Underrated

I think this is a very underrated movie by QT. Enjoyed it very much! QT dialogue and storytelling is exquisite.

I'm not someone who like to stay a movie is slow or sluggish because it's a chance to enjoy any movie with such director and actors. However, many stretched out scenes that were unnecessarily slow and long. Especially in the middle. But the story itself is amazing. I'm a huge fan of QT's writing, the dialogue and the conversations are truly a work of art. The humorous yet serious dialogue.

I feel like QT and Samuel L Jackson are PERFECT!! They just work amazingly together no wonder why he's on so many QT movies. It's like he's doing exactly what QT wants, which reflects on me as a viewer samuel is always my favorite actor in his movies. Pam also was a great actor in this movie, in the beginning her character looked naive but as the movie progressed her characters personality progressed leading to the ending.

Realistic mature clear dialogue and story, that's what I liked about it.

ok

As a huge fan of both Scorsese and Leonardo, I will always enjoy their work whatsoever. I didn't like how the movie flows.

Frankly, as someone who knows nothing about Hughes, I wanted some insight in the beginning into to his personality/education/family life, just so I can have some engagement and attachment to the character and live his life that i'm watching. Unfortunately that didn't happen.. It went straight into a millionaire narcissist genius psychopath. Without any development

What I watched was irregular flow of plot into his life that makes it very random.. I barely understood his personality until the end.. it started with him making movies throwing millions around suddenly a director then a pilot then engineer then playboy then narcissistic then psychopath then mentally troubled peeing in bottles then back to normal!!!!!! Common! I just wanted some decent background into his upbringing then how he honed his skills in aviation and how this passion in aviation developed!.. what made him a psychopath?

All because of his mother I know, but can we get more insight? Why? How?

You would expect that after watching a movie on someone life you would be fully informed and knowledgeable on their background life traits and all right? Nope didn't happen with this movie.

terrible second part
25 March 2024
Honestly, Very overrated. Not bad, but overrated. Nothing special or outstanding. Except for the first part.

The first part I really enjoyed. The geeky "boys" who had to endure the hard training and Viscous personality of their drill sergeant. Some funny scenes and some showcasing the atrocities they had to endure and the effect it had on their mind and psyche. Which led to the shooting and suicide at the end of the first part.

Loved every bit of it, the acting the build up and where the story is going. Honestly, it was heading to become an AMAZING movie!

But.....

Unfortunately, the second part is where it went south. Very random scenes and not engaging at all. Subpar and cliche war scenes without any point. Just random shooting at buildings. And barely any good acting that show how war is, they barely had any expressions and feelings. Nothing much with the plot (the second half) nor the dialogue. Could have showcased how their minds are affected. Also, why show the atrocious training in boot camp if they don't lose their minds at war or at least show how?

Yes, Joker the decent human being who has the peace sign and a good heart was trained brutally to be "born to kill".. but what's so weird or mind blowing? The second part was very vague.

(note: the highly trained born to kill guy joker drops the weapon like a coward when he saw a girl shooting when had no ammo)

Also, the whole movie was background of shooting. Not any memorable score that makes you feel anything regarding the movie.

Very average and over hyped.

Amazing acting by Waltz
24 March 2024
Loved the movie. Wouldn't have loved it if the ending wasn't like that. Amazing climax ending where i as waiting for exactly that in the ending.

I want to say, I'm very impressed by Christoph Waltz. Absolutely my favorite actor in the movie. Stood out to me, and I think without him I wouldn't have liked the movie or enjoyed it. Frankly his personality was intriguing, whenever he questioned someone he made me and everyone nervous. Everything he did was perfect. Charismatic Devil.

Honestly didn't think the bastards were utilized properly. Half of them weren't showcased to convey the powers they have. Like Stiglitz, Wilhelm, even Novak didn't do anything. Barely any actions (only the ending), and the basement where the some died. Not really tough as portrayed. The only shot Brad pitts took was at the end.

Unquestionable directing and dialogue by QT. Almost like he builds the whole movie around a catastrophic bloody mad ending. Which I'm not against.

Enjoyable!

