The Return of Daniel Salazar
ninjaboyballer10 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"The Hurt That Will Happen" is a really entertaining episode. Not as much as the premiere, but still really good. I am liking the way they are introducing new types of walkers into the mix, with the radiation walkers being practically untouchable. So it's harder to kill them now with the risk of being exposed to the radiation. The woman Grace who is exterminating these walkers is fleshed just enough so you can understand why she is doing what she is doing. The stuff with Morgan and Alicia in this episode was really down to earth with Morgan's pep talk to Alicia being straight from him, a person who had in a way been where she has been in the past and understands what it's like to not believe in hope. The stuff with Luciana, June, and John was a bit boring at some points, but still managed to entertain us a bit with the house of walkers. But the best scenes were the scenes with Daniel and Strand. Ruben Blades is a god as Daniel Salazar and I'm am so glad he's back. The scenes with him and Strand were great and saved the episode for being a bit boring with the other characters in certain scenes.

In conclusion, this episode is not as good as the premiere, but is still an entertaining episode overall with some entertaining subplots, good dialogue, and the return of a great character.

Slower paced but an amazing episode filled with character development and memorable character moments
Holt34410 June 2019
This episode moves along nicely with our heroes finding a new location and an interesting survivor and a returning character that they teased in the trailer, a great character from S1-3. The crew and cast delivered an episode filled with suspense, character development and great drama. I personally loved the slower pace of the episode as we the viewers got to see more of the nature, the overgrown style of it all which makes it so much easier to get immersed into the world and story that they have set up for us. The walkers was extremely good in this episode and the kills were some of the season's best, the director did an amazing job and I hope she will get another shot at it.

There were lots of great character moments, the new showrunners finally knows how to write for Luciana, these two episodes feels like the old her again the one we love. There were also some great acting in the episode: Alycia, Lennie, Colman and Danay were the ones that shined throughout the episode with their superb performances.

Thrilling but slow moving plot.

Fear the Walking Dead

Episode 5.02 (3.5 out of 5 stars).

The episode delivers another spine chilling journey with the characters in a new setting. Morgan and Alicia meet a new survivor that is committed to containing the undead that are radioactive from an exploded plant. Strand comes across a familiar face that nearly goes nowhere with this episode.

It does deliver another thrilling episode. The characters barely make progress with this episode. The story barely goes anywhere. Which is also one of the downside of this episode. It does get a little haunting with an injured Luciana walking outside the store after hearing strange noises. And comes across a horde of undead. Overall, still an entertaining series that is worth seeing through.

The show has become shockingly bad
j57j10 June 2019
This is the episode that finally made me give up the series.

I've been watching since season 1. Season 3 was especially excellent. Season 4 started taking a nose dive and it's now become unwatchable.

The writing has become absolutely terrible. It seems like it's being written by a high school drama club who think they're being artsy but it just falls flat. Everything is so "on the nose," including the dialogue.

Characters randomly appear whenever it's convenient. Radios go in and out when convenient. Just ridiculous cliches and troupes, one after another, after another.

The acting has gotten consistently worse, though I would say through no fault of their own. It really seems like the actors know how awful the writing is and they're forcing their lines out.

There's no real storyline other than the same Morgan nonsense over and over and over again. Killing bad. Must help everyone. Must make up for past. Find more people to preach the gospel to endlessly. It's the same thing we've been seeing since what, around season 4 of the main series? The beating of this dead horse has gotten beyond old.

The season premiere was bad but this might be the worst episode of the entire series. It's really a shame what they did to this show after how amazing it was a couple of seasons ago.

Part was normal at least I was not bored

Warning: Spoilers
It certainly wasn't a boring episode but it wasn't very nice either. Fear the walking dead is better than before but it has a certain capacity. Radiation zombies are a bit intriguing, at least it will become more dangerous to kill and this is better in my opinion Everyone is happy to return to daniel salazar, but I found it confusing I hope we can get information about how he came here in the next sections As the new character joins (grace) a little visit through the series but I think it won't live long, and it's confusing to me.

FTWD continues with another decent episode
joseph-voll-beliebt9 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Season 5 is very solid so far. The writing has definitely improved and I like the direction of the story. John and June are amazing new additions and that's what season 4 did best: Introducing likeable characters like John, June, Althea, Morgan, Sarah and Wendell.

This episode delivers lots of information and keeps you guessing. This is definitely going somewhere, which is something I never really felt while watching this show. I've enjoyed it throughout (especially season 3) but there was always something off or missing.

I wonder how and when FTWD connects directly with TWD. I really want to see this crossover, so FTWD can be put to rest.

slow but still amazing

Warning: Spoilers
5x2 Rating: 7.8/10

Storyline: Inside Althea's truck, Strand makes a tape where he tells the others that if they're watching it then he didn't make it. He grabs a few supplies and a beer before heading down a road to El Paso.

