniversal laid out its multi-platform ad strategy and revealed new initiatives like an ad unit on Peacock that lets brands reach a broad audience at a certain time regardless of what they are watching.
The company also detailed new dynamic ad insertion and contextual ad offerings during the virtual event, which capped this year’s four-day blitz of NewFronts. NBCU will present during its traditional upfront slot on Monday, May 17.
The One Digital Video offering, which recently got a boost at the company’s One21 event earlier this spring, weaves together linear broadcast and cable networks with digital, social and streaming. Advertisers can reach 200 million potential customers across a wide range of access points.
Since launching in April 2020, Peacock has elicited 42 million sign-ups, one-third of them active monthly viewers, according to Comcast and NBCU execs. The new ad format on Peacock, called Spotlight, emulates the...

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, broadcasters, cablers and even streamers found themselves in a mad dash for content, as their original productions toppled like a pile of dominos.
“It was like a fire sale when we all started shutting down back in March and April,” says Val Boreland, head of program planning for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Everyone was just looking for anything they could get their hands on.”
To fill their gaping programming holes, networks sought out and acquired international series on an unprecedented scale. However, now that the dust is just beginning to settle, and handfuls of U.S. series are tentatively returning to set, where does it leave the global pipeline of shows? Will the glut of international acquisitions continue, and if so, will they remain as big a factor in networks’ plans?

Exclusive: Expectation, the UK production outfit behind Sky’s David Schwimmer comedy Intelligence, has secured its first Netflix original commission — a feature-length documentary on a series of nail bombings in London 20 years ago.
Titled The Nailbomber, the film will tell the story of how far-right extremist David Copeland detonated three improvised bombs in Brixton, Brick Lane and Soho over three weekends in 1999, killing three people and injuring 140 others.
Copeland, who loaded his devices with more than 1,000 four-inch nails, targeted London’s Black, Bangladeshi, and gay communities. He was convicted in 2000 and was given six life sentences in prison.
As well as sensitively exploring the atrocities themselves, The Nailbomber will also show how London communities bonded together to overcome hate. Netflix will premiere the film next year.

It’s the jarring thought many face each year on Emmy nominations day as shows receive their just plaudits in the noms: what happened to that great show I was just watching? The one everyone’s talking about right now. Why isn’t it nominated? It’s easy to forget that Emmy’s eligibility window comes to a close on May 31, ruling out from consideration any shows that premiere in the gap between June 1 and today’s nominations announcement.
Last year, the pre-noms head-scratchers were Emmy favorites like Stranger Things Season 3, Big Little Lies Season 2 and Euphoria, which all appear in this year’s nominations as a consequence of their June/July 2019 bows. And this year’s field is especially compounded by the global pandemic, which has led to the longest first phase for Emmy in recent memory.