Great Acting
19 March 2024
The movie is all about Daniel Day Lewis. Phenomenal acting by him, truly deserved the Oscar. I felt like it was really slow and even though it was long some parts were not thoroughly explained. Even from the beginning, like who is he? What's his background? Even the buildup to his character was slow... Yet ambiguous cause suddenly the fast forward of time makes the character a little less unrecognizable than the previous time. First my impression was that he is a decent person, slowly with every scene he turned out to be less than that. The movie slowly focused on the relationship between DDL and Paul dano and HW. Which made it clear the movie was more like a character psychological analysis rather than what happened in the oil industry.

Also, Paul Dano!!! Every movie I watch with dano in it I am amazed by his performance. His expression calmness everything.

The score was interesting, made many scenes intense and engaging even though sometimes it was used out of space. But good.

Great watch!

mixed feelings
15 March 2024
Honestly, i have mixed feelings about this movie. I like it and I don't at the same time. I think I have to rewatch it again.

I like it because Kubrick in his futuristic world(yet not too futuristic world, only weird language and colored hairs and costumes), made me delve deep into it and feel inside it. Got weirded out as if I was living in it. It stuck in my mind. I like the main story overall. But disliked the unnecessary sex scenes.

I disliked many things.

It's very weird, and unrealistic. I'm not sure is it dark humor or is it a serious topic? It started with barely any understandable and realistic build up. Not even the dialogue. Nonsensical conversations and scenes. Didn't know where it was going or the meaning of it. Only Kubrick trying to mess with my mind and make me confused and weirded out. The characters were very odd with their style of shouting while talking and their weird facial expressions.

Would have appreciated a movie with better dialogue rather than unnecessary violence and sex mixed with dark humor, and very unrealistic conversations. But generally it's good movie and I think I will rewatch it soon to appreciate it more.

Villeneuve 10/10
13 March 2024
Extremely enjoyable movie. Due to directing of Denis Villeneuve.

Honestly, after watching this movie I loved Villeneuve more! I was fascinated with every single shot and angle in the movie. That's exactly what I like, this style of directing! Also, the sound effects really gave this movie a sense of the future which i really like. But the directing is the things that got me engaged and hooked, I was noticing how great every single scene and shot!

I don't like the dialogue in the movie, felt it was senseless, emotionless, and dull. I know they are robots but it made the movie very slow. Even the humans were senseless. Even though I like Ryan gosling a lot, there isn't much with this movie. I think anyone could have acted an emotionless robot. The reason I like this movie wasn't the acting nor the dialogue, it's the directing from Villeneuve. Also the vibe/setting of the movie.

Great watch!

Must watch
12 March 2024
Amazing movie, certainly opened my eyes to a terrible world of crime. It's enjoyable since you'd never see something like that in your reality. Even the idea that it's a true story is incredible. Killing with no emotion and remorse as if humans are worthless in their world. At the same time, there is someone good with a passion that they are following (narrator), who ends up doing all the things he wanted from the beginning of the movie (his goals/ambitons).

Some things I didn't like about the movie. First, most of the movie is build up. More than an hour into the movie there is still explaining and illustration of events and characters. At the same time I like it cause you knew every character and nothing about this movie was hard to understand. Especially their background. But my point is the buildup took too long.

Also, I don't like the editing of the movie. A lot of cuts, fast transitions, weird effects and angles. There were rarely any still frames. Very fast rapid transitions with weird angles. Not pleasant for the eyes very daunting.

Enjoyed this movie A LOT!! Must watch.

mediocre

I'm a huge fan of hitchkock. Though it was a decent movie and really enjoyed Ray Millards acting. This movie is Ok, not very great.

There is nothing special about this movie. Cold slow, and average story. No spin off or twist nor there was a build up (cause you knew the outcome). I didnt "Feel" this movie, I had zero emotion. Tony is good then bad then margot is bad then good, also the plot has no suspense or thriller in it. Starting From the part where he attempted to murder her the story got terrible.

Even the attempted murder scene was terrible, like come one he could have done better.

Just average plot. Also, i felt some nativity in the characters. Like, they could have used their brains a little bit better. Terrible the build up. As a viewer, I have to connection to any character, nor the relationship between the characters were illustrated thoroughly to make the viewer engaged.