Sometime later, he arrives at the entrance of a compound with rebar sticking out of the road. An orange cat greets him before a walker impales itself on the rebar. Suddenly, a gun cocks and Victor puts his hands up, asking Daniel to act calm and reasonably. Daniel orders him to turn around slowly. He tells him that his cat, Skidmark, likes him. Daniel then shoots a walker behind Strand before inviting him inside.

Meanwhile, Alicia, Morgan, and John return to the crash site to discover all their weapons and supplies are missing as well as the body of the strange walker. Morgan finds a sign that someone took Althea and their equipment. The three of them split up and search for her, with Morgan cautioning Alicia not to blame herself.

At the truck stop, June patches up Luciana, who is eager to heal so she can learn to play the accordion due to the pain killer drugs. John returns to tell them Morgan and Alicia headed north and they should head south, while Luciana should stay at the station.

Back in Daniel's compound, he guides Strand through a warehouse full of cars and trucks, demanding he not touch anything and saying he inherited this place. Strand asks if he could borrow his plane to find his friends. Daniel asks if it's for Madison and Strand breaks the news about her and Nick. However, Daniel doesn't believe him and claims Strand just wants the plane for himself because he is always self-serving.

In the woods, Alicia is blaming herself for Althea being missing but Morgan is optimistic. They come across a truck that is stocked and had been running recently. They split up and Morgan comes across a couple of walkers clawing at a birdcage. Morgan takes one out but then get his ankles tied up. Grace Mukherjee, a woman with a hazmat suit, holds him at gunpoint and demands he take his clothes off. Suddenly, Alicia jumps her, takes off her mask, and asks where Al is. Grace explains a power plant melted down last year and that Morgan needs to be decontaminated after killing a walker that was affected by it.

Morgan takes a shower by her truck and Grace suggests he take his wedding ring off to scrub under it, which makes him uneasy. Grace tells Alicia she hasn't seen Al but agrees to help if they return to the crash site. Alicia accepts but insists on keeping her gun. John radios to them that his and June's truck broke down. Alicia warns him of the radioactive walkers that he can't kill without risking their own health. Later, June and John follow a sign to a nearby camp to find the kids. They arrive to find cabins full of walkers and signs of a battle.

Back at the compound, Daniel reminds Strand that he once shot him in the face and left him for dead on a dam which he rigged with explosives. Strand desperately explains people can change.

In the woods, Morgan, Alicia, and Grace search for radiation amongst the dead walkers at the crash site when a small herd approaches one of which carries a dosimeter. Alicia insists she will kill them despite it being dangerous. Morgan and Grace suit up as Alicia takes out the walkers one by one, made complicated by the walkers falling in the mud and losing the dosimeter. Alicia struggles with a walker as Grace checks each remaining walkers for radiation. After finding the radioactive one, Grace shoots it dead.

That night, Grace criticizes Alicia's actions. She explains that she was an operations manager at the power plant and turned it into a safe haven for the workers and their families following the outbreak. Due to not being able to properly maintain the plant, the meltdown occurred, killing everyone else which Grace blames herself for. Suddenly, John radios again with news that he and June have found the burned bodies of more radioactive walkers. Alicia, Morgan, and Grace meet up with them in the campsite, where Grace inspects the walkers in the cabins and confirms they were exposed to the radiation due to the walkers they had killed before she puts them down.

At the truck stop, Luciana makes contact with Strand and informs him that she was injured and Althea is missing. Strand informs her that the man with the plane is going to help them. She then hears a noise nearby as the radio feed cuts out. Back in the compound, Daniel believes that the others need help and tells Strand to follow him.

Meanwhile, June and John inspect a car to ride back to the truck stop, when they get a radio call from Luciana who tells them they are getting a plane from Strand and that the long-range antenna was taken out by the wind. June then orders her to go back inside just as walkers start to surround the truck stop. Luciana tries to take aim but her injured shoulder prevents her from shooting them. She hobbles away to the barn and locks herself in.

Later, Alicia laments to Morgan that she hasn't helped or found anyone and Morgan tells her about a time he was also stuck. He promises there's a way out of her hopelessness, she just needs to find it. Alicia asks what the way out leads to. "The way out is opening the door to people, to possibility, to the hurt that will happen. That's what I did. I found the way and then I opened the door and then my life started all over again. Yours will, too." Alicia listens thoughtfully.

Afterward, Morgan tells Grace they'll help her find the rest of her friends but she declines, revealing that she has been exposed to the radiation and has limited time to live and does not want to risk anyone else's lives. Morgan reminds her they'll always be on the other side of the walkie if she needs them and Grace asks them to contact her if the group finds anymore of her people.

