V for Vendetta (2005)
V for Very Bad
X-Men + 1942 + 911 + Hollywood, in a blender. A puke-fest of misplaced social commentary and hypocritical mixed messages. Pretentious political propaganda hidden behind a mask of all-American dissent. Utterly far-fetched, and disgustingly over dramatized.
I can perhaps see what the writer/director may have been trying to accomplish, but clearly they were visionaries without any sense of tact. England falling under Natzi-Germany-like rule, running concentration-like camps, suddenly transformed into a society without a trace of humanity, is simply not believable except in the context of satire and film noir. But this film tried to be a epic drama. The story's hero, the superhuman masked man whose dialauge was a eloquent riddle of literary exerps, was indeed an entertaining character. We love this hero, despite the fact that he is a terrorist. So is terrorism justified then if your cause is freedom?
All in all, its apparently what the average American audience wants.
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
Refreshing look at Americanism
Those of you shooting off your guns in the far right balcony need to compose yourself and actually watch this brilliant work with your head. Whether or not one agrees with the messages portrayed in this documentary has nothing to do the facts it contains, it has to do with what kind of person you are. Although the arguments may be somewhat biased, that doesn't dismiss the validity of Moore's thought-provoking conclusions. If you were outraged by this documentary, then congratulations, you are part of Moore's philosophy that you are in FEAR. How can you blanket your life with perfect American ideals when it's only a facade, and not reality? Why fear the truth?
A truly refreshing work well-deserving of its acclaim. (10/10)
Spider-Man (2002)
Manufactured entertainment for the thinking-challenged
Spider-Man is utter drivel, manufactured entertainment for the unintelligent or lazy thinkers of this country. The only saving aspect of this film is the mediocre action scenes, but hardly anything worth hype. When will Hollywood learn that you can't force emotional scenes with a blaring sentimental soundtrack and a dialauge of cliches. Its nothing but comedy! This would be a great peice for a film class to study aspects of bad film! Rating: 2/10
Batoru rowaiaru (2000)
An unpleasantly candid and revolting peak into human morality
This film touches on everything that nobody would ever want to think about, and I mean this as a bad thing. I must admit that the film is very thought provoking, well done, and original. However, to me the film felt like a mockery of innate human morality. I almost felt sick part way through the film. If this arouses your curiosity, by all means rent this movie now. Rating: 5/10
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Bland and predictable. Just a mediocre normal kids movie.
Harry Potter is a decently done adaption of the Harry Potter books, and it makes a great movie for the kids. But the movie itself is simply not anything more than this. Chris Columbus, who also did Home Alone is a very plain director. His direction in Harry Potter is not surprising different, just very...underwhelmingly normal. I personally need something more in a movie before it really impresses me, and before it deserves such tremedous glorification as Harry Potter seems to be recieving. If this movie wins an Oscar I will really go insane.
If you have kids who like Harry Potter, I recommend this movie. Otherwise, don't waste your money.
