The Girl Who Believes in Miracles (2021)
Had potential but bad writing.
SPOILERS SPOILERS
The first part of the movie where the girl healed was interesting but the movie broke down at the end. So she has an inoperable brain tumor and wants to go to the lake where apparently there is a portal to heaven waiting for her. Grandpa helps get her out of the hospital and she goes through the portal safely sort of like ET.
But 5 minutes later she comes back! What was the point? Why couldn't the heaven portal open at the hospital? Would she have gone to hell if she died there? Ending makes no sense. The final message comes off as preachy - girl says God talked to her and he wants all to be nice and love each other. Ok fine - but the creator of the universe can't tell us this himself? Frustrating because I liked the idea of the girl healing people but it got lost in a muddled message. The problem I think was that the movie spelled everything out for you - yep it's miracles and she talks to God. Maybe make things more ambiguous and give the viewer room to think. I know it's just a low budget flick where you turn your brain off. Sigh. 5 out of 10 and that's being too kind.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Not funny.
I'm not really a fan of the 1st one either but it was passable. It had it's moments and although it was a comedy there were times the Sanderson sisters were portrayed as genuinely threatening. This seemed aimed at teenage girls. The three girls were so annoying. No plot and cringe worthy extended musical numbers. No drama nothing scary or threatening just messing around aimlessly for 2hrs until the movie mercifully ended. 30 years and we get this turd. Disney and hollywood in general is clearly bankrupt of ideas. I feel for this generation. They only get soulless remakes of classics from previous times.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
Another bad remake. Nothing to see here. Move along now folks.
It's a stinker as I expected. Maybe someday hollywood will have an original idea but not now. Every remake nowadays is just a pale copy of the original. Do yourself a favor and watch the original which will always be a classic.
Donkey Hodie (2021)
Horrible!
There are good shows on pbs like wild kratts, cyberchase, martha speaks and the new alma's way but this show is a stinker. Puppets can be ok if done right like sesame street but this is cringeworthy. I know it's for preschoolers but come on try a bit. 0 out of 10 stars but zero isn't allowed so I give it 1.
Alma's Way (2021)
Good show.
Nothing really to add. Much better then that awful donkey hodie.
Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer (2011)
Light and fluffy.
After a decade I finally got around to watching this movie. There's nothing terrible about it it's just that nothing happens. There's no drama or conflict just kids messing around. The ingredients for a good movie seem to be there but nothing quite comes together. Five out of 10 - a halfway rating for a half effort movie.
Pokémon Journeys (2019)
Ok I guess.
On it's own it's ok. So we're starting from scratch again - Ash teams up with Pikachu and wants to be a pokemon master. The last season is ignored. The series is ok it's the same story so it's really a reboot. Pokemon sun and moon was much better.
Ready Jet Go! (2016)
Quality show!
Not much more to say. This show is great for teaching kids science.
Us (2019)
Dumb
The evil twin angle is ok even though it's been done before. As other people have said the evil twins weren't scary. So they stab people with scissors cause no one has ever heard of guns and stand around holding hands. It wasn't terrible but I want my ten dollars back.
Mac and Me (1988)
Yeah it's awful but I don't care!
Yes this movie is cheesy. We have aliens who get sucked up into vacuum cleaners and drink coke. We also have alot of advertising from McDonald's. So why do I like this? For starters it has a good soundtrack the songs were what really made the movie and while the acting isn't the best it's nothing too terrible. I liked it a lot as a kid so I have a bit of a nostalgia spot for it suppose. Before I end this I wanted to have a word on the dance party at McDonald's. It's not random as some people think it was because a girl was having her birthday party there. It was also my favorite part of the movie. Ten stars out of ten though it in reality it probably deserves 5.
Mother! (2017)
Awful!
How in the world this movie has a high rating here - right now at least, is beyond me. The first half of the movie wasn't terrible but at least there was some plot. The movie however completely broke down in the second half. Apparently it was all supposed to be a metaphor but it was just stupid. Zero out of 10 stars but IMDb forced me to give it 1.