At the truck stop, the group arrives and awakens Luciana, who is still drugged and scared that the dead are waiting. Outside, they find the heads hanging from a billboard.

Meanwhile, Strand is escorted off of Daniel's property. He is confident the group will survive just fine and fires a couple of shots into the air, insisting Strand to leave now. "If you come back, the next one will be in your face," he tells him. Strand leaves furiously and smashes the head of some walker with a rock before heading off into the moonlight.

Near Perfect Episode
aidenbreccia10 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Before you judge my headline please give me a chance to explain it.

1). Luciana has a character! She's become comedic relief and I love it.

2). Morgan development. Losing the stick, removing his wedding ring, revealing his dark past to Alicia. Awesome conversations between those two characters.

3). Strand and Daniel dialogue. Strand's character has blatantly changed throughout the last season and you can see it in his dialogue. Plus we get a little blast to the past with these two being on screen again. When Strand told Daniel that Madison was gone it really hit me - a great homage to all the hardcore FTWD fans who have been watching since the beginning.

4). A new storyline that doesn't involve surviving! Grace's mission to properly dispose of the radiation infested walkers before they can hurt anyone else.

5). Awesome ambiguous new threat that likes to hide in the shadows.

I feel genuinely excited for the next episode and believe the show runners have really picked up their game this season, thanks Ian and Andrew!

S5.E2 - Slow Episode [6.5/10]
panagiotis19933 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S5. E2) My Reaction / Review for Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 2 ''The Hurt That Will Happen'': Episode 1 was good and I gave it a rating of 7.5/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Daniel is back and Victor found him, that's really cool. The area is contaminated, that's a new idea, having contaminated walkers. They better leave this place soon though, radiation is no joke. They want to help other people but they don't even have a place to call home, with food, water, fuel, medicine etc so how they think they can help others? Makes no sense. So that's it, Morgan will no longer have his wooden stick? That sucks. Grace is another boring character I do not need. Why do they care about those kids? I get it that they care about Al but these kids are total strangers. Daniel doesn't wanna give the plane to Victor, that sucks. Overall a mediocre episode and kinda boring. My rating is 6.5/10.

Grace Under Fire
starsurfer8311 June 2019
Sorry . . . I just had to go there, but seriously, the most likely to be tragic character of Grace and her mea culpa actions adds an interesting, bittersweet touch to this episode. It's also about time we meet more people involved in the science of The Walkers. I am intrigued about how radioactive-laced walkers can ratchet up the tension in upcoming encounters/skirmishes. It's always nice to see DS and his ability to see through the BS of other characters. Like other viewers, I'm done with established characters doing dumb things to service the plot . . . C'mon! Luciana deserves better writing (i.e. Season 3).

It must be said that this episode is filmed brilliantly with tones reminiscent of a graphic novel: the stark black of the crows against the gray wash of the landscape - truly beautiful work.

The episode introduces a new dynamic to walker encounters. The radiation suits and the haunting clicking of the Geiger counter add an eerie, almost sci-fi element here
fernandoschiavi22 April 2024
While searching for the Al, Morgan encounters a woman named Grace while dispatching two walkers in a trap. She explains that due to a power plant meltdown the year before. Simply getting close to the walkers risks survivors becoming contaminated, causing Morgan to permanently lose his contaminated staff after stabbing a walker with it. Grace blames herself for the deaths of her friends and attempts to make amends by safely disposing of all the radiated walkers while being terminally ill with radiation sickness. Evidence of the effects is found at an abandoned campground where Annie and her brothers stayed at.

At the same time, Victor tracks down Daniel Salazar at a warehouse. Though convinced of the problem, Daniel refuses to lend his plane to Victor who he feels will only make things worse based on past experiences. After letting him make contact with Luciana, Daniel forces Victor to leave threatening to kill him the next time if he comes back.

"Fear the Walking Dead" Season 5, Episode 2, "The Hurt That Will Happen," dives deeper into the dangers and moral complexities of the post-apocalyptic world. In this episode, the group grapples with the disappearance of Althea, who was last seen chasing a story about the mysterious helicopter group. This episode underscores the risks of curiosity and the high stakes involved in their world.

The episode efficiently portrays the sense of urgency and fear surrounding Althea's disappearance. As the group searches for her, they encounter a woman named Grace, a survivor who introduces a new threat - radiation from a nearby nuclear plant meltdown. This not only adds a layer of environmental danger but also significantly raises the stakes, as they now have to navigate a landscape that is literally toxic.

