Prova d'orchestra (1978)
Intelligent, elegant, refined
A rare jewel in Fellini's filmography.
While the unchained genius who broke off with Neorealism to build up his own personal brand of art reaches such absolute heights of delirium as in "Satyricon", "Casanova" or "E la nave va", here he is grave, pondered, sober, using a very fine irony to cast on his message about human society.
One can relate this movie rather to "I Clowns", "Roma" and "Amarcord". Splendid in everything, and deeply permeated by the Great Federico's bright mind. Some people go even to declare it the best Fellini ever - and it wouldn't be too easy to contradict them!
Boogie (2008)
Only for educated audiences
I guess Radu Muntean was wrong by expecting his movie to have more appeal to the general audience than "Hartia va fi albastra". It's obviously too subtle and stylish. As one can easily notice, the uneducated spectators, brain-washed by the blockbusters, are simply unable to grok it.
Bogdan Ciocazan's struggle with the final good-bye to youth and ultimate step into maturity is convincing and full of feeling, and it really touches one's heart. What annoyed me for real were the reactions of the few baboons who left the theater, muttering about "hey, it ain't nuthin' but words 'ere, nuthin' does't 'appenin'!" Again, Tudor Lucaciu's cinematography is a perfect example of the new values reached by Romanian movie-making - but you need to have watched more than Nicolaescu and Dragan, shot by old-timers as Girardi, to fully appreciate a stylish photography.
As such, it's strongly recommended to see it - but, of course, only if you know what cinema is about. If not, no loss - "Poveste de cartier" is waiting for you, with its light-drowning images and hifi Dolby manele!

High Level Imposture
This guy has no idea of cinema. Okay, it seems he made a few interestig theater shows in his youth, and about two acceptable movies that had success more of political reasons cause they tricked the communist censorship. This all is very good, but look carefully: HE DOES NOT KNOW HIS JOB! The scenes are unbalanced, without proper start and and, with a disordered content and full of emptiness. He has nothing to say about the subject, so he over-licitates with violence, nakedness and gutter language. How is it possible to keep alive such a rotten corpse who never understood anything of cinematographic profession and art? Why don't they let him succumb in piece?