Nothing interesting about this movie, it's OK.

disappointing
7 March 2024
Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors. But I'm extremely disappointed, not that the movie is very bad. Just because vol. 1 was AMAZING!!

I absolutely didn't enjoy this part. Uma gave the viewer an impression that she is overpowered and extremely strong, which she is. But in this part she wasn't the same, looked vulnerable. Very slow scenes. Many overly extended and unnecessary dialogue. As if this part is the buildup to the story!

I think Uma Thurman had a great performance. But Overall I felt like this movie had Sub-par fighting scenes. There wasn't any bloody fight scenes (typical tarantino) or exaggeratedly dark funny fighting, even the story felt tacky.

Didn't enjoy watching it at all like Vol1.

Love this movie!!
4 March 2024
What a genius Tarantino is. Every single aspect of this movie is like... how can i say... Mozart or Beethoven musical piece.. Or even an artist drawing, perfect and brilliant masterpiece. While I'm watching the movie, i'm thinking, this is truly like i'm watching an artist doing his art. Every single shot, scene, dialogue, set, is thought of thoroughly and immaculately. Even the choice of music and the animation were great!!

The exaggerated fight scenes with the blood baths were like dark humor in a sense. Blood spraying and nonsensical yet brilliant fight scene. This movie is Vulgar and violent yet extremely entertaining! Even though i don't like action movie, I enjoyed the hell out of this. Very entertaining.

Hitchkock!
4 March 2024
Enjoyed every minute of this movie! It's fascinating that even after 60+ years it's relevant! I'd watch this movie a million times over many movies from our current days. You can see from his work why Hitchcock is such a legend. Directed perfectly with the amazing performance by James Stewart.

Watching the movie from Jeffries point of view/perspective. Decapitated, bored, and determined to discover the truth.

The final 10-15 made me anxious and my heart beat. Because Hitchcock built the suspense the whole movie and I was (as a viewer) waiting patiently the whole film for this moment. Was he falsely accused or did he kill his wife? What could happen to Lisa?! Etc.

The Lisa who you'd never think she would do anything was the most courageous! While Jeff the man who went to the jungles and mountains couldn't do anything!

In the beginning, his relationship with Lisa was not the greatest because he didn't want to get married, Later the relationship got better and they stayed together and built a stronger relationship due to their endeavor to catch the murderer.

Also, If you take a step back, it's all about relationships from the beginning. The murderer and his wife's relationship, the pianist, the dancer, Jeff and Lisa, the lonely lady. And you can see how everyone turned out at the end.

What a great experience!

Great experience (Visual and Sound)
3 March 2024
Great Movie!

Can't wait for the 3rd part, Im sure it will be filled with mind blowing visual and sound effects. Timothy really stood out to me, his composure at first and then the shift in his personality later on. He excelled in every scene.

Honestly, I feel like this part was very thorough and didn't leave any plot unexplained. Everything was clear and direct. Some slow parts but enjoyed it and didn't feel the time.

A thing I didn't like and like at the same it. The overuse of sound effects and score, i felt it throughout the movie. Dont get me wrong! Hans is a legend!! To show how much he is legendary, you can see how he could transform the movie like that into a masterpiece!!I I'm sure Dune wouldn't be the same without him, and that's what i don't like! I don't like that many scenes depended on it. Rather than depending on the shot and dialogue it self.

You can see from the last couple of years, the shift of film in having mind blowing Visual effects and Sound effects. Looks like this era of film will be like that. Not against it but something to note.

Amazing Chalamet, Vellaneuve and Hans!

Memento (2000)
7/10
unique
2 March 2024
I have to tell my opinion about Memento in two ways, cinematically and my own personal preference.

