The Patriot (2000)
Patriot Rocks
Mark my words, our children will not learn of war from books but of their own eyes' That's what Mel Gibson's character Benjamin Martin says early on in THE PATRIOT. Just in Time for The Fourth of July Holiday Roland Emmerich(independence day) Brings us A flick that could make the Revolutionary war as intresting as Saving Private Ryan did for WORLD WAR 2, and PLATOON from Vietnam. Mel Gibson is back as the reluctant hero who has seen battle and the brutality of it up close. It is the Year 1776 he is a Widower raising 7 Kids under the winds of war in South Carolina. He is a Veteren of the French and Indian wars, and would just as soon forget, but The Brits have other plans. General Cornwalis is moving northward and he has eyes on the North eventually winning back the territories for good old mother England. To fight the wave is a combination of the American Advance Force, and freedom fighters along with the help of the French. Martin is forced to join the fight after a confrontation with the british on his own land. In the spirit of Braveheart, Gibson brings the birth of our nation into the Millennium. The Patriot has an outstanding cast. If you want to get an idea of how our country won its independence, if you want to see Mel Gibson kick some British ass, if you want to see a good war movie, The Patriot is for you, Its not exactly the way it happened to the letter, but then what Hollywood movie is, just forget the inaccuracies and enjoy!!!!
The Perfect Storm (2000)
Mother Nature is Furious!!!!
In October of 1991 a storm stronger than any in recorded history hit the coast off of Gloucester, Massachusetts. This "Perfect Storm" - so called because it was three storms combined into one - created an almost apocalyptic situation in the Atlantic Ocean, where boats encountered waves of 100 feet (30 meters) - the equivalent of a ten-story building. These storms are some of the strongest and most terrifying manifestations of nature's strength. This is the True story of the men on one of those illfated boats, The Andrea Gail. Directed by Wolfgang Peterson(Das Boot) , This movie brings to life the Terror of what it was like inside a Killer Storm. Based on the book by Sebastian Junger the Movie stars George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane lane, and a host of character actors too many to name. If you have ever been leery of going out on the open sea, this movie will not help. It brings to mind a similar disaster known as the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald but that's another story. The Terror is real, the fear is real, The Sea is brutal and this movie brings it right to you. Fate sometimes plays tricks on us, and for the men of the Andrea Gail, it was a wopper, The movie also touches on other rescues in the same storm, all very compelling and heroric. See the Perfect storm, and the next time Mother Nature rears its head on land or sea, you will remember the men who lost their lives at her mercy.
Homicide: The Movie (2000)
Who says you cant go back
HLOTS was an outstanding series, its what NYPD Blue will never be, on HLOTS the plots are real, the dialog is real, the Relationships are real. With HLOTS back as a movie, Tying up all the loose ends, it was good to have all the gang back together, even a few that passed away show up (wont say how) The storyline was fast paced, emotional and full of the spirit the series had week in and week out. Homicide , Life on the Streets, Network drama at Its BEST!!!! 5 STARS!!!! Thumbs UP and all That. Thanks NBC for giving us the Finally we didn't get!
