Ridiculousness Taken to New Heights of Hilarity
10 December 1999
I have rarely seen a movie as original as "Bob and Tammy's Party to Blow." The filmmakers have managed to take ridiculous humor to sublime new heights where jokes rule over plot and are created from the lack of plot. It is impossible to tell where the next crazed joke will come from or what bit of nonsense will inspire the film in new directions. Kudos to the filmmakers and I hope to see more of Bob and Tammy.

So bad, I left giddy with disbelief
24 October 1999
Okay, this movie is horrible. It starts off with one thing going for it. It knows it's horrible. It plays with that fact. It doesn't bother trying to be good, it just wants you to have a good time. Then the entire last half of the movie takes itself too seriously. And the movie just plain awful. I nearly enjoyed myself until the movie killed itself. So sad. It was so young.

The Mod Squad (1999)

No gun. No badge. No screenplay.
28 March 1999
This movie is just short of being horrible. Two things save it: Giovani Ribisi and its inherent "mod"ness. The story is confusing. The characters are flat. The editing is distracting. the music is irritating. But Giovani Ribisi turns in a great performance, making a horrible role mildly entertaining. And these kids are cool. They wear cool clothes and they get action and they kick a little butt now and again. So rent it with some buddies and go out clubbing, pretending you're as cool as Pete, Julie and Linc.

Jacob's Ladder (I) (1990)
More than a movie, a hypnotic dream
2 March 1999
This film breaks many rules, purposefully confusing the viewer about the limits of reality and the truths in the film. It is difficult to describe, but far more difficult to forget. Haunting and frightening, you'll be thinking about it for weeks afterwards, sorting out the realities.

Excellent. Utterly compelling.

This is a taut political thriller that rivals Dune for impact, if not for complexity. The issues explored here are both timely and universal. Somehow, this mixes the Star Trek mythos with commentary on the Cold War, race relations and military down-sizing. It is indescribable how cool this movie is.