Cinematically, this is a work of art by Christopher Nolan. The way the movie is structured is very unique. You watch the movie in the perspective of the protagonist, and how he is viewing his life. I felt anxious, tense and confused with him. I felt manipulated, really wanted him to cure his condition so he can realize all he is going through! I was sad about him, wanting him to get revenge, yet i know something is not right which makes me as a viewer very anxious. Not from not knowing what going to happen, but generally from the idea that "his memory is very short" People lied to him, manipulated and used him to their own benefit, he looked naive and weak because of his memory loss yet very smart... He is so devastated that in the end even though for a minute he acknowledged that he might have really got revenge and something was wrong, yet he was willing to follow false clues and continue down this path of him seeking for revenge. The never ending loop he is in.

The idea of the story is very simple, yet Nolan and his brother portrayed it in a unique way .

However, Personally, I don't like to watch a movie where i'm confused and the plot is all over the place. That's just my point of view and preference. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the movie. I like straightforward movies. This is far from it. You're all around the place, present, future, past. All while i'm trying to process and understand the story.

Not my thing but Great movie!! Amazing style by Nolan.

Jake
29 February 2024
Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my favorite actors. Such extraordinary performance at 19 years old is something special.

However, I want to say that I enjoyed the movie but was very confused. Personally, i don't enjoy movies where I finish with confusion not knowing what's really the ending is all about. Sometimes there are movies where you are left hanging but add to that the confusion part in this movie. I don't like a movie where I have to read an explanation and theory after it finishes to understand the movie.

The story starts great, it sets the viewer in the mood perfectly. The lighting, color and score made me FEEL the movie. Dark and gloomy with great acting of Jake. The story starts very simplistically, a trouble minded kid who is having visions of a creature. Could be many thing. Throughout the movie I'm trying to piece together and understand his situation and what could be happening. Is it a mental disease? Is it Time travel really? What is it all about? What's up with the teacher (she seems to know something but the movie doesn't show her relation to the story). ? and Roberta sparrow? Is it a dream? Hallucinations?

I'm still not sure after finishing the movie! Very ambiguous! You can think of many conclusions which leave you wondering! If you are a fan of sci-fi mind twisting movies with philosophical/physical theory... yes! But personally I like a movie where in the end i'm satisfied. Not left hanging.

Well anyways, i don't want to say it's bad but the only thing I like is Jake's acting.

Masterpiece
28 February 2024
Masterpiece work of art > Plot, Acting, Directing, and Score.

Amazing plot, after you finish the movie it will leave you thinking for a minute and have an imprint on your mind. Absolutely mastermind of writing. Truly genius. Takes you into an emotional rollercoaster of grief, vengeance, agony, and all.

First, the amount of grudge Woo-Jin had that made him very patient to wait so long for his plot to be successful. As if this is the only way to make him die satisfied. He enjoyed the process and enjoyed the completion of his plan, then died happily (but sad at the same time).

The actors were amazing, i felt anxious throughout the movie and absolutely did not expect that ending. As I said, I stayed there for a while thinking. Also, I have to say the director was absolutely exceptional. Every single shot was a piece of art. Also, the scene where the past at presence were shot at the same time (at the school) was truly a work of art. Throughout the whole movie (as a cinematography fan), I was amazed by the shots and angles of the cinematographer.

Some say there are many unrealistic or extremist parts, yet if you see the whole picture the movie is amazing. The score makes you dive into that anxious and surreal mood.

Absolutely amazing what a masterpiece! You have to watch it and immerse yourself in such experience.

Amazing depictions.
23 December 2023
I watched this movie when it first released and I didn't enjoy it. Mainly because I knew nothing about Los Angeles, what happened in this period, Hollywood, and thought it was just a random story.

However, Im very wrong. I just watched again now that ive experienced LA and more knowledgeable. And enjoyed the hell out of it !! Really enjoyable story especially the different perspective/ending Tarantino had on this movie. I like the depiction of stars which give me a feel and insight into the 60's Era. The Mansons family + ranch, the movie sets, the super stars parties, etc. Even though aesthetically and visually i feel like it didn't capture the period very well (Like it didn't make be feel that i'm in the 60's) but the stories and scenes did.

Different from what really happened. Tarantino shows Sharon Tate as someone who had a very calm beautiful life and very innocent one. Nothing really happens to here in the entire movie, while chaos is across the street from here. All the action happened to Rick and Cliff and Sharon had the beautiful pink life...They had their careers fall apart, fought, cried, killed, while she is enjoying her innocent lovely life. Very different from what really happened.