Noteworthy in this episode are the scenes involving Morgan's confrontation with Grace and the harsh reality of dealing with walkers that are radioactive. These interactions are charged with tension and introduce a new dynamic to walker encounters, highlighting the show's ability to reinvent itself and keep the narrative fresh. The radiation suits and the haunting clicking of the Geiger counter add an eerie, almost sci-fi element to the episode.

Critically, "The Hurt That Will Happen" manages to balance character development with the introduction of new plot elements effectively. Grace's character adds depth to the storyline, bringing with her a background of loss and responsibility that mirrors the main group's ongoing struggle with the consequences of their actions. However, the episode does struggle slightly under the weight of its own ambitions, sometimes feeling cluttered with too many themes jostling for space.

Overall, this episode continues the season's exploration of the themes of risk, responsibility, and survival in an evolving world. While it effectively sets up new narratives and builds tension, it also leaves viewers pondering the ethical dilemmas of survival in a world where every decision can mean life or death. The combination of human and environmental threats makes for a gripping and suspenseful episode that pushes the boundaries of traditional zombie genre storytelling.

Great Characters - bad plots and sensical storylines
mesut002411 June 2019
How hard is it to find decent writers nowadays.. pretty rare thing in 2019. The group goals is to find another plane because the first one they crashed... hey lets try that again... to find a random bunch of kids... and stubbornly help people if it means being completely reckless and idiotic in reason. The characters appear to be becoming dumber by the episode... its staring to feel like TWD... Just end this show.. its no longer its original self.. instead they seem to have highjacked it for no reason. why? Im watching soley for Alycia now... please kill her off so I can move on from this show. RIP FWD

Fear the Walking Soap Opera! Chronicles of Morgy, the Savior! If it wasn't for bad luck, he would have no luck at all.
Bababooe11 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hey guys. Follow me. I've got a great idea. Let's save people. But I don't know what I'm doing, and I get people killed. So, let's go, follow me.

Yeah, I don't think so. First off this show has degenerated to boredom. I don't mind stupid events transpiring in front of me, or inconsistent characters, like experienced survivors doing inexperienced things and getting into trouble again. At least I can laugh at it, as the joke that it is. But once something is not even funny but pathetic, then we have a real problem with this show. Dumb and Boredom.

1 star for Ruben Blades' acting. His character was whatever, but he had conviction in his performance. The rest of the cast know they are on a sinking ship, all calling their agents for maybe an unrelated movie deal to get far away from this mess.

Morgy should be accidentally on purpose killed by all the other characters. Sort of like, he means well, but he's gotten people into trouble and killed. He got Jimbo killed. He even tried to save Filthy Woopy Zombie Wrangler. Morgy's got to go. The main reason is he's boring. Talking about the same things over and over again, that he needs to save people, preaching and preaching. This guy is unreal.

Alicia is a walking moron following Morgy like an obedient dog, confused, killer, with the brain size of a walnut. John and June, we got to see them taking a lovely walk together and speaking in loving terms of "it was easier to believe you wouldn't find me". What nonsense. Is there a zombie apocalypse currently in progress or is this a daytime soap opera? Lucy after impalement and make shift surgery, is walking around. Vlad III, The Impaler, would be proud. She's not only sitting, she's up and walking around. She should be laying down. And what's with people leaving her alone? Just give it up.

Vic Strand. Is he supposed to be a cartoon character? His accent and dialogue. Nobody speaks like this. He goes to Ruben for a plane that he can't fly.

New Chick, what the hell is her story. She's dying and still hanging around. For what? Might as well take a drive to the beach and watch your last sunset. Ooh, the intrigue. We have hanging zombie heads on trees. Who's the new bad guy? We were spared Backstab Charlie, and the Trucker Twins (Wheelchair and His Sister).

We are in the realm of cardboard characters that act just as dumb. These actors need the pay so they are guilty conspirators to this nonsense. Who the hell gets onto a plane knowing that the person flying doesn't know how to fly? To save people they don't know. Maybe they should start with trying to save themselves. If you're too stupid to know any better, better to not.

This show is officially stupid and boring. There is nothing left. I can't even laugh at it. It's pathetic.

we've been hurt before
Rob-O-Cop10 June 2019
Still on the fence but definitely on the suspicious side. Still enjoy watching John Dorie, Strand and Althea, maybe Morgan, but I'm pessimistic about investing energy into this cos you know what happened last time. We got elderly whoppie goldberg ridiculously reeking havoc. Not sure I care about the nuclear fall out story line. they've got bigger problems. move away. The head hunter angle could be interesting. and Maxheadroom could be interesting too. The optimal word being 'could'. The last 2 episodes have been shot and edited better than last season so that's good. The lines aren't terrible. so that's good, locations are good, ........ Will check in next week.