DuckTales (2017)
Not bad
Just watched this today. Considering other remakes this wasn't bad at all - at least from the first episode. I was going to ding this because I am against remakes in principle but they did a good job. I actually liked the plot of this episode better then the first episode of the original My rating - 10 stars out of 10.
Popples (1986)
Just because you like one doesn't mean you like them all.
I had never heard of popples or this show when I was a kid. Thinking real hard about it I might have had one of the toys though, not knowing what it was called, but I'm not quite sure. Anyhow after recently watching a few eps I was reminded vaguely of the "care bears" cartoon. But while I really liked the DIC care bears I did not like this at all. Considering that they had the same style of animation, company - American greetings and the same aim - be cute and sell toys. Yet in the absence of a villain or any lessons to be learned for that matter it was nothing but one long bore. The live action prequel was halfway decent but even it was way too cheesy too me.
My Little Pony: The Movie (1986)
Great movie!
I only got a chance to see this movie recently. Even though it is a kids movie I thought it was very well done. When one thinks of "my little pony" one naturally thinks of girls. While this certainly was made for girls the only thing girly about it is that the characters are girls. Other then that it is very much an adventure movie. I like how the unicorns can teleport and my favorite scene was the shadow forest where the trees throw daggers at you. Anyhow this was a great movie. Btw a sequel to this was made called "The End of Flutter Valley". I didn't like that sequel very much because I didn't think it was as good. Ten stars for a wonderful movie.
Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-Lot (2004)
I hated this.
I absolutely loved the care bears from the 80's but can't stand these new ones. I hate everything about them. Why can't people leave well enough alone? Hollywood has reached rock bottom so they're remaking everything now but only worse. I'm tires of seeing the classics get ruined. The only comeback that should have been made is the old ones released on DVD. A few people that things are going to change but there's no reason to think so. The Big Wish movie was just as bad. And I'm sure that the new movie coming to the theater will be just as bad. Sorry I've been a bit long winded but I had to draw things out to meet the 10 line minimum for a review.
Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (1986)
My favorite.
This is my favorite of the three care bears movies. Once again I liked all the songs. The big problem however as most people have pointed out was that this story contradicts the original. For those that saw the first movie recall the bears met their "cousins" who they apparently never knew about. It wasn't of course until the end that the cousins received their tummy symbols after proving how much they cared. In this story however the cousins grow up with the care bears and have tummy symbols all along. That being said this isn't a bad movie as long you keep it separate from the first. I thought the Darkheart character much more evil then the Nicholas of the first. But at the same time I felt it added a sort of balance to the sweetness of the care bears. I also liked the we care part at the end, although I know other people had mixed feelings about that scene. And of course I LOVED the songs. My favorites being Growing Up and Forever Young. The care bears movies have always had such good songs. Ten stars for a very good movie.
The Care Bears Movie (1985)
Good Movie.
This has always been one of my favorite movies to watch. Looking at it objectively I suppose I could pick apart this movie until there was nothing left. But I'm not going to do that nor do I want to do. Yes it was a little cheesy at times but I liked all the songs and it of course had a good message. One thing I have noticed is that some people have to point out that this movie was made for commercial reasons. So what? Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter have been commercialized and no one seems to think it takes away from them. Commercializing a movie and making a profit is just part of the industry. This was a cute funny movie with a positive message, I liked it and so I give it 10 stars.
The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland (1987)
Not too bad.
I was actually upset with this movie at first because I thought it was overkill. While I still think it is somewhat the movie isn't that bad. The over all story is mediocre but it wasn't done badly. Then there's the songs! I've seen all 3 care bear movies and liked all the songs in them. While I think the soundtrack to the second movie is the best - what could beat Growing Up and Forever Young?, the songs were good in this one as well. My favorites were Rise and Shine and Has Anybody Seen This Girl. The rap at the end was kind of lame but funny in a weird way. I know I'm probably being really generous, maybe because I'm biased towards care bears but I'll give this one 10 stars.