Brad Pitt and Leonardo, extraordinary performance. Also the directing and cinematography, truly one of the greats making this movie. Some people are saying that there many unnecessary scenes in the movie Maybe, but to be honest, you're watching one of the greatest directors making his art... just enjoy it ! I wouldn't like a 30 min tarantino movie! Let the man do his magic.

masterpiece
18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say... just Perfect!

Enjoyed every aspect of this masterpiece by Bong Joon Ho. From the plot, directing, setting, cinematography, sound effects, and acting.

This movie is clear, engaging, and keeps you thinking of what could happen next. Which is not what you ever expected.

First, it starts out by laying out the foundation of the family, their financial situation and personalities. The apartment not even in ground floor. Later comes the Rock which is the curse and the blessing in my opinion. Gave them the opportunities and then chaos.

Second the parallel, the other family, a community and class very different than theirs. From being jobless to them all employed in this house. They are servants in a family that is a naive high class family who clearly due to their financial situation, are very very naive. However, due to the financial gain, they try desperately not to lose their jobs.

After that, their personalities change, especially as the father is disgusted by the upper class view and nativity. Every character at this point has his own views that changed. After that the hidden basement occurred and CHAOS!.

The story doesn't just keep you hanging, the ending is amazing too. The climax which gets out of control and then the family reunites in the same house.

Something I noticed which made me admire this movie is the directing and cinematography. Every single shot and angle is thought of, truly an art. All actors were exceptional. Especially the transform in their personalities. The music was astounding, it made me feel more engaged.

This movie is nothing short than a masterpiece. Truly enjoyable.

Iconic yet no story
14 December 2023
One of the most iconic classics of all time. The influence and effect it had on cinematography and culture is huge. Yet, not my favorite. Emphasized too much on the dialogue and the mixture of humor and violence, yet no story at all. Tell me what's the importance of this story? What's the big picture? What is the dialogue leading to? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and had fun watching the movie. The dialogue itself deserves the praise. Also, you have to consider the period it was aired. I admit It you can't a judge a movie by 2023 perspective.

Absolutely masterpiece of dialogue, the conversations, very entertaining, everything about the dialogue is exquisite. Yet.. it's only about that. A bunch of amazingly written scenes, don't get me wrong. But the story just doesn't go anywhere. I mean the big picture. There isn't a big picture. It's just fun scenes with fun talk. Samuel L. Jackson acting is extraordinary, he took the movie into another level. Also, a lot of unnecessary characters with little to no importance to the story in the end.

Maybe it just me, I like a movie when the story resonates with me. When the ending makes me sit there for a minute thinking. Where there is goal the actor/director is going to accomplish, not just a couple of scenes.

Amélie (2001)
7/10
Colorful and vibrant and charming!!!
12 December 2023
I have mixed feeling about Amelie. Stunning and exquisite cinematography, colors, clothing, environment, music, set, mood, everything about the movie. Except the plot/dialogue. Which bored me in the middle.

This movie took me into another world. The setting and environment , is something else. I feel like i want to experience it someday. In Paris, with the vibrant colors, clothes, cafe, the neighborhood. Also the little details in the movie. Enjoyed this aspect of the movie.

However, the story i didn't like. Except for the happy ending. The movie was scattered and random, you don't know where it's going to the point it feels like the story is pointless. A lot of unnecessary scenes and took a lot of random turns until you finally saw the big picture. She has something missing in her that she wanted to find, instead of helping others. Also a lot of contradictions, one time she's good one time she's revengeful another she's shy and another time she is not. Well, then she "a kind hearted introvert" wants to find love, she loves a person deeplu without knowing anything about him except that he works at a porn shop and does some nonsense (the picture booth). Sure. A lot of unrealistic stuff all around.

Anyways, i did enjoy the movie but enjoyed the picturesque aspect of it more than the story.

fun
4 December 2023
I sum up my opinion about the movie with, "Fun". Wes Anderson really is an impeccable artist. This is truly an art. The directing, clothing, colors, and every small detail. Truly amazing and fun. Great visually and a joy for the eyes to watch such movie.

