very entertaining
13 February 2006
The gist of this movie kind of remind me of shadow grave and both are very enjoyable. The storyline was intriguing, the character development was sensational, the plot was suspenseful and the intelligent dialogue full of witty remarks really makes this film, in my opinion, to be one of the best oldies on suspense that I've watched. This movie won't bore you and takes off from the very beginning and is constantly revolving. Although one can guess what the ending is going to be from the beginning, this movie captures how greed can kill perfectly. Terrific and Kathrine Miller is a nice looking gal...why she never was mentioned among the bombshells of that era? she should be.

Wicker Park (2004)

pretty good film
5 December 2005
I really enjoyed this film. At first I was pretty confused as to what was happening, but it was interesting enough to keep me guessing until mid-way through the movie when everything starts to make more sense. Similar to many suspense movies nowadays, this movie goes back and forth in time to get clarify things, but this film does it at a different pace and I thought it was cleverly done. I thought the girl who played the obsessive part was excellent while others were pretty good. It is one of those non-violent, but yet thrilling film that makes this one quite unusual and entertaining. This was a good looking cast as well.

simply overrated - borrowed formula
30 November 2005
I realize that there are a lot of people who like this film, but I for one hated this one. I like Clint and Morgan movies. This one was just too much copy and paste from their roles in other movies. Morgan sounds like he is back at shawshank redemption. Clint plays his traditional tough guy role and Hillary comes across as the tom-boy. There was nothing in this movie that one hasn't seen in other movies from these actors and actress before. The boxing scenes weren't even exciting and the whole story line is not even original. There are scenes that are suppose to be real sad, but all the characters are hard-boiled people who try not to show emotions...and it just didn't come across as a movie that elicits any sympathy. Nothing. Bottomline, full of clichés, nothing new and just Clint's name bringing the Oscar home to an otherwise substance-less movie.

Spider-Man (2002)

this was one bad movie
1 June 2002
I am a spider-man fan and was so disappointed by this movie. First my expectations weren't that high since the trailers didn't look so good but the movie was much worse. So much focus on a love story, not much action and when there was the action with graphics appear very amateurish...I was completely bored with this movie. William Dafoe was the only good thing about the movie because he played a very good villan. Another thing, is that origins of spider-man in the movie was different from the comic book especially how spider-man generates his web (no spoilers yet). Just remember the fact that a spiders in nature spins web with its mouth. I strongly recommend not seeing this movie until you can rent it and I for one will not watch any of sequels since this movie was typical of hollywood hype to generate money and diasppoint viewers.

Federal Hill (1994)
good pt caspian

Overall the movie was okay. I never thought about Nicky and Ralphy's relationship and you are right, now I think about it, Ralph seem very jealous of Nicky's relationship with a woman. A lot foul language and tough acts throughout the film...typical of hoodlum type of movies.

I like to get the "run you away" theme song of the movie...can't seem to find it.

good, but not great
29 January 2002
Overall I did enjoy this movie. Crowe was excellent portraying a troubled mathematician. However, the story of John Nash itself simply isn't all that interesting and one gets the impression that Hollywood is trying too hard to make a story out of nothing. I mean Nash's mental conditions was heavily emphasized throughout the film that it came across more on a movie about mental disorders. I wished the film devoted more time emphasizing Nash's contributions to mathematics and why his contributions were important. At the very end you do hear a bit about that but that was much too late after 2 hrs worth of riding through Nash's mental problems. This movie had chances to become really good, but instead of going deeper into explaining in layman's terms the contributions of Nash, so we can appreciate his "beautiful mind", we get carried away into Nash's nightmares and drowned for 2 hrs in Nash's mental state that could've been explained in 15 minutes. The movie echoed the sixth sense the way Nash's sees "people" around him all the time and it just got ridiculous in that aspect.

Forrest Gump (1994)
how in the world did this film win an Oscar?
29 March 2001
This wasn't a bad movie...it is an OK movie..but an OSCAR award winning movie?? I agree with other posters that Shawshank Redemption and Morgan Freeman should've received the Oscars in 95. I got nothing out of Gump, in fact, I don't even remember what the movie is about except that Hanks undeservingly won an award for his portrayal of a villiage idiot. Meanwhile, I own a copy of shawshank and I can always watch it when the time is right. Shawshank is a great movie to watch. It is no surprise today that Gump is ranked in the bottom of IMDB top list at #172 while Redemption is #2...what a travesty of justice bought on by the Academy that a movie like Gump wins an oscar over Shawshank.

gee..old chinese martial arts film remakes
28 January 2001
People flying in the air, gliding on roof tops, running on water? Gee, I think I've seen this stuff before in some old chinese martial arts film, although the special effects in the movie makes it look more realistic - but the bottom line is ... it looks so silly it is laughable. If this movie's goal is to engage the viewers with the fight scenes from female martial artists, then I don't think it was that great - basically it is like watching acrobats in Lincoln Center Asian Cultural shows - NO BIG DEAL ANYMORE. Chow Yun Fat, no matter how good he is in other films, is just misplaced in this film - he is a naturally gifted martial artists that this film calls for...a guy like Jackie Chan, Jet Li or the late Bruce Lee would have made this movie 10 times better. The story line is also just too simple for a 2 hr movie - recover a sacred sword from a spoiled brat who happened to be a good fighter from the secrets she stolen. I don't know how well this film is doing in Asia, probably pretty good simply from star attractions - but for those who thinks this movie is so great, they should realize that the majority of fight scenes are nothing special compared to other great chinese martial arts movies and I much prefer Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee fighting than Chow Yun-Fat.

Gossip (I) (2000)

good surprise ending and a very good film!
8 January 2001
I am surprised that Gossip so far has received rather low ratings. If you like Shallow Grave - then you will probably like this movie. It is very similar in concept with 2 guys and a gal living together with somewhat platonic relationships. But the movie is actually more about something else that is very intense and suspenseful. I thought this movie was very captivating... all the way to the end. The acting was ok and the character Derrick Web is very well played by X-men star mardsen. If you like to guess at endings, this movie will give you a good ride.

The Warriors (1979)

good gang movie
27 August 2000
Decent portrayal of gang fights and interesting one liners throughout the film makes it quite enjoyable. I wholeheartedly disagree with the previous poster who suggested that the "Warriors" should and could have taken a cab home when the train caught on fire and not go through hostile gang territories on foot - which would have ended the story??!!. Hmmm, let's see, 10+ tatooed menacing looking men dressed in gangster colors and armed with weapons walking down a run down stretch of neighborhoods in the depths of the night hoping to stop a cab driver who must have a death wish to even drive in that area so late, let alone pick up these guys, for a ride home to desolated Coney Island??!!! in NYC???? Now that would be funny and VERY VERY unbelieveable...maybe workable in a spoof to the movie...but as a realistic solution to the Warriors predicaments??? Give me a break.

one of worst movies of the year
19 June 2000
Bad acting, world wide wrestling fight scenes, unconvincing love story, no story line - this movie was just plain bad...you will be sorry if you pay $9 to see this crap. It has been a while since I have felt so bad leaving a theatre - now I understand why Anthony Hopkins refused to have his name in the credits - who would want to be associated with this disaster from Woo/Cruise.
