Very good surprise...
6 November 2004
I'm a European who lives in the US, I've lived here for only 4 years, and so I tend to have little idea about what's going on when I watch football, but this movie never bored me for a single second. The acting is top notch for pretty much everybody (I was especially impressed with Tim McGraw, and of course Billy Bob Thornton, along with Derek Luke and Lucas Black) and it did a good job conveying the concepts of the movie. The story is much better then most other sports movies I've seen (Varsity Blues and Any given Sundays comes to mind here) because it followed an interesting path, despite being somewhat predictable, and it shows a much more realistic picture of what really goes on with these 17 years old athletes giving their best. Great motivational movie, and the footballs scenes are impressive and very nice to watch. Overall, I would give it an 8.3 out of 10, which is very good for a sprots movie in my book...

Heat's Director does it again...
7 August 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I went to this movie with not much expectation, and I didn't even know that it was Mann who directed it until the end. However, I found many similarities with heat, which in general is a very good thing looking how good Heat is. I will not spoil anything for anybody (I hope the Heat comparaison isn't a spoiler) but I can tell you that the movie is extremely well directed and acted. Cruise does a superbe job, he is convincing, shows little expression (which is what was needed for his role in my mind). Jamie Foxx was surprisingly good at his role, and the whole comedic aspect of him never showed (which is good, since it was not matching his role). The shooting of the movie is very well done, the motions are very well done, with enough diversity in the technics to keep the movie interesting (unlike Bourne Supremacy, which is also good but plagued by shooting problems).

Overall, I think it was without a doubt the best fiction film I've seen all summer, getting out of the theater, I was already wondering how long it would take for the DVD to come out :) 9/10!!!

Worth seeing, even if it isn't a cult movie
24 May 2003
This movie is a good way of killing time, it's decent, there is good actions scenes, and there is a few good driving scenes too. It doesn't live the expectations I had due to the fact that it was a Besson movie. I'd recommand Taxi 1 and 2 over this movie any day, but this is a good movie for when you don't want to have to think to much, and the story is of course lacking and simple, but keeps the movie together overall and so does the acting.

Nothing remarkable, but can't be qualified as bad, it deserves it's 6 on the IMDB rank, which is decent (since best movies get around 9 and great movies are around 8 or 7

Very good, but not the most original
30 March 2003
This movie, following the typical guideline and style of French drama, is the story of a single mother and her daughters, both piano players. I am not going to say anything about the story, since it would spoil it. The movie is good in most aspects, like acting, and ESPECIALLY the music scenes, if you are a classical music fan. The only main issue about this movie, is that it isn't exactly the most original story ever, I mean, there are many movies out there that have this kind of plot centered around the relations between a mother and her daughter. I would say however that it is still worth seeing, especially for the classical piano scenes, and the acting. (7/10)

A face off made with amazing intelligence...
24 September 2002
This movie is not just another of those good guys/bad guys movie like hollywood tends to overproduce, but rather a masterpiece of design and intelligence.

Every scene is worth seeing, there is no dead time, or no moment in which you wonder what you are doing sitting there wasting time watching a DVD when you could be doing something much more productive.

I am not gonna talk about the story, since it is really stupid to spoil it for you guys... All i can say is that, with a cast like this one, acting like they rarely acted in their career so far (except maybe for Natalie Portman), and the way every scene has been through about in depth to represent the atmosphere and the feelings of the characters, this movie is a must see for everybody above 15...