I like and dislike how various superstars come and go in the movie. 8 don't like it cause i feel like you're putting too many superstars in just to force me to like the movie. As if the director is saying> The movie has Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Adrian brody, etc. How can you dislike it!!

What i didn't like that much was the plot. The story generally was good but silly and took a lot of turns left and right to get to the point which was unnecessary. How Zero got the hotel? Simple yet very complicated and too many things happened that wasn't unnecessary. I like the details but the details in the clothings/colors/furniture is enough for me the story shouldn't have to be that detailed.

Anyways, it was fun watching the movie.

Brilliant
2 December 2023
Didn't except it to be such a great movie. Loved the story and acting by Robert De Niro.

Even though it got a bit slow and repeated in the beginning but i liked how the director emphasized his troublesome personality. He had a lot of psychological issues and it was apparent. Pupkin had many issues in his childhood leading to him being overly obsessed on being under the spotlight. He literally felt that one day on the spotlight is worth his whole life. As if he achieved everything he wanted and he could die happily. From the stage he mimicked and the scenarios he made up in his mind, brilliant. The director showed us really the movie from two perspectives, Rupert with his psychological issues and everyone else.

Something to note, what I really liked is Rupert was never portrayed as a harmful person. Never was going to hurt anyone to get what he wants. Even with his fake gun. He was just persistent, and got what he wanted eventually.

Honestly, De Niro did a great job and he was the only one I think who I had any feeling towards (as an actor), other than him no one else really stood up.

Loved it!

Matthew and Jared are exquisite.
26 November 2023
Wonderful and heart warming performance by everyone. Ron with his impulsive/hard yet compassionate personality. Started with a selfish non caring personality, to someone who cares. He was a bull rider who feared nothing, and cared about nothing. Worked a hard job, has a dangerous hobby, and lived in a harsh environment. But HIV got him like a punch to the jaw, made him feel how fragile he is.

The story in itself was good, showing the greediness of the government system (FDA) and Doctors on both sides can play such a role.

Extraordinary performance by Matthew McConaughey. The actor I enjoyed the most was Jared Leto.

Honestly, it's pretty damn hard to act these two characters. There is a lot into it it you have to appreciate their work. I mean physically linguistically everything was impressive. They deserve a hundred more oscars. Quite frankly it's even disrespectful to review or rate their performance because of how amazing it was.

Great Visuals, random story.
26 November 2023
Great movie, yet very random movie. No purpose or premise to the story at all. Randomness scattered all around the movie. Enjoyed the creatures and the world. Entertained visually and had a fun watching it. However, a very random story.

Like, can you at least elaborate more on the relationship between the witch sisters? Chihiro's love relationship with Haku? The importance of No face.. he loved Chihiro but left her so fast to the Witch Sister? What's up with yabuba (more insight)?

Very random things happening throughout the movie until the end.

Enjoyed the animation and the visuals and music. Will definitely watch it again.

Eye opening story
26 November 2023
Enjoyed it a lot!

Not one of the best movies by Scorsese and Leonardo. But I certainly enjoyed it. Watched it two times and thought it was good but should have been a series rather than a movie. Why?

I think the story deserves much more. The atrocities native Americans endured was much deserved of a fully detailed explanatory series. Some points in the movie I think I needed more elaboration. Background about the issue and more insight. The movie has several slow parts here and there where it got a big boring but the story is generally good.

Nothing bad about the acting!! Except I feel like maybe the movie wasn't a role that Leonardo could get an Oscar in. I thought my favorite actor was definitely Robert De Niro, amazing performance couldn't have done better in my opinion. The downfall and his dignity even though he was a criminal he stood strong and felt no regret.

Also, Leo's character where he trusted and loved his uncle so much that until the end he didn't feel like his uncle was the criminal. Also, the loving wife who knew her husband was using her and led her through pain, but she loved him and saw good in his heart.

Honestly, the story was so good it should have been a series (longer). I want to see more insight into the Native Americans. What happened previously to the story and insight into what happened after. The story is so eye opening that I want to see more!!
